Yeah I thought of that when writing it. ( even though I had this sence planned like almost a year ago. ) What better way to bond characters then making them train against each other?
Probably one of the best ways to get two characters to know each other; pit 'em against each other.
Even though the concept of grabing someone or escaping someone who grabbed you was serious, Lisa and Jadyn were playful about it and made it actually quite fun. There was a few times Sensei had to tell them to focus though. Like when they started to just talk about more advanced holds and escapes and forgot about what they were really supposed to be doing, or when Lisa said Jadyn and Zephyr weren't going hard enough on each other which somehow in the end resalited in a playful sand throwing war of everyone versus everyone. Once the sun started to set Sensei had them hike back to the dojo and once there explained his plans for the next day. In her free time that night, Zephyr worked on the skills she felt needed work.
The third day was like the second and first in many ways, yet fresh in its own way. Sensei had them do archary in front of the dojo. Zephyr picked up holding the bow pretty quickly, but actually learning to aim was much harder. The sun shown on the metal arrow as it few to the target. Unfortunately though, it only landed on the outer side of the target. Zephyr was at least glad it had actually hit the target, unlike half the arrows she'd fired so far. On her left Lisa fired a perfectly aimed arrow that landed with thonk in center of her target. Lisa smiled and turned to Zephyr shrugging and saying. " Practice?"Zephyr grinned, she could tell Lisa was trying to do her best without showing off to much. She couldn't exactly tell how Jadyn was doing from here, but she wished she could. The rest of the day they went over stuff they had the previous two days.
The following days involved more and more training. Zephyr eventually started making it a goal to be up before Lisa woke her up and schemed a plan to wake up early enough to wake Lisa up. Which didn't actually work when she tried it, bringing Zephyr to wonder if Lisa ever truly slept and was actually starting to believe Lisa actually could be a nindroid. Zephyr could do the warm ups on her own now, but that didn't stop Jadyn ,and Lisa most of the time, from joining her.
" But you should all be fine, you have pently of food, I made a schedule for you to follow, and if I'm gone for more then three weeks I've got a list of emergency numbers- only use Dareth as a last resort. Just don't have any parties, don't do any realm travel, and if something happens to me, don't try to rescue me unless you have a sensible plan that you thought though first." Sensei finished. " Yeah wel'l be fine guys, no pressure. " Said Lisa hoping that would help. "Yeah... No pressure at all..." Said Zephyr though nervous gritted teeth.
The next day Sensei left early in the morning, Lisa, Jadyn and Zephyr did training for about half the day before they came to a break time Sensei gave them. Lisa decided to suggest that they hang out so they could all get to know each other better before the new student arrived. Neither Zephyr or Jadyn were very talkative today so she decided to bring up a topic that related to all of them. "So, who wants to talk about our elemental powers? " she asked cheerfully. Zephyr had suddenly taken interest in the wall closest to her, putting all her attention into the shapes on the wood. And Jadyn was starring at the floor, not focusing on anything really. Both were pretending like she hadn't said anything. Slightly aonyed, Lisa asked again. " Want to talk about elemental powers? " "No thanks. " Said Zephyr. "Yeah no thanks. "added Jadyn. "You guys have to be comfortable talking about your elements if you're ever going to unlock them. I'm obviously going to have the element of ice, and I will say that without shame. It is my lot in life, what are your's" Lisa tried to say it in way that she hoped would make them understand how important this was. " Ok fine Lisa," Jadyn said in defeated tone. " I'm going to be next elemental master of fire. " He said as calmly as he could. "Wait, that means you two are related to- " Zephyr's face brightened as she connected the dots "Wow. Awesome." Jadyn grinned at the positive reaction from Zephyr. Lisa was glad everyone was relaxed now, and her plan was working. "And you Zephyr?" Lisa asked. Zephyr hesitated, frowning a bit. Lisa could tell she was conflicted. By what, she didn't know.
" It's complicated. " Answered Zephyr carefully. "But if your going to find out eventually anyway, what choice do I have?" "What are you afraid will happen if you tell us Zephyr? Asked Lisa carefully. "I don't know that I can trust you with who I am. " Zephyr answered almost coldly, but Lisa could tell it hurt her to say it. " We won't ask any questions if you don't want us to. " Said Jadyn. Says the person who didn't want to talk about elemental powers a moment ago. Thought Lisa . Zephyr glanced at Jadyn when he spoke and sighed. "Fine." She took a deep breath and said "It could possibly be... Gravity."
