Mia growled to herself, her idiot team failed, it was up to her now. She stepped out into the hall and held her metal baton in a ready position. They shot at her but she whirled her pole and deflected them. One of the girls charged her and Mia swung at her head. She blocked it to Mia’s surprise with fast reflexes. They parried and danced back and forth, she was better than Mia had first thought, trained in self defense. Faking a whack at her left shoulder Mia dodged right and grabbed her shoulder and dislocated it. She put the girl between the team and her and kept a grip on the shoulder, she moved it and the girl stayed bent in agony. She slammed her head against the wall and let the teen slump to the ground badly dazed. She fought the other two girls as they attacked at the same time. She moved in a blur, she was fresh and they were tired. She knocked the small one with the weird eyes out and the other girl backed away for a moment. They locked eyes. Mia felt the urge to say something, “Give up now and I'll make it quick.” The girl spit to the side and held her fists up in the classic boxing position. “I'll get up until there is nothing left.” Mia took an angry step forward and shouted, “And I'll put you down every time you get up!” The girl smiled, “So do it then.” Mia twisted her pole and it separated into three one foot sections with chains in between. She began fighting in a whirlwind hand to hand. The girl eventually began to wear down, Mia knocked her down and kicked her in the gut before she could get up. The girl sweep kicked her and when she jumped to avoid it rolled backwards to her feet. They went at it again and Mia waited until she finally saw her opening and wrapped her weapon around the girls neck, the girl managed to get four of her fingers in between and gasped desperately. She kicked at Mia and fought and fought but when the black dots began swimming in front of her eyes she weakened before finally slumping across the buckled wall. Mia stepped over her and walked towards the last teen.
This injured one was unarmed but he threw a brick at Mia. It did nothing, Mia knocked him down. She marched down the hallway in search of the others. Katie hauled herself to Elliea and tried to wake the other girl. Landon shook his head trying to clear it. Random lights were flashing in his vision, he scooted to where he could see the others then crawled over to where Laila was floating as fast as he could. He pulled her head into his lap and pushed her hair out of her eyes. “Hey, you okay?” The girl nodded painfully, “I’ll live. Would’ve been way more dramatic if I’d died.” Landon felt like shaking her, hard, “Don’t even joke like that!” Laila chuckled dryly, “Yeah, you’re right. Can the doctor fix this tornado in my head, it hurts pretty bad.” Landon shook his head regretfully. “Sorry, I’ll administer you aspirin when we get out of here kay?” Laila sat up unsteadily, “When....I love that word.” Elliea awoke and rose feeling a bit wobbly and disoriented. The other group couldn’t know that Mia was hunting them. Alex knew something was going one but wasn’t sure what.
Mia stalked down the dim hallways, her weapon’s chains rattling. She turned the corner and ran into someone. She stumbled back and swung her pole like a nunchuk. The person blocked it with a forearm then returned the attack. She swung viciously releasing a flurry of left and right blows to the head and ribs. The man managed to block some but not all and she heard something crack when she connected with his left side of the rib cage. The guy backed off a little holding his left arm against his side. She grinned and advanced quickly to get him while he was weakened. She swung with all her strength at his head but at the last second the man stuck his hand in between her pole and his skull. He padded the blow enough that he just fell to the ground unconscious, his hand was probably badly broken though she surmised. She kicked him just to make sure he wouldn’t be any more of a problem. Damian turned to the rest of his squad, “Alex was on point and she just took him down!” Con shot back frantically, “Uh yeah! How come he didn’t feel her coming!” He was bordering on panic as they watched the girl prod Alex’s limp form. Damian shook his head, “No time. Look. here’s the plan. My power is mastering any weapon, I’ll take her on, you all wait back here and if you can, try to get Alex back up.” There was no more time to talk, the woman was stalking towards them and Damian edged out of cover to face her. He put his wrapped hands up and narrowed his eyes at her. She attacked with as much energy as before, he blocked and diverted blow after blow before she finally broke his guard. He stumbled back arms to the side and she darted after him hooking her chain around the back of his neck and pulling him close, tightening the loop. He choked and stared at her in surprise. She sneered and whispered a few centimeters from his face. “I have already faced you friends. They all fell and failed. You thought you could lead them? You thought you could make the right choices?” She grinned wickedly while perceiving her words hit home, his eyes widened and the doubt and fear showed.
