"Got it. I can do it." Joy replied. "Oh, and make sure you have your disguise so you blend in." Temptation reminded.
"Let's do this."
Both of them approached a nearby gate from the driveway. One of the gates had a lantern on it that Joy picked up with her to use as her torch for the fire.
Joy and Temptation split up going to their own missions with their disguises on. Temptation entered one of the side doors of the estate, while Joy headed toward the rear where there was a large field, as well as a barn.
Joy approached the barn as quietly as she could, and there was no one outside the barn, so it was easy for her to approach. As she got closer and closer to the barn, it got noisier and noisier, and it was very annoying. "What are those sounds in the barn?"
She opened up the barn door, expecting to find some crying horses, but she was very surprised.
"Where are the horses? And why are there so many chickens are in here?" The barn was converted from a horse stable into a massive multilayered chicken coop. There were shelves of chickens and nests on both sides of the barn. Each nest contained a chicken just bopping its head or eating off of the trough.
"Look at all those chickens. There must be like, 500 chickens here." She looked to the right where she found crates of eggs and realized she was in the chicken barn that supplies the eggs for the cookies.
"I was hoping to be rescuing horses before I had to burn this place down, but I'll be saving the chickens instead." She thought of her plan very carefully. Instead of freeing the chickens from the door she came through, she decided to free the chickens from the door on the other side, which was facing away from Lord Fear's estate and couldn't be seen.
She shifted her feet through the floor of roaming chickens, while sometimes being pecked on the hood by chickens on the shelves. She reached the rear door and opened it wide.
"Be free!" She said to the chickens, but the chickens didn't understand. "Bok bok bok." She said as she pretended to be a chicken leaving the barn, but the chickens still didn't understand. "Ugh, fine." She got some chicken feed and spread it outside, and the chickens began to follow.
Chickens is stupid. XDD But this is incredible. Wow 500 chickens.... XD Very well done Zach!!
Lol. This was a funny chapter to write. Thanks Essa!
Temptation and Joy walked the hopeless prisoners, or Joy’s parents out of their cells, but they didn’t go toward the exit, and a nearby guard was curious.
“The exit is this way?” The guard said suspiciously. “The prisoners said they had to use the toilet.” Temptation, replied quickly. Mr. Peace was about to say something, but Temptation covered his mouth and whispered in his ear, “Just follow my lead.” “Oh, ok.” Mr. Peace whispered back.
Temptation, Joy, and both of her parents entered the nearest bathroom. They closed the door behind them and propped the trash barrel under the door handle. Then they undid Mr. Peace and Ms. Love’s shackles.
“Ok, what’s all this about?” Mr. Peace asked. “Mom, Dad, it’s me.” Joy replied as pulled off her hood and her beard. Tears were streaming down her face.
“Joy! We’ve missed you!” Ms. Love said as she embraced her daughter in a tight hug. “Come here, my joyful Joy!” Mr. Peace joined into the hug. Temptation stood there, with some tears from his face. He hadn’t seen love like that for a very long time.
“Who are you?” Mr. Peace and Ms. Love turned to Temptation with a puzzled look on their face. Temptation stepped back a bit, nervous to talk, but Joy broke away from the group hug and grabbed his hand to bring him closer.
“Mom, Dad, this is Temptation. He used to work for Lord Fear, but he’s changed and he helped bring me all this way to find you.” Joy replied as Temptation nervously took off his beard and hood. A small but nervous smile was across his face, unknowing of what to think.
Mr. Peace went up to him and gave him a handshake. “Thank you.” He replied, but there was a long pause before Temptation could respond.
“I don’t understand why you’re thanking me. All I’ve done was evil. I made those cookies, and brought those slaves here.”
“I understand. That was you before, but now you opened your eyes and saw the light. You may be Temptation, the spirit of desire, but now you know how to desire what’s right and what’s good. Keep it up, I’m proud of you.” Mr. Peace said encouragingly.
