This is a Ninjago parody of The Little Mermaid! Enjoy~
Prologue
Deep, deep down, deep within the waters of Ninjago, lived a city full of mermaids. It was called Mimizu City, and beautiful merfolk resided within the coral and seaweed. One day, Libber, the kind and beautiful social butterfly of a queen, met a handsome and charming performer named Cliff, and after a few meet-ups, they married and Libber became pregnant. But she became very sick during her childbirth, and though Cliff tried to save her, she departed days later, and their baby boy, Jayson, was left without a mother.
Cliff was devastated that he had lost his queen, and because Jay had her blue eyes, he couldn't even look at him without breaking down. So he sent his tiny son to a poor woman who yearned for a child, and from then on, little Jay grew up.
As Jay grew from an infant to a teen, Edna told him stories of the humans that resided in Ninjago Island up above. When he turned fifteen, she told him he could finally make his way up to the surface.
"Mom, I have a question," he said. "You know, before I go."
"What is it?" Edna looked at him. "What do you need to know?"
"How am I gonna breathe up there? I mean, I know people used to put bubbles in their mouths, but-"
"Use your lungs, sweetie," the middle-aged lady replied, adjusting her...sea-glasses.
Jay was practically a blue screen of death, his mouth half-open and eyes wide. Then he raised an eyebrow. "Do merfolk even HAVE lungs?"
Edna looked impatient. "Just go."
So Jay swam up. He swam up and up and up. He swam until he bumped into something. Something small, round and with a Bob of straight blonde hair. A voice came out of the object, raspy, boyish, and cross. "Ouch! Not in the stomach, you dweeb!"
Jay yelped and descended a bit, looking up into a pair of bright green eyes. "Lloyd? What the heck?"
Lloyd pouted. "I don't want you to go up, Jay." The little fish crossed his arms, looking cute rather than genuinely angry.
"Why not? You don't like fresh air?"
"No, there are humans up there! If you end up getting their cooties, I'll go ballistic!"
Jay raised an eyebrow, the one scarred from a coral accident. "Cooties?"
"You know, like girls have cooties! The things, and they're contagious and-" The kid flailed his arms dramatically.
Jay tilted his head like a bamboozled puppy. "I...don't get you. Like, at all."
"I just don't like humans! They don't even have tails! They have those two weird things they move separately and they wear land materials to cover their bodies and they're just weird!" He shivered. "I don't like them. Especially the girls and grown-ups."
"Okay, but I just wanna look to see if you're right," Jay replied. "I mean, maybe they're kinda weird but they could be fascinating, you know what I mean? I mean, they breathe without gills, walk on land ,breathe that light and fluffy stuff that's not water, and I heard they're really hot, so-"
"You talk too much," Lloyd said emotionlessly. "And humans are ugly and sing bad."
"Come on, kid." The teen grinned and pushed Lloyd's chin up slightly. "Stop being so negative. Can't you buck up a bit, buttercup?"
"What's a buttercup?" Lloyd tilted his head.
"I don't know! Anyways, you won't tell Cole if I like this, will you?" Jay looked him straight in the eye.
Lloyd tried to glare at him, but he looked like a pouty baby. When Jay didn't flinch, he growled. "Fine. But only if you don't go all sissy on me and fall in love. Blech." He stuck out his tongue in mock disgust.
"Fine, I won't. *you'renofun*" He pouted, then grinned. "Alright, let's go!" Jay grabbed his hand and pulled him up until they broke the surface and he took his first breath of air. "Wow, this is so weird! I wonder if this is how my Aunt Ariel felt...how do people breath like this all the time? I mean-"
Lloyd groaned and tried to pull him down. "Okay, can we go now?"
"No!" Jay pulled him back up. "I want to at least see more. Can you cooperate with me?"
"Fine!" Lloyd groaned and let the older merboy pull him up.
Jay looked around, taking in the scenery and breathing the salty air. "This is so nice...but so weird...but so COOL!"
Lloyd covered his mouth as he practically shouted the last word. "We don't want humans seeing us, do we?"
Jay sighed, disappointed. "No." But he swam towards a big shape in the water anyways. A human ship from Ninjago. The Destiny's Bounty.
