It looks like season 9 is shaping up to be a final season. Or, the dragon-focused faction (Wu and the Ninja) will have to join forces with the Oni-focused faction (Garmadon and SOG) to fight a common enemy, in season 10.
Either way, it sounds like it's going to be pretty epic. I'm still wondering a bit if the writers are planning to end this season on another cliffhanger, rather than ending on a good conclusion before the Season 10.
I think they're gonna wrap up all the stuff with Garmadon and the SOG this season, but continue with the overall Oni and Dragon theme in season 10.

You think so? That could be cool, as long as they don't drag out the concept for too long. It's kind of like a sandwich; it's great to savor and enjoy your meal, but you've also got to eat it before it grows stale.

I've always thought of seasons 1-3 as a trilogy of seasons, which, despite having different stories each season, share the overarching villains Garmadon, Pythor, and the Overlord, all three of whom are defeated by the end of season 3. I think seasons 8-9 or 8-10 will be similar in that way.

Ah, that'a an interesting way to think of it. After all the time that has passed since Season 3, I guess it would make sense to have a longer story playing out now. It's cool.

So, is anyone going to talk about any of the episodes after episode 85? I've actually been enjoying this season a lot more than Season 8, and it might have helped that I had low expectations. I also did not see the twist with Heavy Metal coming, and it really did surprise me, but in a good way.
Tommy Andreasan has done another Two Truths and a Lie for April Fools day. He said that the ninja will learn how to talk to dragons, that Dareth will unlock his power, and that there will be a talking rat. But to be honest, it would be better if it was a Two Lies and a Truth.
The bolded part is now so funny because episode 6 of Season 9 is called Two Lies and a Truth, meaning I accidentally predicted an episode title.

Jay's backstory. Remember how he just did a majestic pose and jumped off a building in the pilots? I'm glad we got to se a different side to it, with Jay's mom, and the whole nervous, "you can do this, Jay" attitude Jay had. It was also great to see Jay actually talking to Wu.
Overall I'm liking season 9 so far. The elemental masters were very underused, as I expected them to be, but other than that the season has been pretty awesome. Episode 92 in particular is excellent. Also, if the realm of Oni and Dragon truly is the first realm, my headcanon is now that a dragon created Chima and an Oni created Knightonia (if the latter is one of the 16 realms). It would certainly make sense, because it's stated in Nexo Knights that monsters ruled Knightonia before they were overthrown and wiped out by man.
Anyway, now I really want a spinoff prequel series for Ninjago. That way LEGO could keep the theme going without having the TV show go on forever and get boring. I'd imagine it'd be like this: 2020 Ninjago Prequel: Season 1— First Spinjitzu Master creates Ninjago, FSM vs Oni; Sets are Oni-themed vehicles with Oni minifigures as the villains. Ninjago Prequel: Season 2— Expanded lore with Soto, Nadakhan, and the other Pirates, teenage Wu and Garmadon's early adventures (Pre-Serpentine war), Chen and Clouse origins; Sets feature Wu and Garmadon vs evil Samurai minifigs. 2021 Ninjago Prequel: Season 3— Post-Serpentine war adventures of Wu, Garmadon, and 1st gen Elemental Masters, Garmadon's spiral into complete evil; Sets feature mutated, toxic Samurai warrior minifigs. Ninjago Prequel: Season 4— Middle-aged Wu and Elemental Masters vs an army of prototype evil nindroids; sets feature old-fashion nindroid minifigs with a steampunk aesthetic (think along the lines of Echo Zane).

It seems you're right about that. The Sons of Garmadon have been defeated, but the ending heavily implies that the Oni will return as major villains. Maybe when Garmadon was resurrected, it allowed the Oni to return from the Departed Realm, and Garmadon wanted to rule Ninjago so he could defend it from the Oni.

To be honest, I don't think having multiple prequel seasons is necessary. However, if you think it's a good idea, you could post it on the inactive Ideas For Future Ninjago Waves.

Is it true that Ultra Dragon was killed off I wonder...

Yes, the Ultra Dragon was killed off, and it was made into a skeletal throne for Iron Baron. Honestly, I would have liked to see a flashback that showed how the Ultra Dragon died, since an offscreen death is less satisfying and has less impact.
