Okay, time for some thoughts on all of the sets. Well, most of the sets. Let's start with the 13 regular sets.
While I think it's a good decision to have 5 small sets in the wave, I'm not impressed by most of them. Introducing Queen Whatevra Wa-Nabi and Unikitty's Sweetest Friends Ever are just not made for me, since they're collections of small, basic builds. I also have no idea why the Thricycle made it into a set, since it looks like it could easily fall over when let go of, and it doesn't look that good.
However, the Space Squad is a really nice tribute to Classic Space, looking exactly like a Classic Space set from old times, having a brand new pink astronaut, and looking quite decent. Battle-Ready Batman and Metalbeard also looks nice, mainly because of the new spider-like Metalbeard with a fairly cool design.
Speaking of Metalbeard, I love his Heavy Metal Motor Trike. Yes, the design looks crazy, but it looks like that in a really good way. It doesn't have the post-apocalyptic feel, but I never thought they would think of crossing the Metalbeard look with a huge trike, and really, it came off as a pleasant surprise to me.
One set that looks nothing like the others is the Dream House/Rescue Rocket, the only 2 in 1 set. The Dream House is a nice building that reminds me of an old Creator set, or a really old LEGO house, but I'm more of a fan of the Rescue Rocket. It's the Dream House, but it has lasers and rockets on it that make it a spaceship. I love it. To be honest, I wish there were more sets in this wave with multiple builds.
Now let's cover the vehicles for Rex Dangervest...oh dear, there aren't enough characters left for that. Well, I'm about halfway through the regular sets, and after that, I can cover some of the other sets that I consider to be bonuses. To be continued...
It would be a missed opportunity not to have Chris Pratt play a galaxy-saving dino trainer with the power to destroy anything built out of LEGO, especially since it made for some good sets. Both his Rex-treme Offroader and Rexplorer are basically big dark blue and lime green boxes, but it does fit him very well and works better than other sets with a boxy look. Also, the raptors stand out to me, not just because they're raptors with laser blasters, but because their colour schemes give them a very alien feel. The Plantimals also stand out a lot, and do make for nice brick-built creatures.
However, it'll be really disappointing if he doesn't get a giant T-Rex with laser blasters, especially since the name already has a pun. It'll also be disappointing if we don't get that giant spaceship we saw in the trailer that looks like a fist. Oh, and while it wouldn't be as disappointing if it was missed out on, he really should have devices called Rexplosives.
This wave could have done with more post-apocalyptic sets, but the ones we do get look great. I know a lot of people don't care for the Escape Buggy, but I actually think the design looks great, with a unique style that stands out, a good colour scheme, and plenty of detail. The Ultrakatty is also a really well done brick-built animal, as well as a good surprise for anyone that wanted a giant Angry Kitty. If there is a second wave, I really want to see more of the post-apocalyptic sets.
As divisive as the minidolls are, I also like the sets that they get, and hope to see more of them in the second wave. The Pop-Up Party Bus and the Systar Starship both look really sleek, having very well constructed builds, and actually having good colour schemes. The colour schemes in most minidoll sets look too messy and flashy for my taste, but the colours on these sets look much more appealing to me.
So, I've finally covered all of the regular sets, and I'm definitely impressed by most of them. However, there are still some other sets that I would like to cover. To be concluded...

Oh, Rex can destroy anything made of Lego bricks? I wasn't aware of this. I think Rex could change his allegiance or reveal being evil around the third act. He seems like the kind of character who would double-cross rather than remain amongst the good guys.

He's described as Master Breaker, and one of his abilities is a punch that can destroy LEGO constructs, which is used twice in the second trailer.
I really don't see Rex going evil. Remember, this movie is about the conflict between Finn and his sister, and Rex is most likely a character Finn created after he grew into a teenager. Why would he have his own secret agenda?
When I first saw the Build and Fix Workshop, I actually didn't notice the 4+ branding and thought it was one of the regular sets. It turns out LEGO decided to cancel the Juniors theme in favour of having these 4+ sets released as part of already-existing themes. The set itself looks quite nice, especially the classic spaceship, since classic spaceships are very simple builds, so they work for sets like these that have simple builds.
The Build Whatever Box, which has a really funny name, seems to be meant for building all of the different forms that Queen Whatevra Wa-Nabi takes throughout the movie. It's a Classic-style box of bricks with a lot of nice brightly coloured pieces and builds that look simple, but quite good. However, I will be disappointed if it doesn't let you build that tentacled monster from the second trailer.
I don't mind the other builder boxes, but they really don't look that good. They don't have a lot of pieces, and the builds themselves aren't that interesting. I like the idea, but the execution doesn't impress me.
So, those were my thoughts on the sets for The LEGO Movie 2...until the upcoming Direct to Consumer set gets revealed. Just focusing on the 13 regular sets, I can say they're incredibly varied and complex, just like the sets for the 3 movies before it. It was definitely a good choice to have 5 small sets, and not completely bombard us with a lot of huge and expensive sets, which will probably help the sales of these sets a lot. Overall, these LEGO Movie sets still don't disappoint and continue to be impressive.

Maybe after they defeat the DUPLOs, he will reveal himself as a villain just because Finn wants to have some fun.

I hope not. Rex and the Rex-themed sets are the only thing that I really find cool about the movie and its theme so far.
Wow, I am incredibly late for this. Sorry for not covering this earlier, but I now want to share my thoughts on the new Apocalypseburg set.
I'll be honest, I had no interest in a set based on Apocalypseburg. While I have begun to appreciate the post-apocalyptic genre because of this movie and Ninjago, I wasn't interested in a Direct to Consumer set with it. However, this set looks amazing. It pulls off the apocalyptic feel so well with the dirty and messy city, and a perfectly built Statue of Liberty. This combined with the level of detail makes the set look great.
What does everyone think of the new 3 sets that have just had pictures released?
*SPOILER*
triple decker mech couch, shimmer and shine sparkle spa and queen whateveras not so evil space palace
*SPOILER END*
I kinda think it's a bit edgy that lego are doing another couch, just saying its a 'triple decker' one, but the mech alternate build looks okay, i think it's a bit too wide and wiry though.
The next 2 look top notch, theyre pieces of art really and the curves and pieces use look awesome. Some of the arches, especially on that spa one look pretty damn good and the tons and tons of the nexonight shields will make them so much cheaper on bricklink and easy to obtain, yet idek the purpose of a spa, xD? Has it got something to do with the next set? The space palace really does look like a palace, kinda feels like itd be in like a modern atlantis, the white balloon pieces from the friend set, the light transblue semidomes and the gold bendy tube things just give off them kinda vibes. I get that this is in space but i think itd be so so SO much cooler if it was in like some kinda underwater alien planet or something like that (It kinda looks like wavy seaweed or coral, too). I really want to get 2 of this one, one for the amazing pieces and another to display, xD
In conclusion theyre pretty decent sets, ofc lego has to do a smaller one but its a bit sad they did a repeat. Other than that it is gonna be a small wave worth getting!
