They walked hesitantly into the backstage area, where over a dozen people were bustling about; actors dressed up and stagehands exchanging brusque orders and instructions, with assistants hovering by to held put a wig on or correct the position of a prop. A few colorful lanterns hanging overhead provided light for the otherwise wide dark room. "Ah-ha, there you are!" A frazzled-looking woman suddenly appeared before the two teens, gasping quickly for breath. She looked at Joy as she asked swiftly, "You are Beatrice, right?" "I--" "Right this way--and hurry! Don't you know? It's about to start!" She grabs Joy's arm and begins to drag her away, but not before pausing and casting a look at Temptation to say: "What are you waiting for? Get to your station! And remember; you come out when she says '--A beautiful fantasy, forsooth'. Pay attention and don't get distracted by random moths flying into candles this time." Then she and Joy were gone. Temptation has no idea where his "station" was. Fortunately, an impatient stagehand does, and when he sees one of the actors standing there like a lump, he races over and drags the young man over to one side of the stage, between two heavy curtains. Temptation finds himself standing between a painted tree and a cardboard shrub. Bewildered, confused, and feeling desperate, he has no choice but to wait and wonder in silent agony. The lights go out. The chatter and bustle falls silent. Then-- happy music plays from beyond the curtain, where Temptation assumes a band is playing at the foot of the stage and the audience is watching. His stomach churns at the thought of having to face so many people at once. I have no idea what to do! Then, the play starts. He sees people talking to each other, in such an old-fashioned way that it's impossible to understand. The first two characters talk for a while, then they walk away and the lights dim. The scene changes to that of a balcony overlooking a garden, taking place at night. Two more actors appear on the balcony: one is the older man from the first scene, and the other is Joy. The older man tells her that she is betrothed to his friend. Joy--her character--protests.

Joy and Temptation eventually get to the backstage of the theater. It was full of actors getting ready for their next showing, and no one really questioned Joy and Temptation's presence passing through the backstage. They eventually reached a room labeled "Costumes".
"Well, this looks like the right place." Joy said as she went inside and closed the door behind them.
The costume room was like a gigantic closet filled with costumes of many different colors and styles on the left and right sides of the room. There were suits, dresses, sets of armor, and fake weapons all around them. There was a makeup station towards the back and a few changing rooms as well. They were alone luckily, but they soon realized finding a fake beard in this room would take a long time.
"I'll look on the right side, you look on the left side." Tempation said to Joy as she agreed. They searched each costume looking for a fake beard.
Temptation had looked through a few costumes, when suddenly he heard a large shouting voice from the backstage door. Joy and Temptation were shocked.
"Where are those actors?!?!" A man shouted with a thick accent as he opened the door to see Joy and Temptation looking through costumes. They didn't have time to hide. "You and you, get into your positions! The next show is starting, our main actor and actress have disappeared, and so have the backups! Get going!" He shouted and pointed to the stage.
As Joy and Temptation followed his orders and walked toward the stage, Temptation muttered to Joy "How am I supposed to wing this?!? I've never done any acting before and now we're stuck in this play!"
"Um...." Joy muttered back, "Just follow my lead."
"Do you even know what the play is about?" Temptation asks.
"Not quite, but from the talk I've heard about it, it seems to be about a guy who wants to confess his love and feelings to a girl, but he's shy and scared." Joy replies.
Temptation felt even more nervous. The guy part he would be playing fits him almost perfectly, as... well... he did have some feelings.
Temptation had no choice but to just go with it. "Sigh... I feel like a late-night writer just writing whatever comes to mind and hoping it works."
Oh my goodness!! They have to be in the play! Yes! This is amazing!
And the parts they are playing, YES!
@bold That's relatable.
I'm so happy you like it NFM!
Lol, that part was fun to write.
Hehe, that was basically me when I wrote that part.

* is reminded of when I used to act and help out in mini dramas and musicals * So many memories, most are very good, some not so much. There's always that horribly wonderful excitement before it starts though. Love it! Can't wait to see how this going to go.
"I can't marry him! All he wants from marrying me is just my wealth!" Joy says in her character. "No! I've made my decision, and that is final!" The older man says as he leaves the scene.
Temptation takes a peak out on the stage to see Joy in a beautiful dress crying on the balcony, and the audience felt her emotion. He had never seen Joy like that before. In his mind, he thought How did she change into a dress so quickly? How is she so good at acting? And how have the directors noticed we're not the real actors?
Joy continues, "I wish I could meet him, my one true prince. That would make a beautiful fantasy, forsooth."
Temptation wonders at Joy's brilliance, until he gets violently poked in the back by the director. "That's your cue! Ugh, he must've been looking at the moths again."
Temptation rushes on stage. His focus was initially on Joy, but he turned his head toward the audience and gallons of sweat fell from his back. His teeth chattered silently unsure of what to say. Ok, I just need to say what's in my heart, right? Is that part of the script? I just have to go with it! He walks toward the balcony and begins his part.
"Hi." Temptation says. "Oh, you're here!" Joy replies in character as she wipes a few tears. "It's been a while." "What's wrong?" "I'm betrothed to another man, but all he wants is my wealth. I wish there was someone who would truly love me for who I am."
Now was Temptation's moment. "I have something to tell you." Temptation says. "What is it?" Joy asks.
"I.... truly love you, and not because of what you have, but for who you are. You brighten my darkest days, and opened my eyes to things I never thought I'd see."
The audience says some "Aww"s.
Temptation continues, "You gave me a chance when I didn't deserve it, and you've shared your happiness with me. When I say, "I love you", it's not just an emotion, it's a promise. To me, you are my love, and you are... my joy."
All Temptation could think was, Did I just say that? I guess that's how I really feel about her.
The directors frantically scrolled through their scripts, unsure of the slight inaccuracies, but amazed by the audience's suspense.
