Two days passed as I organized my plan, laying out all my possible escape routes and narrowing my entry point to a small port on the left portion of the building. I decided that the best time to perform my assault would be three o’clock in the evening when the guard shifts would just be about to change, ensuring tired security agents who want to go home. I worked overtime into the nights because my mind just wouldn’t stop thinking about Talitha. I knew my time was running out and that every wasted moment counted toward losing her.
A quiet knocking sound rapped at my door. I cautiously approached it and peered out the peep hole thingy. Joel stood waiting outside, swaying at the hips. I opened the door with a surprised expression, “Joel?”
A big grin spread over him, “Hallo, Nathaniel. You thought I was captured? Ha, no. Hydra could never catch me.”
“Well, you certainly had to leave in a hurry. All your gear was left.”
“I left my computers but removed all my hard drives. They got nothing but shells.”
I nodded, “Huh. Batman dropped by to get one of your computers. So hopefully there’s nothing he can recover.”
Joel’s face contorted with worry, but he quickly collected himself, “Hm, weird. Hey, are you gonna let me in or keep me out here in this humidity?”
I swung the door open for him and ushered him in, “Take a seat, make yourself comfortable.”
“I will,” he plopped his gear on my apartment kitchen counter and nosed his way over to my fridge. “Got any yogurt?”
“No.”
“Yes, you do.” He chuckled, pulling out my stock of peach yogurts.
“Leave those alone.”
“Ha ha, yeah sure. Day after never, pal.” The sound of a yogurt lid being ripped off followed his quip.
I smirked and continued drafting my schematics.
“So, what’re you working on? Well, I mean, obviously a plan, but where are you with it?”
I leaned back in my chair and pointed at the blueprints, “I’ve mapped out where I need to go in the building to reach her with the most success. Hopefully they haven’t moved her since you hacked their database.”
Joel nodded, “Yeah, they’ve probably found my entry signature so I’m sure they’ve changed some things. Like security codes or something but not prisoner locations.”
“She’s not a prisoner.”
“What do you mean? She’s not there of her own volition, is she?”
“No, nothing like that. I just mean they’re not just keeping her locked up and feeding her twice a day. I think—I think Ward is trying to scar her psychologically. He can’t hurt me, so he’s going to hurt her.”
“Ward? He’s Hydra? I thought the guy was too much of a goodie-two-shoes for that kinda work.”
“Yeah. He led a S.T.R.I.K.E. team infiltration on my science lab. I barely escaped. Then Hydra caught my family. I literally had my wife in my arms when the idiot driving the vehicle floored it into the side of the road.”
Joel’s face fell grimly, “That’s… very sad.”
“It is.” Snorting my tears back, I wiped my forehead and sat back up, “I can’t waste any time reminiscing.”
“Well, how long till you’re ready?”
“I think I can go now. I’m just double checking their systems to make sure they don’t have any surprise security features.”
“Great. Would it be alright if I hang back and monitor your progress?”
“As long as you stay focused and don’t get caught up in personal grievances.”
Joel gulped a spoonful of yogurt, “Yeah, of course. Just get off that computer, slip into your fancy suit, and let’s get this party started.”
“It’s not a party.” I countered seriously.
“Ha ha, right.”
I traded spots with Joel and headed to my room to outfit myself for my mission.

Especially Part 7! Ward is still tops, even if he's psycho. Actually, probably because he's psycho. And the comment at the end about the custody battle made me laugh, idk why. Just seems oddly fitting and yet out of place, I guess.
And peach yogurt is the best yogurt.