Temptation began to cry. No one has ever told him a kind word like that in a long time.
I have a very special announcement to make. Today is the one year anniversary of Tales of Desires!
But wait a second, some of you are probably wondering why the topic creation date says "July 12, 2018". Well, allow me to share with you...
The adventure that started this adventure.
Once upon a May 26th, 2018, LordTigress and I were on Finding Friendships randomly talking about homeschoolers, and video games, and LEGO themes. We then got into a discussion where we picked sides of homeschoolers vs. hackers just as an idea to randomly roleplay with. Tigress picked the homeschooled team and she thought I would be on the homeschooled team as well, but I told her that I'd probably be on the hackers team since I'm studying computers and that I've never been homeschooled.
Tigress was surprised by my sneaky and traitorous act and she commented "DOUBLE-CROSSER!" I replied with "For me, it's treason then." Tigress commented "And I trusted you..."
And then I replied "Indeed you did. Darkness is very good at being invisible." And Tigress replied "It blends in the shadows, still and silent. . ."
And from then on, we just added more to that story in our conversations, starting with a simple poisoned cookie giver named Temptation and meeting Joy. Eventually, other users began to notice our story in FF, so we decided to move our story into its own topic and called it "Tales of Desires".
Tigress and I are continuously surprised by how this story started, how much depth it has, and of course, how much you guys love it. We thank you all of you for reading, whether you've seen its beginnings in FF or whether you found this story on its own, and we thank you for all of the fun replies and comments on our story parts that made you smile, laugh, cry, shocked, or made you sit on the edge of your seat. This story has been the highlight of our year, and we're so happy you can be a part of it!
Now to celebrate, who wants cookies?
Whoa! Awesome! I didn't know about the first part of the story.
Well happy ( late ) anniversary of Tales of Desires!
He felt a hot flush of humiliation as he lost control of himself before these people, but he couldn't stop the flow of tears, no matter how hard he tried. Abruptly, he felt arms circle around him in a tight, almost-desperate hug. Joy's voice murmured soothingly by his ear, "Shh. . . sh-sh, it's all right. It's all right now, Luke." Grateful, buried his face into her shoulder to hide his face, despite being nearly a head taller than she was. He hugged her in return; a brief, tight squeeze before letting go. He didn't want to completely lose control of himself now--not when there was so much at stake. Inside, he felt shaken with emotion, but he gritted his teeth and raised his head. Joy was looking up at him with a loving expression of concern. Ms. Love looked a little mystified by the close relationship her daughter so obviously had with this young man, but seemed willing to accept it. Mr. Peace, unironically, was obviously at peace with it, judging by the kind smile on his face. Perhaps the adults could discern the underlying emotion turmoiling beneath the scars of the pale young man standing before them. "Thanks," he murmured to Joy, sharing a look with her. She smiled warmly in return. "What're friends for?" 'Friends'. . . Temptation mentally shook himself as he brought his mind back to the situation at hand. "All right. . . I think I know how to get you two out of here," he addressed Joy's parents. "You'll have to keep up the prisoner act, with Joy as your 'guard'. See those trees?" He gestured to a small window at the wall of the bathroom that allowed air in, revealing the dark forest that surrounded the estate a few hundred yards around. "If you all run southwest, I'm pretty sure you'll find the main river that leads to the nearest village. If you hurry, nobody will notice your disappearance until you're in the village. Right now, nobody here knows we've infiltrated this base." "What's all this 'you' stuff?" Joy asked with a note of worry. "Aren't you coming with us?" Temptation shook his head. "Someone's got to get to the alchemy laboratory to mix the antidote in that poison. I've got to stay here and undo the damage I've done."
"Are you sure?" Joy asked. "Yes, I'm sure. Once we leave, we'll split off." Temptation replied, but he noticed Joy's look wasn't exactly approving. "What is it?"
