I had no idea how Zach was going to get Rome to help him with my present. I just knew Rome was going to help him, and that Bun was going to go along. Didn't know anything else about that until I got there in the story and wrote whatever popped in my head.

Same with me, but when I write a story, I actually write the whole story. I once tried to improvise a story, but then I couldn't get my ideas to connect well.

Well, my writing/film projects usually take over a year, so I like to really think about it and decide if I'm really willing to put that much time and effort into it.
