The first man grunts. "Well, thought we oughta warn you two, anyway." He continues in a friendlier tone, leaning against a nearby chair with one hand. "Y'all look like you've come a long way. Where you off to?" Please leave. Temptation's mouth feels dry. His heart his pounding uncontrollably in his chest, and he even feels a little light-headed. What if Joy's figured out what he is by now? Will she reveal him? What will he do if she does? Just leave. Leave, leave, leave, you country pea-brains. He wants to shout at the men trying to make small-talk. Just leave us alone, please! Yet he remains silent and focuses on chewing his burger -- even though by this time he's completely lost his appetite. "Oh, nowhere in particular," Joy replies lightly. She shows no sign of suspicion at Temptation -- whether that was good or not, he couldn't tell. She glances at her companion across the table. "I'm just traveling with my. . ."

Joy realized she had to say something about her relationship with Temptation, or Luke as she knew him. They had just met, so that could mean acquaintances, but they've also learned a lot about each other, so they could be friends. She looked at temptation and she could tell he was nervous, remembering that he wasn't very comfortable around people in the village.
"...friend... Anyway, sorry to cut this short, but we have something else I need to do."
"Ok. Thanks for talking with us." The first guy says on behalf of the group, and they head back to their table.
Temptation felt relieved that they finally stopped talking, although he wasn't exactly looking forward to knowing if Joy figured it out.
Joy then looks toward the waitress who served their food. "Check please." The waiter grabs their check and gives it to them. Joy pulls out her bag and looks for some coins to pay it with.

...Father.
*laughs super-hard IRL* Temptation may not appreciate that.
Finally get around to reading this and stops procrastinating. XD This is epic. I actually really liked the different formatting, it reminded me a bit of poetry and prose. I also thought it was funny that LordTigress was playing Luke and Zach (I'm sorry I still can't pronounce your name (..) ) is playing Joy. All in all the story has delightful lighthearted princess bride type feel, while still smacking of a deeper pilgrim's progress thing underlying. I also love how it's got a fresh feel to it with the mix of hooded cloaks, bridge monsters and then burgers and cookies. Very awesome guys!

Joy continues to look through her bag. She responded, "Yes, I should have some coins. Ah, there we go." She pulls out a pouch with some coins in it and counts them.
"I think that should be enough. I'll pay for both of our meals. Don't worry about paying me back. This one is on me." She replies.

Thank you so much Essa!! Tigress and I had a lot of fun writing this story. It is quite funny how we are writing the characters of the other gender.
It does have that randomness in it while keeping with the fantasy-medieval-era theme. Thanks again!

Thank you so much, Essa! This is really fun to write with Zach (yeah I can't pronounce it either, I'm just calling him Zach ), and it's cool that people enjoy reading this! I thought that was kind of funny, too; older-boy-writer writes younger girl character, younger-girl-writer writes older boy character. Thanks again!
Joy pays the waitress, and the two of them leave the restaurant, now full and somewhat rested. Temptation, more out of habit than of necessity, pulls his cowl closer about his head as they step outside onto the street in the noonday sunlight, retreating from the warmth like a vampire. Now that they were by themselves in the village streets, away from prying ears, would Joy confront him? Did she figure it out? Does she remember the cookie I nearly gave her? It'd take a rather shrewd person to connect the dots -- but then, Joy didn't exactly strike Temptation as stupid. He doesn't know whether to awkwardly bring up the subject of the men's warning or to bring the attention of his friend to something else in order to distract her -- such as the colorful decorations and bustling preparations the villagers were putting up presently in cheerful chatter and noise up and down the cobblestone street. "The burgers were good." He finally mutters.

"Yes, I agree. Those burgers were delicious." Joy replies. Temptation lets out a small sigh, thinking the coast was clear.
Joy continues, "Hey Luke... there's something curious I wanted to ask you about." Temptation feels all of the nervous, stomach kicking emotions all over again.
