No, but he wrote the music for JP. Michael Giacchino did JW. He's pretty awesome, too.
Michael Giacchino seems to be getting more popular because he wrote the music for Rouge One too.
I've been his loyal fan without knowing it ever since my childhood. He wrote the score for many Pixar movies, including The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, and more recently, Inside Out. I've been his knowing fan ever since JW and Inside Out. After that, I noticed he had done many other Pixar films. He's also worked on Star Trek.
And as you said, he did Rogue One. He also did Doctor Strange and is set to do Spider-Man: Homecoming too. I'm glad he's getting more attention lately.

Yes, quite. Star Trek music is good. Though James Horner is good too.
Today me and my cousin blasted some Florida Georgia Line in the car and sang along all my way to the hospital:D! Had a blast, so sad I am in Texas when they come to Boston:@.

His work on Rogue One was abysmal. It was just somewho isn't John Williams pretending to be John Williams, and I found that awful to listen to.

I had to look him up to find out who he was, and the only movies I've seen with his music are the Grinch and Land Before Time.
I assume Titanic and Avatar have spectacular scores, though, as they were all nominated for Best Original Music Score and Titanic won. (I really need to see those movies. )

Imo, he is the heir to John Williams, and when I found out Williams wasn't doing Rogue One, I actually thought Giacchino should do it, and was overjoyed when I found out he was. Obviously, he used a lot of Williams music, but that's because he was working on Star Wars and therefore had the rights. It was the same with Jurassic World. There wasn't any particularly memorable new music imo but it was good enough to amplify the emotion during the film, and that's the whole point of having music in a film.

James Horner composed several pieces for star trek too. Yeah Titanic is one of his best pieces.

Are they a band or something?
Not really a band. They are a country duo. You should check them out even if you don't like country, some of their music is popular among noncountry fans, like Cruise!
