Temptation stiffens. "Umm. . . all right." He manages to speak somewhat casually, despite the sound of blood pounding in his ears from his racing pulse. "What is it?"
Finally get around to reading this and stops procrastinating. XD This is epic. I actually really liked the different formatting, it reminded me a bit of poetry and prose. I also thought it was funny that LordTigress was playing Luke and Zach (I'm sorry I still can't pronounce your name (..) ) is playing Joy. All in all the story has delightful lighthearted princess bride type feel, while still smacking of a deeper pilgrim's progress thing underlying. I also love how it's got a fresh feel to it with the mix of hooded cloaks, bridge monsters and then burgers and cookies. Very awesome guys!
Thank you so much, Essa! This is really fun to write with Zach (yeah I can't pronounce it either, I'm just calling him Zach ), and it's cool that people enjoy reading this! I thought that was kind of funny, too; older-boy-writer writes younger girl character, younger-girl-writer writes older boy character. Thanks again!
Y'all deserve it! : D I bet it is. (Glad I'm not alone XD) : D Lol, yep. A complete reversal of roles. Though it proves you guys have talent to pull it off.

Yeah, what took you so long?
Wow, nice to see you too. My tiny life manages to be problematic. I only get an hour or so on here usually and there are a lot of notifications to answer.
"It's a bit of a personal question, but... tell me about yourself. Where are you originally from, or have you lived here your whole life?" Joy asks with a tiny smile.

Yayyy, I'm glad to know I can write a decent guy character!
For several moments Temptation doesn't answer. He glances furtively up and down the bustling cobblestone street crowded with chattering villagers. Joy, wondering if he's trying to ignore her, is about to press him to reply, but he finally does. "I don't come from here, but I've been in this area for several years." He speaks in a low voice, though not low enough that she can't hear him. They walk together down the street, passing horse-drawn carts and farmers lugging baskets of their crops. "I was. . . sent here by my uncle, to do a job for him. He wants me to--" He hesitates. "--To look after the woods you found me in. Like a ranger. He's a lord in charge of a lot of districts and land in this part of the country. It's up to me to. . . to protect the people here." The word protect feels bitter and burning on his tongue. . . not all of what he said was true.

"Ah, I see, Luke." Joy replies. She had been thinking a lot about Luke within the time that they've been together, including when they first met with the maggot-infested cookies, the hike through Froggy Leg Swamp, Jerry the tentacle creature thing, and burgers at the restaurant. She continued to ponder to herself, Who is this Luke person? Why do I feel like there's more to him than it seems? Is he really who I think he is? She decides to ask another question.
"What were you protecting the people from?" She asks curiously. While she says that, her hand slowly reaches for her short-sword.

OH SNAP TEMMY SHE'S GOT A KNIFE O.O
"From. . ." His mind races. "Possible enemies from the neighboring kingdoms. Bandits. Raiders. And that guy-- uh, that mysterious phantom those three men were talking about earlier; Temptation." He hopes that by casually bringing up this "Temptation" like something he's only heard of, he'll draw whatever suspicion Joy might have away from him. He doesn't see his companion fingering her short-sword in its sheathe.

Always a pleasure, m'lady. That sounds oddly familiar... Once upon a time I dealt with that too...it's rough.
"Ah, that makes sense, especially that Temptation guy. He does seem scary." Joy replied. She begins to grasp the handle of her sword and slowly slide it out of the sheathe just a bit. She refocuses her eyes ahead of her, seeing the crowded village street full of people. She takes a quick look behind both of them. While she had questions on who this Luke guy was, she was also wondering if they had been followed the whole time.
"Heh, yeah. . ." Temptation chuckles uneasily. ". . . Scary." As Temptation and Joy continue walking down the street, a figure from the crowd spots them. A man, middle-aged with a short brown beard and sharp gray eyes stiffens upon the sight of a familiar black-and-gray-colored cloak and cowl accompanying what looks to be a young, fair lady. The stranger's eyes widen upon recognition of the dark, tall figure. He ducks behind a fruit stand and throws his plain brown hood over his head, keeping his eyes upon the couple, especially the youth with his face covered. The man wonders if he still has cookies within the folds of his dark, faded robe. It is the "hero" who refused Temptation's offer of chocolate chip cookies earlier that very day.
With every movement that the couple made, the "hero" was just a couple steps behind. Every time the young girl of the couple turned around, he pretended to look occupied with something else. He was determined to get those cookies.
"I should've accepted them when he first asked." He said quietly to himself. "If only I knew about them earlier, I could've taken those cookies and put this myth to rest."
The "hero" had a simple plan on trying to get those cookies, if the cloaked man still had them.

Temptation catches Joy's suspicious glances into the crowd. "What's the matter?" He asks. "I don't know," She murmurs in reply, still looking over her shoulder. "I just. . . keep feeling like we're being watched." Temptation glances uneasily behind him. He wonders of those men in the restaurant were tailing him and Joy -- but, no, that's ridiculous. Stop being paranoid,He thinks to himself. No one here knows who you are. However, the truth was, he knew, that the paranoid people are typically the ones who live longer. The "hero" keeps up with his prey's pace in the crowd, being discreet enough to duck behind a wagon, a stand, a horse, or whatever was out there whenever he could. Brown hood down, he blends in easily with the bustling crowd.
