I woke up, expecting to smell freshly burnt bread that Steve had overcooked. But instead, I smelled soft, warm bread. I sat up and noticed that I'm in a tent. All the memories of meeting Maybi, Kayda and Kara last night came rushing back. I sat up and walked out of the tent to see the three girls sitting around the campfire, cooking six loaves of bread. "Good morning, Alex!" Kayda exclaimed. "Hey, Alex." Maybi smiled. Kara stayed silent. "Hey, guys! That's... A lot of bread." I laughed. "Yeah, we like making a lot so we can feed the fish when we go for our daily swim. Swimming's a good way to stay healthy." Maybi rotated a piece of bread on it's skewer roasting above the fire. "Wow, um... It's okay if you say no, but... Mind if I join you?" I said, nervously. "Sure! Like I said, we could always use new friends! Whenever someone stays here, which, might I add, we charge nothing for people to stay the night and plenty of good food. Anyway, they never actually want to be friends. They're just really nice the first day, then they wake up before us the next day and they just leave, taking all our food with them. We're three great friends, being really nice to others by offering them a place to stay. Then they just leave... Without even saying goodbye..." Maybi said, pulling a piece of bread off of it's skewer and slicing it up. "That's just rude! If they don't want to be your friends, they shouldn't think it's okay to eat your food and spend the night. If you think about it, you guys're possibly saving peoples lives by giving them shelter from the monsters. But... I'll be your friend." I said, smiling. "Really? Awesome! Thank you! Also, if we want to go swimming, we'd better leave now." Kayda said, looking up at the sun, guessing the time. "I... Think I'll stay here." Kara murmured quietly. "Really, Kara? You used to love our daily swims in the lake, why have you been so against it the past few months?" Maybi said. Without speaking, Kara stood up and left, heading toward the mountains. She broke into a run and she dashed up the hill, disappearing into the trees.
"It's really rare. It's extremely rare in 2% of the ocean, but it's fairly common in 1%." Clara smiled. "Seriously? Clara, I've never even heard of this Pink Diamond. Quit lying." "I'm not lying! Now, you better get going!" Clara pushed me into a minecart that Steve had built so that he could gather sugar cane and fish from the ocean quickly. The minecart started out slow for about three seconds, then it hit a powered rail and it shot forward. I ducked down to avoid the wind blowing in my face. I grabbed a lever and pulled it hard, expecting the minecart to stop, or at least slow down. But it didn't. It kept flying forward, at a seemingly impossible speed. And yet, it took hours to reach the ocean.
When I finally arrived I thankfully stepped out of the minecart, happy that the ride was over. "Okay, now to find that..." I trailed off as I realized that I had no idea what I'm doing. I mean, I know that I'm supposed to find the Pink Diamond, but Clara never told me how to find it. Am I supposed to dive down to the bottom of the ocean, then open my eyes, turn on a flashlight and just look around? I sighed as I sat down on the sandy beach. I noticed the sun was starting to set, so I stood up. I looked around for somewhere to sleep, and I noticed a camp with tents. There were a few girls sitting around a campfire. I sighed. I looked up and noticed a few stars in the sky. This was my only hope to survive the night. Or I could just, you know, fight off Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers, Spiders, maybe a few Endermen, and some Witches all night long. I took a deep breath and walked over to the camp. "Um, hi, I'm Alex. I don't really have anywhere to stay tonight, so..." I nervously said to the three girls. "You mean you want to stay here? Of course! We always have an extra tent, extra food, and we could always use new friends! I'm Maybi, this is Kara and Kayda." The dark-haired girl named Maybi said, pointing to a lighter-haired girl named Kayda and a purple haired girl named Kara. I suddenly felt like my orange hair was plain compared to Kara's knee-length bright purple hair. I sat down next to Maybi as Kayda handed me a plate with an apple and a slice of bread. I smiled.

IDK
I feel like you visited us over on the Jurassic World board at some point. Lol, I claim the donuts.

