Chapter 133
It wasn’t long before they spotted the yellow dragon and its rider in the sky not far from the castle. Zargan took off towards them in a split second, determination etched into his scaly face. As they drew close, the enemy seemed to notice them. The enemy dragon charged. Zargan sped up. They collided. The yellow dragon made an attack, but Zargan fended it off and launched into an offensive of his own. They tumbled through the air, wrestling and roaring as the ground grew ever closer. At the last second, Zargan pulled up. The yellow dragon did not. Skrag thought he heard a crunch. Motioning to Zargan to move lower, he slid off the dragon’s back and landed on the ground to meet the enemy rider. He was a large man and would have been intimidating if he had been more muscular. His face was cruel, but fear shone behind his dark eyes and anger twisted his features. With a shout, the enemy rider charged at Skrag, greatsword held high. Skrag moved to the side and brought up his own blade, meeting the enemy’s with a clang. Once, twice, three times their blades clashed against each other, but the enemy rider was no match for Skrag, and he soon fell. Before he could get up, the tip of Skrag’s sword was at his throat and he dared not move for fear of being smashed. Instead, he laughed, “Are you going to smash me like your friend smashed Arrana and Sichasia? Don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about. You disgust me.”
Skrag frowned, “Hithrol is still recovering from his injuries. Besides, he would never do anything of the sort.”
“Who smashed them, then?” asked the enemy, “But it doesn’t matter anyway. You may have defeated us, but your army is still no match for ours. You will fall.”
Skrag looked over at the battlefield, not too far away. The enemy rider was right. They would need more than luck or skill to win now.

Chapter 134
Dancan crept carefully among the rubble. They needed to be careful not to be caught, or it would all be over. They had started with half a dozen elite soldiers, a small number for such a large mission. But speed and silence was the priority, not overwhelming strength and numbers. Twice, they had met enemy patrols. Those had been defeated, but their numbers had dwindled. Now it was just him and King Dernar. As they moved deeper into the castle, the fallen citizens and soldiers of the Falcon Kingdom became more frequent. They weren’t far now. With an almost silent gasp, Dancan recognized a face among the wreckage- Pterio, his friend and ally among the Falcons, was lost.
Dernar noticed his surprise and stopped, “Is something wrong?” His voice was barely a whisper, just enough for Dancan to hear.
He replied just as quietly, “No. we must keep-.” The arrow met its mark. The last of Dernar’s bodyguards fell.
The king turned around to see the person he had been looking for all this time, “Hello, brother. I suppose you’re going to smash me now?”
Kelrin lowered his bow with a laugh, “Not yet. I believe we have some business to conclude first.”
“Then let’s get to it. Why did you do it, Kelrin? Why did you smash Dakril and Kalrin? They were your family and you tossed them aside like so much trash!”
“One might say the same of you, brother. Do you not remember how you yourself cast me aside so many years ago?” Kelrin’s face turned sour, “But I understand you believe that was different. Very well, I will tell you the full story. Relish it, for as long as I take to tell it is as long as you have left to live.”
The battle was lost. Terra knew it, Raini knew it, and the rest of the soldiers knew it too. The despair was visible in their eyes as they fought a losing battle against a force far larger and more powerful. No matter what they did, the enemy soldiers kept coming. It was too much for them to handle. The siege had faltered, and then stopped completely as the enemy poured out of the gates to fight it out on the field around the castle. Soon they would be pushed all the way back to the tents and then it would be over. Everything would be lost. At least it was a good fight, a fight to remember, the perfect fight to be one’s last. Trumpets sounded and Terra felt fear strike her heart. This could only mean one thing- reinforcements were coming. They were strained as it was, and constantly retreating did not help. It was over. With this new influx of troops the enemy would crush them in half the time no matter how hard they fought. The shadow of defeat passed over Terra’s face. They were fighting for a hopeless cause, holding on as if there was any chance in the world that they could overcome it. Numbly, Terra fell to her knees, ignoring Raini’s desperate words of encouragement. She couldn’t do it anymore. The Mermian was vaguely aware of Raini standing over her, protecting her from the soldiers that kept coming, relentless and never-ending. And then it was over. The soldiers stopped coming and Terra opened her eyes. All around her were shouts of victory, but it was not the enemy who was cheering. The trumpets had not announced more black-armored soldiers, but instead knights of the Lion Kingdom and Elven warriors from the south. The reinforcements had arrived just in time. They had won. Through the crowd, Terra saw the one face she had missed more than anything- Skrag. He smiled as he walked over to her, though she could tell he was in pain, just as she was. For a long time they did not talk. Words were unnecessary after all they had been through. Just being there was enough, so they sat there and let their emotions wash out over their faces- tears of fear and despair, and of joy. The battle was over and they had won.