She pressed her advantage, “You ever thought that you could be good enough? Worthy enough? You will never be the leader they need! You have innocent blood on your hands, you are a failure, a reject, a misfit!” She narrowed her eyes and got nose to nose with him and hissed. “What can you do.” He made a tiny choke noise, then narrowed his eyes as well. Something harder than titanium showed in his eyes under the fear and self doubt, and she felt afraid. He barely managed to croak, “This.” Then he put all of his 200 pounds into punching her in the gut. The punch hooked up under the ribs and slammed into her diaphragm. She crumpled to the ground with no air and curled up. He knelt quickly and handcuffed her writhing body. Turning he saw Con carefully trying to wake Alex. He staggered over rubbing his throat. “How is he?” His voice sounded raw. Con shook his head, “Alive. Currently.” Damian crouched down on Alex’s other side. “Seems like not too long ago we were saving him. Deja vu anyone?” Con tentatively felt the unconscious man’s head for wounds and swore softly, “What we really need is Landon right now. We can’t move him, like, not even a fraction. He’s safe now but if he’s moved his ribs could puncture a lung, no way to see the positioning of the ends.” Damian frowned “Okay, I’m going to have to finish this." He looked around, “Lilly, Nexo stay with Alex, keep him from moving. Con, you’re with me.” He got up and ran down the halls and up stairs, shadowed by Con. Damian hurtled into a dim office minutes later and froze.
A figure cloaked in darkness stood in the corner. “Get out here now!” Damian ordered. The figure stepped into the dim light and Damian felt the shock of recognition. “Fealon!” The man sneered, “That’s right. You pathetic worm, you never thought you could win did you?” Damian glared at the man. Fealon laughed, unstable. “It’s far too late for that, I’ve already launched my world wide domination program. You’ve lost.” Damian couldn’t find his words, Fealon had come back and the pain of his original betrayal doubled. Fealon’s maniacal laughter was brought to an abrupt stop as a new shadowy figure appeared in the doorway behind them. Con instantly spun around to cover the tango, “Drop any weapons you have, I want to see your hands.” The newcomer showed his palms to prove he didn’t have any weapons, then slowly slowly edged into the light so he was just inside the room. The young man was probably in his early twenties and very pale looking, very skinny as well. On top of that he was pushing seven foot and had long silver hair. His eyes were an alarming pale violet color. He held his hands up by his head, “Actually, Fealon….you didn’t win.” Fealon froze and turned his eyes on the man, he blinked behind his glasses. “Cipher. What….what do you mean. You swore that nothing would go wrong!” Cipher stared steadily at his boss, “And nothing did, I never specified what would not go wrong. You’re done.” Fealon didn’t put any fight up after that and Damian handcuffed him quickly. Then both men turned to the wildcard, Cipher. Damian edged forward. “You’re coming with us, turn around.” The man did and they handcuffed him too then marched them both back towards the group.

Chapter Sixty-Six Binding (part 1)
It took much longer to get to the group because all the militia in the building didn’t want to admit losing, they continued to harass the teens and didn’t seem to care that they could take their former leader out with a straying bullet. These men were the kind that didn’t care who was in charge they just fought. Damian finally reached the semi-collapsing hallway he had left the rest of his group, they had pulled wreckage up to provide some cover against fire and it seemed to be holding up so far, but was showing signs of stress. They four slid inside and found themselves in an even dimmer, very small, space. Con put the barrel of his sniper rifle poking out of a hole on one side and methodically silenced those who came round. Nexo was keeping a close eye on Rome and Lilly was using her revolver on the side opposite Con. Daiman had to kind of yell over the constant booming of bullets breaking the sound barrier. “Nexo! Report conditions!” Nexo leaned forward and kind of yelled back, “Alex’s currently stable but he woke up briefly and the rib came through the side a little. His lungs still sound clear but he could wake up anytime and accidentally do more damage. I have no idea how we’re going to get him out though with all the tangos running around. Speaking of that we’re also almost completely out of rounds.” Damian pondered for a moment, then he decided he might as well make the situation clear to everyone. They all huddled over Alex to hear except the two laying down cover fire. “Guys, we can’t get out with Alex. So I’m not getting out. The rest of you can make your choices, no judgment. To be honest you’d be crazy to stay as it’s almost certain death. Even with our powers there are hundreds of tangos, to many.” No one spoke as Lilly threw her now empty and useless weapon at the enemy and grabbed Damian’s, the last one and Con continued to chew steadily through his ammo. Then all of the team nodded. They would stay with their downed fellow.