"No way! NO!" Lloyd pulled on Jay's arm, but the blue-eyed naiad was persistent. He swam up to the ship, pulled up a ledge with all his might, and looked through a porthole.
There were wooden structures of two human-sized, soft-looking, rectangular things covered in thin blankets of cloth, that must have been where they slept. It seemed a little strange, after 15 years of sleeping in cushioned, giant dead oysters. And there were the humans. The first one he saw was a weird-looking, silver human, with weird-looking silver hair, cleaning the floor. He could hear bits and pieces of his speech, and his voice was weird too. The second one had skin like Jay, but in a darker shade, and his hair towered above his head like a brown iceberg.
But the third one was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Her legs long and shapely, her figure like that of an hourglass, her hair dark and tied into a ponytail. But one of her most remarkable features was a small, black dot on her right cheek. It was beautiful.
"A mark of eternal beauty," he whispered.
"Bleh, what is that on her face?" Lloyd stuck out his tongue.
And her voice. He heard her laugh and talk to the one with tall hair. It was so sweet and pretty, its sharp soprano tone resonating within Jay's ears as he felt his face grow warm and reality melted away...
Lloyd, however, noticed that Jay's face was turning a bright shade of red, panicked and threw him down.
"Jay, are you alright?" he asked as they hit the water.
"Never better," he replied softly. "How 'bout you?"
"I thought you were gonna die! Your face was turning red and I thought you were running out of water to breathe so I panicked.
Jay snapped out of his trance. "W-what? I-I was breathing fine! Why would you think-"
"Your face was red," he repeated flatly.
"Oh." Jay sighed. "I....th-there was a lot of ni...niacin in the air?"
"No, Jay," Lloyd replied. "You weren't in love, were you?"
Jay's face flushed with shock, but he brushed it off. "Wh-what? No, no, why'd you think that? I mean, maybe her hair was perfect and her eyes were such a warm brown and- OKAY, MAYBE I'M IN LOVE! Just...d-don't tell Cole, okay?"
Lloyd sighed in disappointment. "Fine. But that was kind of funny."
Cole, a surly yet well-meaning merman and Jay's best friend, had heard the news from Lloyd, so he went to check on his young buddy, finding him sitting on his bed, talking to himself. Blushing. Stuttering. Uncontrollable smiling. Playing with his hair, fidgeting with his hands. Yep. He was definitely in love.
"Jay?" The 17-year-old swam towards the ginger-haired merman. "I heard everything."
"Whaaat? You...you did?" He laughed nervously, acting oblivious. "I had no idea- I had no idea you'd know!"
"It's okay," he replied, sitting down with him. "I was in love once too. Seliel was her name. Beautiful, flowing pink hair and the most gorgeous grey eyes. She rejected me as soon as she laid eyes on me. I decided henceforth to never fall in love again. It's probably the same with humans. Maybe you could learn from that."
Jay looked white as a sheet. "You're so honest it's terrifying," he squeaked.
"I encourage you not to go near humans again," Cole said, his voice stoic as he lowered those fat black caterpillars of eyebrows. "If you know what's good for you, stay here."
"Please don't sing," Jay told him anxiously.
"Under the sea, under the sea~" Cole began jokingly, dancing around in a silly manner. He chuckled at Jay's amused expression. "I'm kidding, I wouldn't do that to ya." He ruffled the shorter male's hair.
Jay laughed, but sighed as soon as the dark-haired male left him. "Will I ever see her again?"
"Cole's so strict, jeez," Lloyd groaned as he popped out from behind Jay, scaring him half to death.
"Woah!" Jay struggled to catch his breath.
"Sorry, dude," he replied. "And I heard from some friends about a sorcerer who can grant wishes," he replied. "I mean, I still don't like humans, but I want you to be happy, so...free ticket to love, I guess?"
Jay smiled at the tyke, ruffling his hair. "Thanks, buddy." He then raised an eyebrow. "But where do we find 'em, anyways?"
"He lives in a giant teapot," Lloyd said.
"So he's Spongebob?" Jay raise his eyebrows.
Lloyd facepalmed. "No. His name is Nadakhan."
"Cool, cool, so he has this super exotic name! This means he has a cool accent too, right?"
"So, it should be pretty conspicuous, right?" Jay asked as they traveled through the waters, trying to find Nadakhan's home. "The giant teapot, I mean."