Chapter 136
Dernar listened closely as Kelrin began his story. After all these years it would be good to finally know the truth. “It started many years ago,” started Kelrin, “Shortly before father was smashed. You know I have always been interested in history, especially that of our kingdom. On this particular day, I was searching the library, as I often did, for an overlooked treasure, something new to read and explore. I happened across a large volume that recounted the history of War of the Three Kingdoms. I’m not sure you remember much about that- you were always more interested in hunting and sport than our lessons.”
Dernar had to smile at that, “Well, it eventually came back to bite me. It was hard to be king with none of the training that I should have gotten. But I do remember a little bit about that particular war. Please, continue.”
“Well, as you remember, the war took place between the Lion Kingdom and the elves, the Falcon Kingdom and the dwarves, and our Dragon Kingdom with the orcs and goblins. It was a long and horrible war, but it would have been worth it if our ancestors’ plans had come to fruition. Now, you may remember that towards the end of the war a large group assembled from all three kingdoms embarked on an expedition to find a new place to settle, as a way to escape the atrocities. This naturally made the three kingdoms reconsider the war and it soon came to a peaceful conclusion. What I learned in this book was that shortly before this happened there was a treaty being prepared that would have ceded the land of the Falcon Kingdom to us. It would have changed everything.”
The battle was lost. Terra knew it, Raini knew it, and the rest of the soldiers knew it too. The despair was visible in their eyes as they fought a losing battle against a force far larger and more powerful. No matter what they did, the enemy soldiers kept coming. so far I like it, and I started it today (and finished it) but I have one critic, there are far to many characters for me to keep track of, so I might want to suggest lessening the character amount.

Thanks for reading!
I've gotten that complaint before. There are a lot of characters. I'm afraid that won't be changing any time soon, as I've already written everything through Chapter 240, and the scope only gets bigger from here (until I reach Part Nine, and that will probably be around Chapter 260). If you get confused about characters, I suggest consulting the most recent Character List.

Chapter 137
“How?” asked Dernar with a frown.
Kelrin’s voice became more frantic, “You don’t understand? If this treaty had been signed our kingdom would have the power of two. We would have crushed the Lions! We would have been unstoppable! That’s why I had to become king. Dakril and Kalrin wouldn’t have understood. They had to be disposed of. I am the only one who can make this vision a reality! Join me, Dernar, and we will be unstoppable!”
“This was your brilliant plan?” asked Dernar, taking a step back, “For this you smashed Dakril and framed Kalrin? I’m sorry Exeter didn’t smash you when you had the chance. I’ll never join you and your insane plans!”
“So be it,” replied Kelrin, his expression as cold as ice, “If you won’t join me, you are worthless.” With a bloodcurdling cry, he leapt at Dernar, sword in hand. Back and forth they fought, blades clashing as dust fell around them. It wasn’t long before Kelrin had the clear advantage, “You’ve improved, brother, but not by much.” With a cry of pain, Dernar fell. Kelrin laughed, “If only you could have seen things my way. But there was never really any chance you would, nor that you would beat me for that matter.”
Dernar coughed. The world seemed to spin around him. Breathing was hard, “Your arrogance was always your downfall, Kelrin.” With his last breath, he struck one final blow, and Kelrin fell next to his brother.
Silence reigned for a long time in the dark room, until a black-haired man entered. He fell to his knees at the sight of Dernar, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. And I’m sorry I can’t take the crown. I know you wanted me to, but I can’t. I’m sorry.” Tears rolling down his face, Exeter carried the former king outside and laid him gently on the ground. He spent all that night digging the grave, and all the next day mourning. When all was done, he took the crown that had adorned Dernar’s head. It was forged in silver and gold and designed like a serpentine dragon wrapping around the wearer’s head. Carefully, he placed it on the grave, “Maybe somebody will take it someday. But that person will not be me. At least Kelrin’s gone for good. That’s something to be happy about. Goodbye Dernar. You were a better man than I ever will be.” The night set on the Falcon Castle, and all was quiet, and it was good.