We walked down a path through the forest, heading toward the lake.
"Why don't we swim in the ocean? It seems a lot closer then the lake." I asked.
"Well, we call it a lake, but it's really a spring. Kayda's afraid of saltwater, I have no idea why, so we can't swim in the ocean." Maybi said.
"Hey! I'm not the only one who's afraid of saltwater! Kara used to not like swimming in the ocean, too. Speaking of which, where'd Kara go?" Said Kayda.
"I don't know... But if she doesn't want to swim, she doesn't have to. I'm a bit concerned though. She used to love swimming..." Maybi trailed off. "Oh! There's the lake!" Maybi turned left and started climbing a tree.
"Um...?" I was confused.
"We like to jump into the lake from tree branches. It may seem weird, but it's actually really fun. Hey! Maybi! Wait up!" Kayda ran after Maybi and started climbing the tree.
"Well, guess I'm doing this now!" I excitedly started climbing the tree. I couldn't wait to dive off and swim in the lake! I've always wanted a pool.
After a few minutes, we had climbed up the entire tree. We could see in all directions, all around us.
"Yahoo!" Maybi hollered as she dove off the tree. She fell for a few seconds before she went underwater.
Before Kayda dove, she turned to me. "If you're afraid, don't worry. I know it's really high up, but hey, the chances of you getting hurt are almost none. 40% at the least." Kayda cannon balled into the lake. I looked down. I actually wasn't scared, until Kayda told me not to be. I noticed the tall mountain in the distance and thought about Kara.
Huh, I thought. That's the mountain that Kara ran off into. I wonder if she's up there right now, or...
My thoughts were interrupted by the sight of a small dot of purple on the very top of the mountain, the same color as Kara's hair. I looked closer and realized that it was Kara herself. She was looking right at me. I suddenly got very nervous. I saw her hide behind a tree.
I heard two faint voices. "Hey! Alex! Are you coming? You're not afraid, are you? I told you, there's not much chance of you getting hurt!" "Calm down, Kayda, she'll go when she's ready."
Suddenly, I don't even want to dive anymore. I have no idea why.
“Hey! Alex! C’mon! We’re waiting!” I heard Kayda yell.
But I don’t want to dive. Not because I’m scared, but because I want to go talk to Kara. I want to ask her why she doesn’t want to swim. I want to know why she doesn’t talk much. And I want to know where she got her hair dyed because I want to make mine red. “U-Um…” I hesitate. I take a deep breath and step off the branch, going in the water feet-first. I try to swim up to the surface, but I can’t. That’s when I remember.
I can’t swim.
I begin to struggle to even know which way the surface is. After I’d been under awhile, I feel someone grab my hand and pull me up. I gasp for air. I open my eyes and see Maybi in front of me. “Are you okay?!” She asked desperately. “You were under there a long time!” “Well… Y-yeah… I can’t swim.” I said. Luckily, I was near the edge of the water. I grabbed a tree root sticking out from the side of the lake, kind of like a handlebar. “What? Then why’d you want to go swimming?” Kayda asked, with a smirk on her face. Something seems odd about her… “Well, I… Forgot.” I avoided eye contact with either of them, as I was embarrassed for forgetting such an important detail. Kayda burst out laughing. “Y-you forgot you don’t know how to swim?! That’s hilarious!” Kayda laughed so hard she clapped her hands, which made her have to stop moving her arms to stay above water, so she sunk. She immediately swam back up, though. “Kayda, it’s not funny.” Maybi said. “Not to you! To me, well, it’s hilarious!” Kayda kept laughing. Now I know she’s not nice. I could have drowned, and she’s saying it’s funny. I turn my head to avoid eye contact again, and I see the mountain. Kara’s still up there. Her hair really stands out against the snow. “I-I have to go. I’ll be back soon, I just need to go… Check something.” I climb out of the water and start running toward the mountain. “Okay, see you later!” Maybi called after me.

I run up the mountain. The only thing I know about Kara is her name, so why am I so set on finding her?
I soon realize that I’m far enough up the mountain where the tempature is below freezing, so, since I’m wet from swimming, I could freeze up here. I quicken my pace, wanting to find Kara and leave this snowy mountain as fast as possible.
Once I reach the top, I see her. She’s standing on a cliff, right above the ocean. She was facing away from me. I was about to ask her what she was doing, but she dove off. I ran to the edge of the cliff. She dove right into the ocean. Without thinking, I dove in, too.
After almost drowning in the lake, I thought I would at least know how to swim to the top, and I did. It was hard, but I made it up to the surface. I looked around, but I didn’t see Kara.
All I saw was a purple-haired mermaid staring right at me.
I had no words. Except these.
“You-- Kayda-- Maybi-- But-- What?!” I went underwater to make sure I was seeing this right. Yep, Kara had a mermaid tail. I came back up. “I-- We--” I still don’t know what to say.
“Alex, don’t tell anyone. Maybi would think it’s cool, but Kayda would tell everyone she knows. And Maybi can’t keep a secret.” Kara looked around. “It was dangerous for me to swim, ever, because people might see me. But I’ve learned to only swim when no one’s--” I interrupted her.
“How’d you even become a mermaid?” I asked.
“I found a cave in the mountain. I went exploring, and I saw a pond. I was really cold, and it looked like a hot spring. So I got in it, and… Well… I got a tail.”
“Hey! Alex! C’mon! We’re waiting!” I heard Kayda yell.

That’s a mistake I’d make. =P
Which mistake? The mistake of forgetting that you don't know how to swim, the mistake of laughing at your friend, or the mistake of running up a cold, snowy mountain when you're wet from swimming?
... I'm just now realizing how many mistakes are in this story

Forgetting I don’t know how to swim, it’s one of those things that y think you know how to do, but then you remember that you can’t. =P

It's ironic how when they feel the need to tell you not to get worried that you should be panicking.

Alex doesn't appear to think through her actions very thoroughly.
