It's February 28th now, and it's been a year since the LEGO Message Boards ended. Many people migrated here, and others just disappeared. It's a shame that it's all gone now. I was logged on for 2 years, had so much fun, met so much friends, and I remember plenty of it.
I remember the post by WhiteAlligator that announced this. The post said that the Message Boards were being closed down to make way for the "exciting features of the future". But now we know that they were talking about LEGO Life, which isn't exciting for anyone with fond memories of the boards. The mods constantly repeated that LEGO Life was not replacing the Message Boards. But when the Message Boards closed down, going to it would redirect you to LEGO Life.
Now what? The Galleries have also been closed down, so LEGO.com has no social features anymore. LEGO Life has been successful, with six million users. Those six million users probably don't know that the Message Boards or Galleries ever existed. Most of the users from the Message Boards migrated to this site, but others haven't been seen again.
All of this is so sad, but I'm sure we all have fond memories of it. So many fun threads, so much discussion about future LEGO sets, and so much good friends who may actually be on this very site! I've experienced all of that over the course of 2 years. Some people have experienced that for even longer, some from before the 2012 update. It all continues here. These boards nearly ended, but now they're still going. Our community is small, but it isn't gone. Keep making fun threads, keep discussing future LEGO sets, and keep interacting with your good friends. All of that will make this place eternal.

So true, so sad. But remember the sun is always behind the clouds.

We're engulfed in the clouds of LEGO Life right now, but we will still keep on shining.
I wasn’t active on the old boards from 2016-17. I missed a lot. I was about to return then I saw they had shut down and now led to this “LEGO Life”. Heartbreaking.

I came back in early 2017/late 2016 JUST to post on the boards. Good times. I however find Proboards a lot easier to use compared to the LMBs (Lithium I mean)

I've been on the LMBs since 2010 and time has indeed changed... It has been nearly 9 years since the creation of my LEGO ID account (14 April 2009) and over a year since the creation of this account on this forum.
I think I had more enjoyment on the old old boards where I made 8000 posts, but some users on the newer boards (yet old) made 100,000 posts.
I was less active on there and only made posts in certain forums. If the LMBs had a notifications feature I probably would have been able to keep up with topics like finding Friendships and WELCOME TO BRICKBOOK!
Anyway, I'm sure the old LMBs is missed by many, but out of the 6 million users who have downloaded LEGO Life (including myself) how many of them actually USE it? I know there are people who post creations there but that is what the galleries where for, right?
Also, I can't believe this community nearly ended too. It seems smaller compared to other LEGO communities, and it is... But those other LEGO communities are mainly for AFOLs, not TFONs which is what the majority of people on the LMBs were.
The only good thing about LEGO.com is the shop section of it now, the games aren't as good as they used to be, especially during the times of Worldbuilder, Worldbuilder 2, Junkbot etc...
So I wonder what LEGO.com will be like in the future? It has changed a lot...
I was just thinking about this a couple days ago. I remember very clearly when the MBs shut down -- I was out running around with my family and was hoping with all my might I'd get home in time to make one final post. Which, spoiler alert, I did, with like two minutes to spare.
I joined the boards sometime in spring of 2014, I want to say it was? But I never even became active, because I don't think eleven-year-old me liked the MBs. For some strange reason, I decided to give it a try on March 30th, 2016. I started out only being active in the Disney forum, but after a while I made my way over to Community Chat, and had so much fun there. I met a ton of new friends, had a lot of...interesting chats, and all in all just had a great time.
There are times I wish I would've been active for longer than I was -- I never even lived to see my one-year anniversary, how's that for depressing? -- but at the same time, I think it just would've been more painful to see the boards close after having been there longer, as with a lot of you. Because it was painful enough as it was.
I knew about the LMBE almost two months before the closure, so I joined, but wasn't totally active until after they closed. At first, I have to be honest, I didn't think this place could ever replace the MBs. But now, looking at it a year later, I realize that's exactly what they've done. We managed to bring a good lot of our community here, and in a way, I like this place better. because the mods usually don't have rejection reasons that make no sense Seriously though, I guess this place doesn't completely replace the MBs, but it really does carry on the boards' legacy, and that's the important part.
I hope the LMBE will prove to be eternal, and continue to be a fun community that has the spirit of the Message Boards we all know and love.
