That's not what is meant when we say not to build your house on the sand. What is meant is that there's a certain type of dry dirt that feels firm, feels like it's right, but when the rains come that ground becomes total mud and you're quite literally sunk if you built your house on the sandy ground.

I wouldn't want to hang out with him, sure, but that doesn't mean I'd just leave him. I'm pretty straight forward when shutting down brats, bullies, and the like. It does indeed. Yeah, but rough is oft avoidable.
I can see bullies but when people are bratty I generally don't see it as my place to try and correct them. Ah good, I haz basic communication. Sometimes.