Zephyr was shocked at words that had come out of her own mouth. Sure she knew it was likely she didn't have the element, but as she had been training and after thinking about the dream of the previous masters she realized it was actually more likely then she had previously thought. But why did she tell them?! She had been so cought up in the moment she hadn't thought of all the bad things that could happen. There was no taking it back now though... No matter though right? If those people ever tracked her down, she just wouldn't talk. Sure it could mean being smashed in future, but no big deal right? Um yes big deal! Very very big deal! Ugh, she knew she wasn't ready to leave Hiroshi's Labyrinth. "Zephyr relax, it's just us who know." Lisa said clamingly. Jadyn spoke up. " Look Zephyr, we don't know why you don't want to trust us, but you can least trust us with the information that you have something that we do as well." "Yeah and even though I do have a lot of questions, I'll let you keep the answers to yourself. Besides, it doesn't reveal that much about you, you could have gotten your element from anywhere." added Lisa. " I don't know for sure though... " Said Zephyr. " Maybe I can look it up. " offered Lisa.
Well it's obviously gravity from the way she can just fall down a huge waterfall.
She did that without help from her powers, she knew how to fall right and she's a good swimmer. Falling from the treehouse elevator on the other hand, yeah. Either way though, it's not like there's any hints whatsoever in the story name or anything.
That night Lisa was up late looking through her books. Hmm gravity master, let's see. Thought Lisa. She found what she was looking for in a recent book on elemental masters and their elements. "Here we are. " It read: Gravity
Last known master: Gravis Status: inactive/unknown Status of last known master: smashed Color: unknown/none Last known Location of last known master: unknown/none Next possible master could be: unknown/none < Past masters: Gravis, Genarel,Ginny, Kestrel, William, Fred, Lilly, Kim, Jack, Chang, Misty, Fill, Mary, Adrien, Paril, Link, Saria, and many unknown masters. Master's abilities: Can create and control gravitational fields. Make things and people light, heavy, float, etc. Can make themselves levitate, float, move though the air. Can climb on walls, ceiling, etc. And perhaps more.
Then there was pictures of past masters and some side notes about what gravity masters have done in the past. Not much information here, considering Gravis smashed twenty years ago. Zephyr might be interested in seeing all this though. Thought Lisa. She marked the page with a bookmark, checked on Luma, turned out the light and went to bed.
Ooh, Kestrel!
I thought you'd find that Easter egg. No story relevance or anything, just thought I'd add her to list since her element is also gravity.
The next day Lisa showed Zephyr a page in a book about elemental powers, it was about gravity. Zephyr was interested right away, she sat studying it for half an hour, she had no idea gravity masters could do so much. They went over training for the day and then in the evening was break time. Lisa went to her room to draw in peace. Nearly the the second she closed the door Jadyn asked, "Want to spar?" "Sure. " Zephyr had been shown how to spar by Sensei a couple days ago, so she knew how to do it. "Great, let's get some gear on and we can begin. " He said charmingly. Zephyr choose some blue sparring gear, she put on the soft padded body armor and helmet. Then she put on the gloves and foot guards. Jadyn had chosen red sparring gear, his red hair stuck out from under his helmet and he was grinning. " You like rock music? " he asked. Zephyr shrugged. "Guess we'll find out then. " He said turning on the radio. The music sounded pretty cool, energizing. They both put their mouth guards on and got into position. "Ready?" Asked Jadyn. "Yeah. " replied Zephyr. They bowed to each other like Sensei showed them to and then got into ready fighting positions. Jadyn throwed a light kick first and Zephyr blocked it with her arm. She knew she'd never be able to do that in a real fight and was glad when Jadyn didn't point that out. Zephyr then punched at Jadyn and he dodged it effortlessly. Then Jadyn did a gab and punch, Zephyr blocked it and returned it with a kick that actually made contact with his armor. "Nice. " Jadyn breathed before delivering a kick of his own which also reached it's target. " You too. " Said Zephyr as she staggered back a bit, but regained her balance as quick as she could manage.
Now now now, don't be charming like that yet.
I find your responses like this highly amusing and inspirational.
Suddenly Lisa peeked out of her room and shouted "Jadyn are you playing rock music on the radio again?! It's interfering with the inspirational music I was drawing too! And I- wait, oh, sorry Zephyr I thought it was just Jadyn. Really. Um I guess I'll just use headphones." "We could turn it down a notch if you'd like. " Said Jadyn. "That would be great." replied Lisa as she slipped back into her room. Zephyr starred at the door for a moment before Jadyn said " She'll be fine, it's nothing prsonal if we interfere with each other's choice of music. Just slightly annoying. " Jadyn turned the radio down a bit and they returned to sparring. After about an hour of sparring they were wore out and sweaty, the floor wet from it. Zephyr had learned to enjoy the smell of sweat in the past days, it was a sign of working hard. Jadyn turned off the music and they removed their sparring gear.
I think I'd rather listen to inspirational music like hymns.