Lloyd raised a thin eyebrow. "What does 'conspicuous' mean?"
"Oh, I mean, it should be pretty obvious?"
"Yeah," Lloyd replied. "I've seen it before."
"'Kay, bye!" Jay rushed off immediately, leaving Lloyd to trail way behind.
"Why is he so fast?" Lloyd mumbled. "No wonder his friends call him a lightning bolt, I mean, both in terms of swimming and talking...."
He swam over to the wall and looked in through an opening he supposed was a doorway. It was quite the luxury place, with gold adorning the walls and exceptionally comfortable-looking furniture, and - gasp - delicious food! Lloyd visibly shook, a pained expression on his face as he gave himself away.
"What are you doing?" Nadakhan, who, in fact, had quite the accent, turned around and noticed him, before suddenly acting friendly. "Come in, eat! You look hungry."
"No thanks, I'll pass," the kid replied, shrinking away.
"Oh, please, you're starving," he replied. "You're tempted, but you're holding back..."
Lloyd pouted. "Fine." He swam in, sat on a cushion and began to eat. It was so good, he had to eat more. While Lloyd was busy eating, Nadakhan looked at Jay.
"So you have heard about me," he said softly. "Come on. Tell me what it is you wish for."
"Alright," Jay said, sitting down. "I fell-"
"-in love with a human girl, I know," he replied.
"And I want to become human so I can see her again," Jay admitted.
Nadakhan smirked. "It is possible, but as you know, even the greatest magic comes at a price," he said. "Let's see...I could give you the verbal skills of a deaf person, curse your tongue to speak nonsense, no...I want your voice."
"My voice?" Jay gasped, touching his throat. "This just got a whole lot harder."
"You know how the story goes. But don't worry." He smiled. "You'll still have your laugh, your cry, your scream. You simply won't be able to speak or sing. However, I shall emphasize your youthful good looks and cuteness. Is it a deal?"
"Wait, wait, before you do it," Jay said quickly, "why is it that you want my voice? Is it important?"
"I could use it," he said with a shrug. "There's a certain...youthful charm in it. Also, I like that Jersey accent."
"I don't have a Jersey accent!" he replied in his slight Jersey accent.
"Ironic," came Lloyd's voice from the corner.
Nadakhan chuckled, then, without warning, snapped his fingers as Jay felt his tail split in two and lose its scales. He groaned in pain, and then it was gone, and he looked down. There, below his pelvis, was a pair of long, shapely legs.
"You have collaborated most excellently," Nadakhan said, ruffling Jay's hair. "But you may want to swim to the surface before you run out of air."
As if on cue, water filled Jay's mouth and he clutched his throat, struggling to hold his breath as he clumsily swam to the surface on his new limbs. Finally, he broke the waves, and the first intake of air was like the breath of life. Letting the water escape his mouth, he crawled out onto the sand, before being tortured by a burning sensation - no one had told him sand was hot! Leaping up like a spooked frog, he then collapsed headfirst back into the sand, the other way. This time it was cooler, possibly from being wet, and much more comfortable. He sighed in relief.
Jay felt for his legs, then practiced moving them individually. He must have looked ridiculous with his legs flailing around like they were. So he slowly pulled them to the front of him, sitting up, then pushing himself up with his hands. He wobbled to and fro a bit, but soon, he was clumsily putting one foot in front of the other. He was walking! Soon enough, he was maintaining his balance on the sand, and he could even run! But then he looked down, and realized he needed to hide.
Jay took cover under a large boulder, looking around for something to cover him. Without a tail, he needed clothes to be acceptable in public. But where would he get clothes?
Thinking quickly, he eyed a torn sail that lay a few feet away from him. It had to do.
Jay scooter over to reach for the sail, using some of its rope to secure it around his waist. It probably looked strange, but he was covered now. He wandered the beach, looking for the girl from the ship he'd fallen head over heels for. He looked out into the ocean, but as far as he looked, he couldn't see the Destiny's Bounty among the ships. So he looked on the beach.
A shape, looking rather broken, lay on the shore, and Jay approached it. The Bounty had crashed, possibly from a storm on the surface of the water. Jay looked inside, seeing the metal human laying with his eyes half-closed, and the one with tall hair wasn't even breathing .He looked through the rubble and pulled the girl out, placing his head against her chest and waiting.
