Ronin used to be samurai, but then if something happened to their master, they chose to become a ronin rather than kill themselves.

Yeah, being a samurai seems like it was pretty dangerous if you wanted to be honorable.
Ronin could still do jobs though... just not the same jobs. Well, if you don't want to be trained from childhood, it'd be easier to be a samurai or ronin.
