When I first learned about this place I didn't see a site where refugees from the LMBs could hang out, I saw a place where we could rebound and eventually rebuild to our former glory and then become far greater than the LMBs ever were. Eventually we would have upgraded to a better forum software (preferably Discourse), added an actual gallery, and built a community that could last forever (a really long time!). With the community basically in full control of...well...the community, unlike the original LMBs which were controlled by LEGO, it seemed that this was all but a certain outcome. But of course, things didn't pan out that way because now this site is coming to an end and it seems like there is nothing we can do but accept it. Of course, the admins are working on another site, but it seems that the future of our community isn't as certain as I once thought it to be. I have come to realize something from all this: Hope doesn't just mean sailing a ship no matter how far away the shore is, hope means sailing that ship on a stormy sea and acknowledging that you might shipwreck somewhere in the stormy sea but at the same time not letting that stop you.
When I first learned about the LEGO Message Boards, I was thrilled because it was a place where I could chat with fellow LEGO fans. Of course, that wasn't the main reason why I was thrilled; you see, before coming to the LEGO Message Boards I had moved twice and any friends I had made before both of those times are now, for all intents and purposes, gone from my life forever which kinda discouraged me from trying to make more. With the LEGO Message Boards, I could access the place even if I moved with the same going for everybody else. But even if the LEGO Message Boards hadn't closed, that was never the case. People could still permanently leave the boards for whatever reason, even people I had a close personal bond with. Because of the LMBE, I really haven't allowed my self to acknowledge that fact even though the original LMBs along with most of its thousands of users, but now it's time I faced the facts. And even if none of that was true, the fact is that while I may have many friends in this community, you're all separated from be by a machine and the internet and all interactions here are based around text. While one day human social needs could be satisfied by that, today is not that day, so it's time that I straighten out my priorities and made some friends IRL.
Now, don't take this as me leaving because I will certainly be on the replacement site that MO and Co. are working on; it's just that I only have a year left of my childhood to make some meaningful memories (or recognize that maybe I already have) while the replacement site will most likely still be standing next summer. I will of course, still be there as I just said, but I won't be dedicating that much time to it for the next year unless I'm a mod, and even then most of my time will be dedicated to moderating your posts instead of actually posting myself.
Then again, who knows what the future may hold; for all we know, the success of DLU, a fan project to revive LEGO Universe, could result in LEGO rethinking their decision to close LU and result in them rebooting it or making an MMO of similar caliber, which of course would require a forum to discuss the game and thus lead to the creation of a brand new LEGO Message Boards. I wouldn't count on it, though.
Things are moving fast please check out this link though legomessage.boards.net/thread/1100/lmbe-shutting-vote LMBE will remain open with a vote taking place for the next day as to who gets to take over the admin account.

To be fair, the navigation bar still said that the LMBE's were ending while I was typing my post.