Lilly ran out of ammo first and chucked that gun as well the crawled back to the group and huddled with them. They were making themselves as small targets as possible, that way if bullets started to get through, and they would, there was less of a chance of getting hit. Con ran out only moments later and crawled back to them with his rifle in tow. They all sat quietly as the thunder of gunfire continued it’s deadly reign. They could see the impact of the bullets on the inside now, their shelter would be shredded in minutes. Just as they expected gritted their teeth and said their last prayers and clung to each other the noise of gunfire quadrupled. The world rumbled beneath their feet and bucked once more. The sound of shrieking metal and things being destroyed filled the air, then drifted into the distance, though the low steady rumble continued. The teens all blinked the buckets of dust and debris away in surprise. The gunfire echoed in the distance but it was silent nearby now. They all looked at each other before Damian took initiative and crawled slowly from the wreckage. He came out to a loveliness. Open dark sky with a smattering of stars, the whole building had been blown away in that small section. A massive hunk, gone. The rain poured in and drenched him, but it was fresh and clean not the chafing damp of earlier. A helicopter with a search light flew by high up. Twelve agents rounded the corner in heavy tac gear but when they saw it was Damian they lowered their weapons and one stepped forward and removed his helmet. “It seems we arrived in time.” Damian grabbed Zachariah’s arms in gratitude, “You have no idea. I’m so glad to see you. We owe you man.” Zach slapped him on the back gently, “No es gran cosa, no big deal. I’ll tell you all the details later but what’s your situation, where are the others?” Damian tipped his head back towards the refuse as water sloshed around their ankles. “Most are in their, one’s hurt pretty bad. I have no idea where the others are but the medic is with them. I could have Con try to get em.”
Zach spoke into his walkie talkie. “Hernandez, Philliep, Bouchellie, Foster, Rosa, any of you got a group of teens that are Fourth Wall, probably German or US branch gear?” Static filled the air for a moment before one by one they began replying. “Negative.” “Negatory.” “Nothing here.” “No sir.” Then the last one, a woman, “Yes sir, looks like we got a couple out just a short while ago, some were in pretty bad shape so they all went to the on sit med teams, MedEvac is on it’s way and should be here within the hour.” Zach frowned slightly, “We’ve got another in bad shape, can’t they get here sooner?” “No sir, this rain is causing all kinds of problems, hours the soonest chance.” Zach then fired off rapid spanish for a full three minutes then contacted the remaining german agents and filled them in in english. Zach made Damain and the other sit on wall pieces and rest while his men watched Rome. Finally the loud noise of a chopper hovering over them announced the arrival of the med team. Surprising all of them it was Landon who barreled into the hallway, he had all kinds of supplies in his arms and didn’t even stop to get in the opening of the wreckage, he just dove neatly through the small opening leaving everyone shocked outside. There was no way Landon should be here with a broken leg, he was in pretty bad shape himself. Inside he and two other medics began speaking in their complicated but efficient jargon. Shots were uncapped and injected, temporary bandages were wrapped, then they carefully strapped Alex into the stretcher and scooted him out painstakingly. Then everyone exited the hallway and proceeded outside. The gunfire had stopped aside from a few random quick bursts. Almost all the tangos had been rounded up or eliminated.
The gang was relieved and ecstatic to see the others of their group. They all crashed into violent death grip bearhugs and wept. Jay, Alex, and Laila were on stretchers ad Landon flickered between each of them swiftly actually using his powers so he could watch them all at once. It was like he was so engrossed he did even feel the pain. Con tried to count the shadow Landons zooming around but was so tired that his eyes were blurring in and out of focus. The teens were huddled silently in the rain looking like a miserable clutch of chicks, silent as shock began to kick in. Landon checked them all out eventually and gave them all electrolytes and protein bars while he tended their less serious wounds. Con later saw him inject his leg with what he assumed were painkillers. Some kind soldiers erected a tarp to stave off some of the rain. The night blurred and some of them drifted off in turns held up by their comrades. Finally an hour after dawn the ambulances slogged onto the scene, the roads were very bad in some places. Everyone began shipping out and packing up. The teens were so exhausted by this point that they no longer registered anything and one by one they all fell dead asleep.
