"I will take the runt." A smooth, delicate voice stated, silencing the snickers, gossip, jeers and taunts. Teridax's eyes widened in shock.
"Are you sure, Zenila? You will not be given another apprentice until the next solstice." Which was 3,000 years away. The green and black woman nodded once, her beautiful figure glinting in the light. "We have a wide variety of other apprentices to choose from.." Teridax tried.
"I want the runt." Zenila stubbornly demanded.
"Zenila, think about this. You won't get another apprentice, which means you'll be alone with this one." Crystalia sneered at me, and I frowned.
In a single fluid movement, Zenila's hand was wrapped around Crystalia, lifting her up. Her eyes blazed like smoldering pits of fire, as she snarled. "I. Want. The. Runt." Around them, a few other makuta shifted, weapons pulled out. Icitox's axe was gleaming, but he gulped as Astrona's claws gripped Icitox's bicep sharply.
I was giddy. Makuta Zenila had accepted me, even when Makuta Toxica rejected me. I was to report to her quarters for instructions as soon as the convocation was over. Zenila put Crystalia down reluctantly, and the rest of the apprentices were assigned.
Zenila did not live in the barracks, but rather she dwelled in the Greenhouse, created by Teridax in an attempt to sate Zenila's urge to cover Destral in plants. He knew the others would destroy the plants, which would provoke Zenila, who would start a war.
Mata Nui she could take on the Brotherhood with her allies. I passed the vine curtain, gently parting it, taking care to keep it undamaged. I gently fed the vines beads of water, vitalizing them. A smooth voice interrupted me. "Good, you know to take care of the plants. That will be your primary task as my apprentice. Unlike Crystalia, who would've made you her assistant in that laboratory of hers, or messenger, you will learn an art here."
"You will learn to cultivate my babies. You will learn beauty." I smiled at her.
"When do we begin?"
~oOo~
You’re schedule begins when you desire, and ends once you complete it. Each day, or night, according to your preference, you will make a trip around my lovely Botanical Gardens, you will water whatever plants may need it, and you will revitalize any soil that demands it. You will make sure they get the sunlight they need, or in the case of my Lunar Gardens, the gentle moonlight they require, as well as accommodate that area’s darkness. You have the abilities to do most of it, but you require my blessing.”
I was shocked. She would bless me? “Of course I would. You cannot know the demands of the plants. Nor do you possess any psionic abilities.” She laid her lips against my forehead, the cool surface of the lips quickly retreating. My body tingled. “You can speak with me telepathically anywhere, and you can use a mild telekinesis. You can also speak with my children, they will submit to your will if you protect them.” It was a give and take, I figured.
“What is your name, my apprentice?” She finally asked, smiling. Her honey gold eyes twinkled.
“Innana.” I said, tilting my head in submission to her. She snapped.
“Raise your head, Innana!” Her cold hand gripped my face, jerking my head up. Her eyes were blazing, no longer twinkling. “You will not submit to anyone, except for I! Should any other Makuta...and I mean any other Makuta, dare to order you, defy them! You are not their apprentice. If they even dare to come to these gardens and order you, call upon my babies. Tell me, and Teridax will know.”
“What if Teridax does it?”
And the chilling final comment was, “Then he will pay dearly.”

I worked hard, and Zenila did not punish me. She was almost noble, she did not lash out for no reason. She would simply have me do my duties, then we would train for hours, until we slept.
It was a conference on Destral where it all went wrong.
~oOo~
Makuta Crystalia had called the conference, with eager glee. The Makuta slowly walked in, coming in clusters or teleporting. At the head of the table was Teridax, and to his right was Antroz, who was lazily polishing his kanohi. Next to Antroz was Krika, Vamprah, Icarax, Gorast, Bitil, Mutran, Crystalia herself, Chirox, Icitox, Flamiox, Vulkaine, Astrona, Toxica, Zenila, Jellica, Zeytran, Inharax, Karunax, Lohraz, Insorz, Intor, Fearack, Grekk, Tazzuk himself, and then Teridax.
“Why have you called this convocation, Crystalia?” Toxica shouted.
“I have an excellent plan.” She giggled to herself afterwards, Toxica bristling. That was creepy! I didn’t really care that I was the only apprentice present, aside from Astarte, who was Astrona’s assistant, and my sister.
“I was in the middle of feeding my Sunflowers.”
“I created something new. It’s not a Rahi, and it’s not a Plant...but this!” Crystalia unveiled a weird, rahi shaped creature. Bits of plants clung to it’s skin like the sun clings to the day, as the rahi meowed. “I call it an Ahni.”
“It’s gross.” I commented blatantly, the rahi mewling. Several others snickered, Inharax cackling in insane mirth. Crystalia rolled her eyes, pointing a finger at me, and ice grew to my armor quickly.
“Stop it, Crystalia.” Astrona tried. She knew it would end badly. The Ahni purred, walking up to Astrona, and sitting upon her lap. Astrona began to coo gently to it. Crystalia’s eyes narrowed at my perceived disrespect, and I began to mutter.
“I can’t feel my arms..” I muttered drearily. Zenila stood up. “Stop it, Crystalia.”
“Why? The runt disrespected me.” She insisted, my arms growing heavy.
“Stop it.” Zenila insisted. “He is my apprentice, and if you kill him,” I thought perhaps she cared about my wellbeing. “I will end your own apprentice.” She finished.
“Don’t even think about it, Zenila.” Crystalia threatened.
“Enough!” Icarax boomed, shadows lashing at Crystalia. Icitox hacked one of the shadows, supporting his mistress.
Zenila tutted in distaste, and I gulped. What would she do? Plants grew around Crystalia, crushing her armor quickly, the razor blade thorns digging into her armor. Crystalia could not directly oppose Zenila. Not anymore.
“Enough, Zenila.” Icarax growled lowly. My mistress did not stop though, as I slowly regained feeling in my arms. A blade burrowed itself in one of the vines, and I let out a scream, along with Zenila, the pain of the vine being our own.
Two plants whipped around and restrained Icarax, Toxica leaping up and holding a blade to Icarax. “Don’t move.” She threatened lowly. “Or pretty boy here gets it!” She snarled, gesturing derisively to Icarax. Jellica used her Hydro-Hands to restrain Inharax. Helios held a flame to Karunax, Selene's Diamond Form glistening. Makaria and Melinoe also were near Karunax, one holding her scythe to his arm, the other with a new, weird gun. Insorz took her staff out, slamming it near Lohraz, her eyes glittering in malice.
“You did not have the right to threaten my apprentice, Crystalia.” Zenila said monotonously.
“The whelp disrespected me!”
“Boo hoo. You’re ego got scratched,” the plant maiden drawled. “Suck it up. You had no right to attack my apprentice. You have attacked and threatened me, by attacking and threatening my apprentice. You have disrespected and insulted me.” Zenila said coldly, the room quietened. The tension grew thicker.
One does simply not insult Zenila.
Teridax stood from his throne, tutting in distaste. "Enough of this! Toxica! Release Icarax this instant! Insorz, stand down!" He roared, the shadows of the room writhing in anger. "Jellica, do not force my hand!" Teridax grew weary. He may have to put some of these rebels down soon.
A shame. He had great plans for the femmes.
Great plans indeed.
