Basically, al of the stones except for the orb in the attack were unstable simulations, with the same power but only able to be contained inside the gauntlet. When the gauntlet was shattered, it caused them all to dissipate, except the power stone. so, the real infinity stones are out there, waiting for the wrath of thanosied and the dark watcher arc to begin.
Okay, evidently, the six stones were made at the beginning of time. They only wok in their own world. Which means that we get to choose where each stone is. In the MCU, they merged stones with other relics, like the Teseract, and the Eye of Agimoto. Maybe the green stone can be a part of Krypton, or a Green Lantern ring. Maybe the blue stone is the Black Diamond. We can choose where all six are and, after we do the few story lines we have lined up, we can... and I just came up with this... have Darkseid and Thanos race for the Stones. So yeah.

To be honest, I don't mind Thanoseid too much. He fits the role of the central villain all the heroes will team up against, and if we team up against him we can almost certainly handle him.
