The infantry remain working on the forifications, while all archers and siege engines advance to delay the elves and keep them far enough from the gate that work can continue. The Climbers head to the Redhorn Pass.
It's quite a large region, actually. The dale itself is small, but as this region borders Lorien, it includes almost as much land as the Golden Wood (half the length of the Silverlode).
Ok in that case IC:*The elves advance on the orcs*
OOC: Let me go figure out my troops.
IC: *1, 325 arrows, 13 massive slabs of stone, and 14 flaming ballista bolts strike them at the entrance of the dale. The orc archers are taking up positions against the mountain walls near the entrance, giving them more height while still being far from the gate.*

OOC: Because it prevents them from being smashed. OOC2: Wouldn't the elves have the longer range? IC: *The ballistae fire at the trebuchets destroying most, (if the area around them is rent apart, then they should be too.) * *The elven infintry fall back out of range, and the arrchers fire again smashing hundrad of orcs.*

OOC: I would like to explain several things about range in the Dimrill Dale. I did something that (I believe) is similar to what Shamrock is doing, where I scaled the cliff using climbing goblins and orcs, and then used the range to decimate enemies from a fairly safe position.
In addition, Range is decided on the type of bow, not the user. Heavy Archers and Grey Archers use similar bows to the Elves, merely made by Orcs, rather than Elves. This means their range is on par with the elves in range.
Tul Generas of the Orcs, Darthraxx of the dragon Knights. I RP, and have lots of fun.

OOC: Really? OOC2: Range is decided by the bow, not the archer. If they had a better bow, even a dwarf could outrange an elf. IC: *Trebuchet keep firing* (It's the area around the ballistae getting rent apart. Also, how many do you have?

OOC: yes. OOC2: And the Galadhrim elves have the best bows in middle earth.
IC: *Ballistae fire again smashing apart many of the Trebuchets left (71)*
*Arrchers fire again smashing tons of orcs*
OOC3: I feel like we are just doing Napoleonic stile warfare, we just line up and shoot and smash hundreds of each others troops.

In many ways power and range are the same thing. You have to remember that elven bows would have the stronger draw weight and therefor be more powerful and longer ranged, and they would be much bigger which allows them to shoot farther.
I don't think a orcish bow would have much more than a 60 pound draw weight. And as it is that could shoot maybe 100 meters. But an elven bow could have a draw weight of maybe 120+ pounds twice as powerful as an orcish bow. Now granted it doesn't all transfer into range, but an elven bow should have an range of 150-175 meters or about 500 feet. And before you say that the elves couldn't be accurate at that range listen to this. Elves where known to have exceptional eyesight and Legolas (in the books) could pick out about how many rohirrim there was from 10 miles away. So an elf could easily see a orc at 1/100th of that. They have also had years to practice archery and would vary skilled marksmen. Remember you are trying to say that the orcs are better than elven archers. Who are well knowen as the best archers in Middle Earth. Um no. If KitKat could varifary my points that would be great.
