Chapter 6 Legacy of Gravity
Zephyr dragged her luggage up the steps and into Dareth's home. She set her things down in the main room and sat down in one of the chairs. To cheer herself up she read some comics for a couple hours. At lunch time, Dareth made a meal and called Zephyr and the ninja to come eat. They ate in silence, Zephyr and the ninja both lost in thought. Dareth ate quickly and left the table as soon as he could.
" Looks like you've already trained her, she's doing exactly what you are." Commented Dareth.
"What? Oh, har har." Replied the ninja amused. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful, and super was just about as quite as lunch.
Later as the sun was setting, the ninja came into the main room and said
"Gather your things Zephyr, we're leaving as soon as it gets dark."
"Ok." Zephyr didn't ask any questions, but she did wonder why he'd want to travel under the cover of the night.
"Oh and you can call me sensei."
"Alright." Said Zephyr ,
Once it got dark they said goodbye to Dareth and carrired their luggage with them out into the night. Sensei had two bags and Zephyr had too large suitcases and her backpack. They walked about an hour. Sensei explained that traveling at night would prevent unwanted rumours and people following them. Zephyr was all for the strategy. Sensei finally stopped and started digging into one of his bags. He pulled out something the size of a softball and turned to Zephyr
" I had better explain what I'm about to do. When I throw this a portal will appear. We only have a limited amount of time before it closes so don't hessatat. Make sure all your luggage is with you and that nothing is loose, you could lose it. "
"What?.." Zephyr was confused, he couldn't actually mean... Sensei threw the softball-like object at a large rock as tall as two humans nearby. A glowing, swirling opening appeared. A portal. Part of Zephyr was scared it my be a trap or possibly just dangerous in general. But the other part of her wanted to check it out.
It's just like in the comics, you've always wanted to go though one of these. Zephyr told herself. Well, what choice did she have?
"Zephyr you have to hurry up." It was sensei. She held tight to her bags and stepped through the portal. The only thing she could compare the feeling to was when she'd jump off the side of the waterfall. All she could see was nothing, but that's probably because she was closing her eyes. Then it was all over within seconds, she was now on the other side of portal. The landscape was different here, more hilly and green, although it was dark so it was to see the landscape completely. Sensei came through a moment after she did and the portal disappeared not long after that.
" Travelers tea, I use it when I need to. We saved ourselves from about week or more of travel I believe. My dojo is still about a day's travel away though. So get some sleep, we leave bright and early in morning. " Sensei said as he made himself comfortable on the ground. Zephyr pulled a blanket out of one of her bags and folded one of the sides over her like a sleeping bag and used her backpack for a pelow.
A wolf howl sounded as Zephyr followed a man in a turban. He was running from someone. He turned around fear on his face. The sence shifted and Zephyr saw the same man fighting in war surrounded by many other fighters. His feet suddenly lifted from the ground and he made two rocks lift up as well. He threw them at the enemies before him. The sence changed again the same man was there. A statue fell and was about to crush an entire army, but the man used his power to stop the statue from falling and move it to another spot. The sence changed, the same man was fighting against another man for a green blade. When the sence changed this time, she saw a different man, much older then the first. He was floating and shouted
"Charge!" Behind him a giant purple snake appeared, he saw it to late though.
SNAP.
The scene changed again, this time a lady was shown makeing water lillies float in mid air. The sence changed again and again and again. All showing different people using the same power. Finally it stopped on a very young man, he was taking a knee in front of someone Zephyr couldn't make out because of the bright sun behind him. Next to the young man was many other people doing the same, all looking up at the same person. Suddenly many colors of energy went from the person to everyone that was looking up at him, including the young man.
Zephyr woke up, it was twilight. Sensei was already up, his back twords her.
"Sensei, can I ask you a question?"
"You just asked one."
"Can I ask you another question?"
" You just did."
"You know what I mean." Said Zephyr, Sensei chuckled,
"Of course."
"What was the element called that could make stuff float in mid air and stuff? "
"You mean gravity."
"Yeah. Who was the last elemental master of gravity?"
"I think you already know the answer to that." Said Sensei turning around to face her. There was silence for a long moment until Sensei asked, " Well, who do you think it was?"
"Gravis, " the name sounded strange to her when said out loud like this. "But I'm not sure." Another short moment of silence.
" You are correct."
" Did you know him? Did you fight beside him?" asked Zephyr, she knew discussing Gravis was risky, but it seemed like a conversation anyone would have, and she wanted to know more.
"Yes, a few times, we fought besides each other in a couple battles at least."
"What happened to him exactly?"
"That's a good question. Sadly no one knows for sure. He went missing many years ago along with all his relatives. It's a shame, there's not even a decndent to carry on his legacy." He said shaking his head. Zephyr looked away so he couldn't read the emotions on her face. She'd known for years about Gravis, just hearing someone outside of the family be concerned about it was new to her. She wished she could tell him that Gravis' family was still alive out there, and that one of them could inherit his element, gravity.
Could I be the next gravity master? She thought. She'd better not get her hopes up though, she didn't want to be jealous if one of her siblings or cousins inharted it. Plus not to mention, if someone were to find out she had gravity they'd know who she was in a heartbeat and those dangerous people would be onto her in no time. But a voice in back of her head said.
But if I had gravity I could stop them.
She had to keep telling herself that the odds were against her on getting an element. Sensei dug into one his bags and pulled out some jerky,
" Here, have some of this. Then pack up, and we'll get moving." Zephyr did just that and they were on the road in no time. They mostly traveled a dirt path that went around and over the hilly country. The morning air was fresh and as the day wore on Zephyr found herself enjoying her peaceful surroundings. The day turned to evening and evening turned to night.
"We should be there soon." Said Sensei smiling.
The Dojo
He waited and watched the door from the rafters, waiting for them to arrive. He adjusted his hood and looked over at his fellow student who was also starring at the door intently from her perch. It was dark, the moon shown through the widow on the side of the dojo casting an eriee glow on the floor and walls. They had been waiting there for quite a awhile. Suddenly the sound of the door creeking open reached his ears. He gracefully jumped down from the rafters and quickly pushed his opponent to the floor. It was a girl, who looked about his own age. She had blonde hair in a ponytail, with blue streaks here and there. He met her gaze, the moon shown in her eyes, revealing a greenish tint to them. Fear, confusion and a hint of rage was written on her face. Suddenly he felt himself being thrown back by a tremendous force and realized she had just kicked out with both of her legs. He fell back into a sitting position, but quickly got up, which gave the girl enough time to regain her standing. His fellow student attacked next, grabbing the girl's arm and putting her in a hold, the girl dropped all her weight to floor making his fellow student loose her grip. The girl had made a mistake though, she may have been free from his teammate's grip, but now she could be easily pinned to the floor. Which is exactly what his fellow student went to do next. As she did so she glanced at him with a look that said from what he could tell. "don't just stand there, help me out!" He rushed foreword and helped his teammate pin her down. The girl fought it for awhile, but eventually stopped moving and gave up.
