The crowd of soldiers eventually reached a nearby village where everyone was cheering for their win against Lord Fear, except for Joy and her parents, still worried about Luke's condition.
As Joy reached the entrance of the village, she looked closely and recognized it immediately. It was the first village Joy and Temptation had spent their first time together.
While everyone celebrated in the village with fizzy drinks, Joy assisted in finding a place for Luke to try to rest and recover. Most of the nearby clinics were already full with other wounded soldiers or previous patients. She sighed, and began to cry.
"At this rate, Luke will never recover."
Suddenly she heard a slightly familiar voice.
"We have space available." Someone said. Joy turned around and saw the innkeeper from before, the same woman who gave them a room the first time they entered the village many days ago.
"Thank you." Joy replied with a slight smile. Joy, her parents, and the soldiers carrying Temptation's body brought Temptation to the exact same room they rested in, the same room where Joy and Temptation began to know each other. They laid Temptation's body on the bed and the innkeeper assisted in making him comfortable.
"I'm gonna go for a walk." She said to her parents. She left the inn and began strolling around the village. It all felt more like a flashback than a walk as she remembered everything, both the best and the worst. The first restaurant they ate at, Merryleaf's Sandwich Festival.
She stood in the marketplace plaza where Merryleaf's Sandwich Festival took place and remembered the dozens of stalls and smells of sandwiches, but she only imagined the time that Luke held her in his arms when she lost her strength to a cursed chocolate chip cookie. It all felt so strange and so long ago since that event.
She returned back to the inn where an unconscious Temptation laid. Everyone else had left and so it was just the two of them. She pulled up a chair and sat right alongside the bed.
"Thank you, Luke." She says to her as she grabs his hand tightly. "Thank you for being there for me every step of the way. I wish we could be together again."
