Shad left the teens at a trunk in the corner of his tent. Con glanced around the tent taking a quick survey while he waited his turn. Shad kept it tidy. He had everything squirreled away in their places and spic-n-span. Then his eyes stumbled across the desk. This was obviously the room's achilles heel. Papers were scattered thickly across the breadth of the cherry wood and pens and pencils peeped mischievously out of odd places. Several fantastical paper weights were arranged in a straight line across the back, and a stapler/tape dispenser was on the fritz in one of the back corners. The teens all made their selections quickly and then drifted back out. The stange thing was that each of them had found their weapon inside a black case with their name on it, like it was premeditated what each of them would be most skillful with. Con slung the case for his Heckler and Koch sniper rifle over one shoulder. He had had basics firearm handling training in Mockingbird but they didn't really focus on it. He filed away the list of the other's weapons away in his brain, under the title assets. Jay, Walther P. Katie, a thin cable. Nexo, brass knuckles that poped out short blades. Of course these weapons were only last resort assets, but it was reassuring to have one. Shad had disappeared which was definitely something none of them were used to a sarge doing. Assuming that they were to fend for them selves till he turned up again they all drifted into the woods and eventually their hike turned into a mad game of capture the flag. It was incredeible how competitive and yet fun games could be. Even the more quite Katie joined in and turned out to be fierce, only Cade stayed reclining on the limbs of nearby ash trees or maples watching them contently. They all staggered into camp long after the sun had gone down on their flashlight tag. Shad smiled at them as they filed sheepishly into the cat rooms to wash up. He didn't seem mad at all.
I'm sorry my lemon peepers. I had another battle with writers block, but I'm forcing my way through it and I hope the writing's not too bad in result. Enjoy!
Chapter Fifteen The Meanwhiles Around Town (part 1) (I'm so sorry, I miscounted. The chapter number is actually fifteen. X.X Sorry once again)
Wanda padded silently through her halls. Carter had been babying her all weekend, cooking her meals and enforcing a rigorous relaxing schedule. He had been popping in and out checking things and cooking. He had even made her do fun stuff, pretty much shoving her into the car and dropping her off at a small secluded pool with her swimsuit in hand. He had proceeded to sit in the idling car for ten minutes to ensure she actually did it. Though with his uncanny senses of when she was cheating she had the surreal feeling that if she stepped out those doors even a minute before the pickup time he would know somehow. Naturally she preformed all the proper rituals of grousing and complaining and digging in her heels, but secretly she actually didn't mind. It was nice not to have the whole world on her shoulders for once. She prowled into the kitchen and helped herself to some mid afternoon ice cream, the soft ticking of the clock in the background. Halfway through, she realized that-the loud in the quite-tinking noise of her spoon was lonely. She missed having her old life, when she was care free and work was only for money. Time for friends and high school sweethearts, without having an entire security detail hanging on every word. At least they weren't peering in the windows yet, but she knew they were out there in bushes and garden gnomes or wherever. She shuffled back to her room and gazed longingly at the files from work sitting on her desk. As much as she missed her free time, she was incredible bored on Carter's rest regime. She brushed her fingers on the manila and bit her lip regretful she couldn't actually open them. A knock on her door startled her from here reverie. She nearly jumped out of her skin and blushed guiltily, moving away from the folders. Could he read her mind or something? His timing was just so maddening. Swiftly she went to open the door, shoving down her irritation at his blasted radar.

Con took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He was sitting side by side on mossy log with Shad. He held in the breath and savored it. The damp clean smell of the wet dew on the log, crushed grass, dirt. He felt an incredible peace rising in from his toes and swirling into his scalp making it tingle. Con listened to the distant voice of Shad intoneing calm instructions. "Now that yur mind is calm and you can see it clearly and analyze yur thoughts, I want yu to picture a door. Can you see it?" Con's face tightened in effort and he frowned in concentration. After a few minutes he was breaking out in a light sweat. Shad broke his focus. "Con. Lad, yur trying too hard. Yu can't force something like this. Yu need to think about finding the door without pinning it down and dissecting it. Take a moment and clear yur mind again." Con tamped down the frustration blooming in his abdomen and tapped into the peace he had felt at first. "Okay, try again. Just pretend yur wandering thru a strange house and exploring, soon enough yu'll happen upon the door." Con relaxed his mind and let the thought of a door hover in the back. Slowly he became away of a rectangle shape taking place to his left, he turned to it and it began hardening into realness. He opened the door in his mind, he didn't know how, and moved through. On the other side he saw a glowing, pulsing spot. Drawn in towards it he saw it pulsing faster and faster the closer he got. He got so close that he was completely engulfed in the light.

Ooh, keep fighting the good fight!
I CON't aim to save my skin, this would go bad IRL.
