Oh yeah, that can be annoying when you have two different layouts of keyboards, especially the ones near the Enter and \ keys, those seem to be the most rearranged keys.
Exactly, yes.
Yep. Also, are UK keyboards different from US keyboards? I think I heard somewhere that there may be a difference, but I thought it was universal at least among English speaking countries.

I think there are a few small differences, but nothing too big.

I see. I remember my friend was trying to set up a computer but he didn't know the keyboard was set to UK and he couldn't figure out why some keys were switched around.

I think there is like a ''£'' instead of a ''#'' on one of the keys, or something like that, and a few of our keys are in slightly different positions, compared to the US keyboard.
You can't be so sure. Language is very flexible, you see. I'm sure if I tried hard enough I could figure some other meaning out.
Well, seeing as I'm in my junior year now and on the verge of starting the whole applications process....you'd think I'd have a clue where I'd want to apply to, but that'd be wishful thinking. But yeah, I think I'll apply to as many places as humanly possible. One never knows where the best opportunity might be hiding. And that's nice, tell me how it goes! Seeing as I'm inexperienced with this whole process, is 15 schools a typical amount or do people normally not apply to that many?
Hopefully mines a good fun, too. I've had way too many bad dreams related to driving that they might as well end up becoming self-fulfilling prophecies at this point. And that's great to hear, tests suck. And the sheer audacity of the ones that cost money...
Well, put it this way, I never intentionally put deep meaning in my posts
ninjagogirl72 feels your pain she is applying this fall Honestly in high school I had no clue what I wanted to do with myself, I only figured it out after freshman year of university anyway... If you want to get into a top grad program, 10+ is fairly typical since most programs don't take a lot of applicants. Going to be like $1500+ in application fees For undergrad I also have no idea what's standard. Probably not 10+
I have weird dreams about driving sometimes. Now I just dream about forgetting my mask
Oh I remember NG, she was like one of the very few people who was actually relatively closer to my age on the MBs Honestly, whoever thought it was a good idea for teenagers to make a final decision on the remaining course of their lives, especially in an economy as...unhealthy as ours, really needs to reevaluate their own thought process
That's cool. Whatever schools accept me I hope they accept that 3 I got on my AP Euro exam for college credit because I did not endure that year-long torture for nothing
I don't dream about forgetting my mask, I actually do it. Well, almost anyway. Normally as I'm opening the door to go outside is when my accidental idealism vanishes and I realize.
I'm covered in the colors pulled apart at the seams~
oh what i would give to live in a time when "philosopher" was an actual job title
Oh, what I'd give to read that essay you mentioned. You'd be a great philosopher. =P
Thank youuuu, that means a lot. It's still in the works, and I'd give you a link when I'm done, but last I checked we're not allowed to do that on here sadly

I can definitely see what you mean about the whole thing with balance. That's the main source of the problem here, is that our society goes to extremes in terms of the support that the entertainment industry receives, and people either don't realize or are actually kind of content because it's a means of escapism from the horrors of the world. Either way, this particular aspect of it would be solved or at least reduced if we actually implemented some form of moderation in how we approach the consumption of entertainment.
And back to what I mentioned about the gladiator fights, even if the industry doesn't present entertainment quite at the same level of graphic and horrifying, much of it desensitizes consumers to horrible things. This might be an unpopular opinion but I feel like there's something so messed up about there being games, aimed at younger ages especially, whose very premises are dedicated to what is essentially murder and warfare, and it's seen as completely normal. Sure, one could argue that it's just a game and all, and one's conscious mind might fully well acknowledge that, but our subconscious minds on the other hand... The desensitization is administered subliminally. It's ironic since the Hunger Games, as beloved as it is, actually exaggerates this phenomena and warns against careless media consumption, particularly that with lots of violence, but it doesn't seem to be a very common takeaway from the series.
What's even more disturbing is that this is all aside from the things that we have practically no choice but to be exposed to, like the news and such. The events of the past few years have started to wear off on us to the extent that the same thing that would have put us in shock years ago has now become a common occurrence. And the sad thing is these are actual real life events that we can't ignore, otherwise we'll be circling all the way back to square one with escapism and the distraction of the entertainment industry and all of that fun stuff we already talked about.
All in all, it's really interesting to think about. I've been toying around with the idea of writing and publishing an article/essay on this very topic.
I see. That makes sense. It will definitely take a lot of thought to think of a solution for this, though I think most of it just comes down to education so that people are informed about reality.
That's an interesting look at The Hunger Games. It definitely is interesting when a series with these kinds of themes become incredibly popular, and maybe it's because they're so different from our reality that they're popular (or probably because of the romance in the story).
Oh yeah, I suppose with everyone having much better access to the internet these days, everyone will be looking at some kind of news or media that will influence how they think about these things, and it is quite unfortunate that in this year of 2020, so many bad things have happened to where people can think it's normal that bad things happen.
It definitely is a deep and important topic, especially this year. I suppose it would be worth thinking and researching about, and perhaps publishing it some way.
Yeah. One of the reasons I like dystopian fiction (or some of it, at least ), aside from a mere enjoyment of reading, is for the social criticism aspect. However, as well-intentioned as some authors might be, I think sometimes it's counterintuitive because in order to shock a desensitized person, you'd have to show them something much worse then they're used to seeing, and then theoretically it'll just keep going on and on until they're desensitized to everything. So, yeah, the main thing here would probably be to encourage people to educate themselves and remain vigilant. (Yeah, I suppose that might be a reason. I remember being indifferent to it when I was reading the series. I don't know, it's been a very long time since then. I haven't even finished Mockingjay in its entirety, because the first part of the book was moving too slowly and I lost interest. Perhaps I should give it another try. )
For sure. I write for an online student newspaper, so maybe I can bring it up with my editor.
Anyhow, it's been forever since I last logged on and that warrants some inquiry as to how you're doing. How've you been?

It's online for the first quarter, then what they're going to do with the remainder of the school year still remains tentative (though I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of it is online too) What about you?
How fuuun. I'm doing online college classes for my senior year through a university. xP Really exciting... kinda lol.
That sounds fun. What courses?

That makes sense. So your keyboards still have the US $ sign?

That's an interesting choice of literature. I remember reading one for my high school class. It is quite interesting how the worst case scenario could be enough to scare a person into thinking that their future will become like that if nothing changes. Agreed. More education and experience in all kinds of areas would help to let people get used to reality and how they can improve it. (Yeah. Ah, I see. I haven't even read the series yet since I'm not that good of a reader, so I've only seen the movies which was alright. Maybe reading the books would be helpful for both of us. )
Ooh, very nice. That'll be an interesting article to talk about. I hope it goes well.
I've been doing alright. I was watching a lot of anime recently, but now I've just returned to school so now it's busy again. How have you been?
