Self-aware enough. Don't frame it as bravery in such a trivial matter lest you dilute what it means to be truely brave in your mind.
Who is a brave man if not one who admits his weakness
Not to get overly serious here, but there was a guy very close to my heart who would say the same. When others addressed his issues he'd explode and rant on about how he already knew he was the way he was. Somehow, some way he never thought that he could possibly change, or maybe he was afraid to exchange the familiar for the new man. He pushed away every one of his friends in such miserable displays. It was from him I learned that even a coward can admit his weakness. The mark of a brave man, then, is in confronting and conquering one's weaknesses.

I'm sure he was a great guy, if you cared so much about him. Although it sounds more like he was deflecting, rather than bringing forth the topic. Okay sure why not we could talk in code as well if you'd like...
Okay, nobody enter here without shoes on, don't want anyone's feet getting impaled with broken shards of the universe. *digs through janitor's closet and pulls out a broom*

*Looks down at bare koala feet and swallows hard* Um.... how big are the chances on that whole feet impalation thing?

He had potential to be great and he squandered it.

Whose talking in code?
I meant greatness not as extraordinary, but as a great person...how did he squander it though?
You with the accent thing, remember? That was whole reason we were having this conversation in the first place...
