Alpida sticks with him. Dubhan lags behind due to his injury.
Karthon engages, and fells three Xains before defending Dubhan.
"Dubhan, we need to get you out of this fight."
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me."
"You are not fine. No more protesting. I am going to get you out o here. Karthon, you keep holding the line." Alpida begins cutting her way out of the battle, practically dragging Dubhan behind her.

He realizes the numbers might be too much for him to handle alone. Perhaps he should fall back to the rest of the army.
My name is Dror. I am a Xain general of House Sparrow and I have been tasked with diplomatic negotiations. You may or may not be aware of this, but my people have recently taken possession of your Dragon Rider, Xavic, and his dragon. They are well, but remain imprisoned. Some time ago, I sent a letter to my friend Lexos, asking that General Corellus be released in exchange for Xavic. He has not yet replied and I fear the letter did not reach him. Since I sent that letter, we have also captured the leader of your Shadow Warriors, Valithor. The high command has agreed to modify the exchange terms to allow both of your allies to be released in exchange for our one. If you wish to make this exchange, have Corellus sent to the Tavern with no more than one score of soldiers. No Xain will interfere with your progress if you follow these terms, but be warned. If you send more than one score, I will know, and the prisoners will be smashed. If the war ends before the exchange is complete, the prisoners will be smashed. If I decide you have not been faithful to this agreement in any way, the prisoners will be smashed. I like to think myself a patient man, but if you value the lives of your allies at all, do not test me.
Sincerely, General Dror
*As he reaches the medical tent, he asks for the leaders in the camp be summoned, as an urgent message has been seen.*
*The most senior person present is Galdan, the Captains of the Warriors of the Northern Sun.*
"What now Gidie?" Drake asks "Do we stay to fight or run?"
"We wait. There might be more people inside the castle. When the rest of the Dragon Knights return, we go up to the walls and send away everyone up there."

He stumbles after becoming pinned between three Xains
The Xains move into attack, but before they do there is a shout from across the battlefield. "I think this belongs to you!" Through the crowd, Karthon is able to see a Xain soldier holding up the limp form of a Kriatoma. "This man, or whatever he is, who called himself Lymach, was fool enough to challenge me, General Echain. He has paid the price. Now, who is next?"
"I am!" Alpida strides over to the man called Echain, leaving Dubhan behind. "I am Alpida Makrinorasi. I have beaten two of your fellow generals. I think it is time for a third."
Echain smiles. "We shall see." What happens next is obscured by the crowd.

He can't get anywhere because he is still surrounded by Xains. He hears an explosion, and then everything falls into chaos and he blacks out.