Nice. I think I listen to more rock. But I also listen to other stuff, along with what I would call inspirational music. ( although most of that would fall under the category of soundtracks. )
As they did so Zephyr asked "How long do you think Sensei will be gone? " "I'm not sure, he was gone for about a week when went to find you. " He replied removing his foot guards. "Ok. " Zephyr took off her helmet, her hair was now a bit of a mess. "It was strange when he went to find you though, he got up in the middle of the night and told us he was going to Donahue. He said he hoped he'd find his next student there, and he did. " Jadyn also removed his helmet, his red hair was now a sort of mess, but Zephyr thought it looked nice. "The only reason I went to Donahue was because I heard he was looking for students. " Said Zephyr removing the last of her gear. "Really? " asked Jadyn putting the gear away. "Yeah. " replied Zephyr as she push some stray blonde and blue hair out of her face. "Wow. Then that means... Sensei knew you'd come, or it was a really lucky chance. " " Maybe both?" Zephyr shrugged. "Yeah maybe. Anyway though, Sensei could be back tomorrow or gone for two weeks. It's really hard to say. I-I just hope he's safe, along with-" Jadyn said as he closed the box that held the sparring gear. Zephyr waited for him to finish what he was saying. He finally glanced at her and said " My father, mother and the rest of the ninja. " "They'll be ok, they're ninja right?" said Zephyr. Jadyn grinned, " Yeah, of course. "
So Ninjago isn't as protected now, is it? Because the ninja don't have their powers and the children don't yet either.
Yeah it's not as safe as it once was. Almost, it's sort of complicated. I'll try to explain it in an upcoming part.
The next day early in morning something strange happened. They were warming up as usual when a folded piece of paper flew through a portal hole that disappeared a second after it had appeared. Zephyr glared at spot it had appeared, highly paranoid. Jadyn picked the piece of paper off the off the floor, he unfolded it and read it. " It's from Sensei. " He read it in his mind some more then said " He should be here around midday, he wants us to be ready." "Just like when I came? " asked Zephyr. "Exactly. " He replied. The three of them put together a plan, Jadyn would attack from the rafters again, and Lisa and Zephyr would each be attacking from either side of the the main door, hopefully in an attempt to catch the new student off guard by coming from behind them or from their side. They put on their black ninja hoods which matched their black ninja gis, turned out the light and closed anything that let in light. Then they waited. Then after what felt like an hour but couldn't have been more then ten minutes the door opened and figure stepped through it. Zephyr was nervous but exited, she held her breath waiting for Jadyn to make his move. He jumped like he did the night she arrived, she could actually see it this time though. Jadyn landed right in front of the figure making a battle stance. This was Lisa and Zephyr's chance. The two of them rushed forward and grabbed the person's arms forcing them to the floor. The person hadn't noticed them because of Jadyn, just like they planned. Zephyr could now see the person a little better now she was closer, he was male, but that was all she could tell.
Now sending a message through a flying piece of paper isn't always the best way of communication.
Moe reminded Zephyr of her cousin Grant in a lot of ways, especially so when later during their free time he asked "So, you guys have any games here? " "You mean like board games? " asked Lisa. "No I mean like video games." He responded. "Of course we do. " Said Jadyn walking over to the wall that could turn to reveal a TV. He turned the wall and turned on the TV, which was four or five times the size of the small one Zephyr's family had in the jungle. He turned on the system and asked Moe "Did you have anything in mind?" "What do you got?" Moe asked. Jadyn showed him the games. "This one looks cool." Said Moe holding up a game. Jadyn put the game in and got the controllers out as he asked " Do you two want to play too? " Zephyr nodded yes and Lisa said "Sure. " Jadyn handed them each controllers. Zephyr had not played this sort of video game before, she had only ever played hand held games and since she had been so busy training she hadn't played this one here yet. "How do we do this? I've only played hand held before. " Said Zephyr. " The controls are simalr to hand held, just pick your character and I'll show you how to do everything once we start." Said Jadyn. Zephyr choose a female character in a royal blue tunic. The others choose their characters and then they started the game. After it went though the story sences the game started them out on the first stage. Jadyn educated Zephyr and Moe on the controls then they started actually trying to beat the level. "Grab weapons and resources so we can use it later. " Said Jadyn. Suddenly enemies started coming out of nowhere, Zephyr made her character swing her sword at them, but since she wasn't fumillier with controls her character soon died a not so peaceful death before regenerating again. This happened a couple more times before as they played, but she got the hang of it as they went. Jumping from high places and over cliffs wasn't easy either and was also a common way her character met her demise. Finally they made it to a checkpoint and they saved their game for the night.
Hm. Interesting game.
We need F2F.
I kinda imagined it to be like a mixture of a Zelda game and a Mario game.
** As it turned out, Moe was from a farm several miles to the north and was the nephew of Griffin Turner. He was eager to have the other three show him around and made himself right at home when they showed him his own room.
Turner--! I knew that name sounded familiar the first time they said it, but the only character I could think of with that name was someone from "Pirates of the Caribbean".