Chapter 138
Time passed quickly in the aftermath of the battle. The Dragon Riders travelled far and wide to help those who had suffered in the fighting, but there was only so much they could do. The Lion Kingdom recovered quickly, along with the Dwarves and the Elves. Even the Goblins and Dragons of the mountains, who had lost so much, soon returned to a state resembling normalcy. But the Falcons were lost, their people destroyed, and as no new king stepped up to take the place of Dernar the Dragon Kingdom seemed to be headed in the same direction. Nonetheless, things were good. Skrag and Zargan felt an overall sense of contentment and happiness, more than they had in a long time. Hithrol and Olifin seemed more withdrawn than they had been before, but Terra said they should just give them some time. They had been through more than anyone else and recovery would not be quick.
One day, not long after Kelrin’s castle had been found and destroyed, Skrag was sitting alone in the shade of a tall oak tree when Terra approached them. For a while, they just sat there, as they had that one night many moons ago, when everything ended, but eventually Terra spoke, “I have to go away. I don’t know for how long, but I promise I will return.”
Skrag turned to her, confused, “What? Why?”
“Centuries ago, my people coexisted with another race,” explained Terra with a sigh, “We called them Falkrions, and just as we were the sea, they were the sky. Everyone thought they had been lost long ago, destroyed in a great war, but one of the books in Kelrin’s library seemed to hint otherwise.”
“So you’re going to head off on a fool’s errand with only a fraction of a hunch to go by?” asked Skrag, confusion now mixing with anger and sorrow.
Terra shook her head slowly, “If there is any chance that they are out there, I have to be the one to find them. But I won’t be alone. We’ve assembled a group. I will come back. I promise.”
As she walked away, Skrag called out, “And I promise I will be waiting for you when you do. Goodbye, Terra.” And then she was gone, disappearing over the horizon.

Chapter 139
Beziov appeared in the room with a flash of light and took his chair silently. Today was not a day for celebration. He listened as the Wanderer began to speak, “The war is over. Kelrin is gone. But it is still a dark day. Too many were lost. Many of you were among the fighters, and I applaud your bravery.” He paused for a moment and Beziov looked at the faces of those he spoke of- Lief, Didime, Didima, Petrion, and Vasilla. The Wanderer spoke up again, “Mystika, what do you think of this quest to find the Falkrions? What are the people of Atlantia saying?”
“Not much,” she replied, “Most of the Mermians support it, naturally, but the others don’t seem to know what to think. Most of them have never heard of the Falkrions before. But there is a more pressing matter. Lately, my visions haven’t been working properly. It’s as if they are being blocked somehow. Something is not right.
The Wanderer nodded, “I too have felt something amiss. We need to discover what it is before it is too late. Barkot, is there any news from the west?”
A black-haired orc turned to him, “Nothing. It is as silent as the east. But I will keep looking.”
“Good. In times like these we must be vigilant. That applies to all of us. Now, unless anyone else has news to bring to the table, this Council is dismissed.” One by one, the members stood up and disappeared in flashes of light- yellow, orange, green, white, gray, pink, blue, and purple- until only Beziov and Lief remained. The older man stood and looked over at Lief, “I heard what happened to your ‘Little Council’. It is a sad day, and not just for them.”
Lief nodded slowly, “They knew the risks, as did I. Really; I’m just surprised the Wanderer never discovered what we were doing.”
“You think he didn’t know?” laughed Beziov, “Of course he did. He just didn’t see any harm in it. Indeed, in the end it may have saved many lives.” Then he was gone, and Lief was left alone with his thoughts.

Chapter 140
In the depths of a shadowy cave, a red dragon roared furiously, breathing a massive jet of fire around the room. “I need my revenge! I have waited too long!”
Slowly, a black figure- no more than a shadow with two green, glowing eyes- approached him, “Calm yourself, Marrzak. I desire revenge as much as you do, but we must be patient. It is not long until the Well will return, and that is when we must make our move. If we time this right, we will have unlimited power and our revenge in one fell swoop.”
“You are right, Morath,” sighed Marrzak, stopping the flame, “We will wait, and our revenge will be all the sweeter for it. You may go now. My rage has subsided.” As Morath left, he turned to a corner of the cave, “Alis, I know you’re there. You can come out now. I won’t hurt you. There is no need to be afraid.”
Alis stepped out from behind a large stalagmite, “I was not afraid, father.”
Marrzak smiled, “Of course not. You are never afraid. That’s how I raised you to be. And soon we will be able to leave this cave and take what is ours. You look forward to it, do you not?”
“Yes, father. It will be a wonderful day.”
“Come here, Alis,” said Marrzak, “I have something I must show you.” He led her over to a small opening in the cave wall, far too small for he himself to fit through. With one curved claw, he pointed inside, “I had Morath get something for you while he was gone. Take a look. I know you’ll love it.”
“Yes, father.” Alis walked down the rough, narrow path until she came to a small chamber. Sitting on the floor of the chamber, protected by a magical field, was a deep purple, almost black, dragon egg. She smiled, “Thank you father. I will use it well.”