She was breathing.
Relieved, the teen shook her awake, blinking at her as soon as her eyelids fluttered.
"What the..." The brown eyes gazed upon Jay and the girl backed away. "Get off me, you creep!"
Creep? Okay, not the best first impressions! Jay backed off a little as well, placing his hands up in defense.
The girl stared at him, and he placed his hands down and looked at her in curiosity. She approached him. "Why are you wearing a sail?"
Jay glanced down at his attire, and then back up, shrugging. Maybe a sock will make me free, he wanted to joke, but his lack of voice seemed to limit his sense of humor.
She suddenly looked into the shipwreck and screamed the tall-haired guy's name, playing with his face and pressing on his chest. Jay tilted his head until the girl's head landed on the boy's chest and she cried out. Water was coming out of her eyes. Jay approached her curiously, tapping her on the shoulder, and when she turned around, he wiped the water from her eyes, looking concerned.
"He's gone," the girl said, her voice shaky. "He's never coming back."
The mute boy's eyes widened. Not coming back? He placed a hand on her shoulder, and she shrugged it off.
"Don't try to comfort me, boy," she yelled, her voice carrying an edge, "I barely know you! You freak!"
Jay's face fell and he backed away, before collapsing on his rear on the sand. He buried his head for a long time.
Jay shakily stood up and walked towards the girl again. He sat by her and watched her. Her eyes made more water. In curiosity, Jay wiped some of it away and looked at it on his finger. It was salty, like the ocean. But did it taste like the water he used to breathe?
Oblivious to the girl's reaction, Jay licked the water from his finger. It tasted like salt, but not in the oceanic way.
The girl raised an eyebrow. "Did you just...indirectly lick my tears?"
Jay shrugged. Was that weird?
"Are you even from here?" she asked. "Talk to me."
Jay sighed, but pointed to his throat, disappointed.
"So you can't. You must not be the guy I saw through the window," the girl muttered.
Jay blushed, eyes going big. She noticed me? She knew I was there?
"Even if you were the one, how would you have even lost your voice so quickly?" Nya added.
Uh...a shady genie in a weird scarf made me sign this evil paperwork and I couldn't breathe underwater? Nah, that sounded dumb. An evil genie cast a magic spell on me that gave me legs but took away my voice? She's probably seen a thousand fairy tales, even though that's the truth she couldn't possibly believe it! Jay looked up, a conflicted expression on his face.
"Well...since we're here, I might as well tell you my name." The girl held out her hand. "I'm Nya Smith, crew member of the Destiny's Bounty."
This I knew. I shook her hand gladly.
"Now...weird mute boy wearing a sail, can I get your name?" Nya looked at him with mild concern. "Can you write it?"
Writing...oh yeah. Maybe I could write in the sand. Now...
J...a straight line, curved at the bottom. A...two lines connected together, with a horizontal line in the middle. Y...one slanted line followed by a smaller one. He hoped he hadn't done too badly.
"Jay," Nya said, and Jay was relieved. "Do you write often? Your handwriting...you seemed really confused about it."
Truthfully, Jay shook his head. No, I haven't written in a while. I wish I had. From what I can tell my handwriting is almost as bad as Lloyd's.
"Well, even if you can't talk and you're kind of a weirdo, you seem pretty nice. Do you have a home?"
Jay looked down in shame, then shook his head. Not on the surface.

Cool!
Thanks, and...not to be rude, but you could say something else. What you really feel about the chapter. A witty quip. how precious a bean Jay is I'm just saying, "cool" doesn't really say anything. Be honest. Really look into the chapter and see what's right and/or wrong. Comment on the plot. Ask what happens next. Even "[character] NOOO" or "ooh, nice reference" will do. It will help if you're a bit more specific.
But I'm glad you liked the chapter! I'll post moar more soon!

Oh ok, I'll do that next time, thanks for telling me. ( Still breaking the old repetitive habit of saying only " awesome! " , " cool!" , " nice!" , " very nice!" , " neat!" , "amazing!" , " yeah! " and " Ok! ". That was like half my vocabulary for awhile I think... ) Great! ( Oh yeah, that's another one. )

That makes sense, especially if you can't really think of anything. I've been a victim of this too.