"I ... I ... " She stuttered for a moment while Mr. Peace and Ms. Love looked at each other a little puzzled.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. "OPEN UP! WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?" A guard at the other side of the door screamed. Temptation, in preparation for anyone getting in, put his hood and beard back on and yelled at the door, "Uh... The prisoners got a bad stomachache."
"Well hurry up and finish. I gotta go too!" The guard replied back.
Temptation turned to Joy and her parents. "We don't have time." He said as he passed Joy her beard. "Let's go". They got into their roles of being the guards of Joy's parents and opened the bathroom door.
The guard who was outside rushed in, frantically shoved the group out, and closed the door. A disguised Temptation and Joy led Joy's parents out of the prison hallways and back outside. The guard at the door eyed each of them as they walked out, but never questioned them. Eventually, they traveled far enough to where they couldn't be seen, and they removed their disguises.
"It's clear. The river should be in that direction." He said as he pointed. "I'm going to go and fix all of this. I'll see all of you tomorrow when everything is done." Temptation said as he was just about to run back, but Joy grabbed his arm before he could run.
"Wait, I just... I ..." Joy stuttered again. She took a few seconds to think, and decided. She opened her cloak, reached for her shortsword and gave it to Temptation. "Take this. You're going to need it."
"Thanks Joy. I promise I'll fix all of this." He took the shortsword, gave her one last hug, smiled at her parents, turned around, and ran back to the estate.
Joy looked at a disappearing Temptation in the distance, with tears in her eyes. She tried to hide them, but she couldn't hide them from her parents. "You love that boy, don't you?" Ms. Love asked. "Yes, yes I do. I may not know him completely, but I'm already scared of losing him." Joy said. "Then go with him. You both got this." said Mr. Peace with a smile.
Joy hesitated, unsure for a moment about leaving her parents to fend for themselves. At her father's encouraging smile, however, her eyes brightened with confidence, and she raced after Temptation. Temptation tensed and grabbed his sword when he heard footsteps coming up behind him. He whirled around, but found only Joy running toward him. Perplexed, he exclaimed, "I thought you were going with your parents!" "They'll be fine. I'm not leaving you to do this by yourself," she responded, catching up with him. She looked up at him and said firmly, "We're doing this together, Luke." Temptation hesitated at the thought of putting Joy in danger. "Trust me." She smiled. He took a deep breath and nodded. "All right." With that, he gripped the hilt of his sword and continued on through the trees toward the estate. She followed him closely, taking care to step softly on the ground. "You being here might makes things easier, actually," he said. "I wasn't sure how to get the alchemists out of the laboratory without drawing attention to myself. . . but with you, you could help me distract everyone." He hesitated again. "Go on," Joy pressed encouragingly. Slowly, he suggested, "I'm pretty sure I can get rid of anyone in the laboratory by myself pretty easily. But, I'm not sure I can do it without someone calling the alarm and getting caught. What we need is a distraction--a big one." He glanced at her. She caught the wary look in his expression. "Whatever it is, I can handle it." "Your dad'll probably beat me senseless if you get hurt. . ." Temptation muttered with a grim look. She ignored the comment with a grin. "Just tell me what it is." "I was thinking of setting something on fire. Like the barn, where there's lots of nice, flammable hay." Her gaze sharpened. "What about--?" "You'll have to free the horses before then. I wasn't going to tell you to leave them in there when it burned," he added wryly at her expression of relief. "You'll probably be able to grab a torch from one of the walkways or entrances," he instructed hurriedly as they neared the edge of the estate. "Do it as quickly and quietly as possible."
Ah yes good plan, free the horses, burn the barn that probably took awhile to build and stop Lord Fear's evil plan. ( I'm glad they thought of the horses. :3 )
"Got it. I can do it." Joy replied. "Oh, and make sure you have your disguise so you blend in." Temptation reminded.
"Let's do this."

Chickens! XD Yeah they only understand food mostly.

(I figured this is like my way of making up for what I did to some of the horses in Runaway. )