Races (Author's Note, Part One)
I have listed these roughly in order of when a character belonging to this race is first seen, or, if no characters of this race have been seen, in order of when they have been mentioned. Unfortunately, when I consulted my notes, some of the information had been curiously obscured, so you'll have to make do with what I have until I figure out what happened.
-Goblins- See Goblins (Author’s Note).
-Dragons- See Dragons (Author’s Note).
-Humans- You know this one. The highest concentration of humans is in the east.
-Elves- Shorter and slimmer than humans, they have pointed ears and angular, often delicate, features. Elves are known for their agility and surprising strength, and for their wisdom, which may or may not be exaggerated, depending on who you ask. They live for many times the length of the human lifespan, but not forever. Elves often live in forests.
-Dwarves- Much shorter and stouter than humans, they have large features and almost all have beards. Dwarves are known for their strength and determination, and for their excellent craftsmanship, as well as for the very long names of their royalty. They are more private than elves, but most people see at least one in their lives. Dwarves often live in mountains.
-The Ancients- One of the oldest races in the world, the Ancients [Redacted]. Each [Redacted]. [Redacted], some of which still live today. After millennia of steadily increasing tensions, [Redacted]. Today, only two survive.
-Vampyre- One of the Ancient races, the Vampyre [Redacted]. The Vampyre are [Redacted]. They have [Redacted]. Their one notable ability is [Redacted]. However, very few of them actually use this ability because [Redacted].
-Giants- Two to three times as tall as humans, they resemble them for the most part, though they tend to have larger ears and noses and curlier hair. They are believed by many to be one of the Ancient races, but this has never been confirmed nor denied. Because of their large size, giants tend to have trouble with finer crafts, though this doesn’t necessarily mean they are uncivilized. Giants tend to be rather hostile towards outsiders, which has often been attributed to a history of hostility towards giants.
-The Other- The Other are a mysterious race [Redacted]. They spend the first parts of their lives as [Redacted]. When they are deemed worthy, they are [Redacted]. Once there, they [Redacted]. This generally means humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, and goblins. They live longer than [Redacted]. The mortal Other are led by [Redacted].

Races (Author's Note, Part Two)
-Lizardfolk- Lizardfolk are one of the Ancient races and live primarily in the desert. They are slightly larger than humans, covered in scales, and possess lizardlike heads. Their scales come in a variety of colors, mostly shades of green, brown, and gray. Lizardfolk are strong and tough, but often aggressive. Their numbers have begun to dwindle and this has caused them to pursue alliances with orcs.
-Orcs- Somewhat larger than humans, they have small tusks and green or tan skin. Orcs are considered less intelligent than humans (though this isn’t true) and are known for their strength and short tempers. Because their societies and reputations are similar to those of goblins, the two races have long been allies. More recently, orcs have begun to pursue alliances with the Lizardfolk due to their similarities.
-Lupine- The Lupine are humanoids with woflike fur, heads, and legs. They are more savage than other races and this has caused them problems throughout their history. Like most of the Ancient races, the Lupine have dwindled, and today there are no known predominantly Lupine towns. They tend to fight among themselves more than other Ancient races and this has only exacerbated the problems.
-Mermians- Mermians are the most prosperous of the Ancient races, likely due to their ability to live underwater and their more peaceful lifestyle. Like most of the Ancient races, they are humanoid, but have fishlike scales, webbed fingers and toes, and hair that is more like thin tentacles than actual hair. Their scales are seen in a veritable rainbow of colors, from deep red to aquamarine. Most of the Mermians are concentrated in and around the City by the Sea, which they helped the humans to build, or on other coasts in smaller towns.
-Falkrions- Centuries ago, the Falkrions were [Redacted]. They haven’t been seen in this part of the world since. Falkrions are [Redacted]. They have [Redacted]. They are [Redacted] and are one of the Ancient races.
-Arachnidians- [Redacted], the Arachnidians are another of the Ancient races. Their lower bodies are [Redacted]. They are one of the most diverse species, [Redacted]. Many are [Redacted] but today [Redacted].
