Prologue
Upon hearing her screeching alarm, Nami Valentine wiped her aquamarine eyes, trying to get the warm summer sun out of her face. She noticed that she had somehow gotten some of her long black hair in her mouth, aiding her progression into a sour, groggy morning mood. From the other room, she could see (and hear) her little sister Luka in a colorful dress with her hair in twintails, yelling to go to the park. Nami was still tired, but she understood exactly what she was going to have to do. She put on her favorite outfit-white coat, short blue dress, black tights and black combat boots-and got ready to slog through the loudest and sugariest people in existence. Nami, our protagonist, figured today was going to be one of those days.
She was very wrong.
The day was wonderful, sunny and bright but not too hot. This was the kind of weather Nami loathed and Luka loved, since it’d always be the kind of day where she was contractually obligated to go outside. However, this day would evidently be different, since the second they got to the park, a woman in a vaguely green-and-brown turtleneck with a yellow briefcase and tidy, short brown hair approached the two. The woman said something that caught the girls’ attention-that she had been gathering Magica for an important upcoming event. “You know what Magica are, right? Honestly, with the school system today, I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t...”
“Of course,” butted in Luka, frankly insulted, “they’re the generations who were born with magical powers! And my mom says that we are...that thing, so ha!” On another note, the woman-named Dolores-was apparently an employee of the game company Infinitum Corps, which both girls idolized but didn’t notice until Dolores herself brought it up.
“We’re doing beta tests for our new game, Draco Landing, and we need more Magica to play. Are you willing to try out? It could be a bit buggy, but-“ Nami, usually stern and quiet, found herself shaking at the prospect of being the first to try a brand-new Infinitum game. Nami almost said yes before Luka did so on behalf of them both, and Dolores walked the girls to the Infinitum Store.

Chapter 1
Loud meowing noises resounded from every direction as the people in sweaters attempted to fix the mess that had materialized. Somehow, the girl had gotten into the walls of the basement. The girl was surely upset about something-but what could it be?
“Who was monitoring the room last night? Was it you? Did you fall asleep again and forget to keep your hand on the ‘Shirley’s gonna fall asleep’ lever?
“Why do you always have to put the blame on me, Jan? How am I supposed to monitor a room for 10 hours and not fall asleep? I say-“
“Quit trying to change the subject, Shirley! Now shut up and follow me,” January said in a commanding tone. Together they went onward to the monitor room and rolled the footage to get a better understanding of how and why a girl was in the walls. They at least learned to always put away ladders.
Of course, there are more important matters to discuss. On the upper layer of the Infinitum Store was a copy of the brand new VR game Draco Landing, in Dolores’ hands, waiting to be played. Nami and Luka were basically hypnotized, but they snapped out of their daze when they put on their headsets and were soon greeted by graphics that were higher quality than reality’s. They were also greeted by an unfriendly dragon.
“What is that thing? Am I supposed to talk to it or kill it?” Luka said, frankly terrified by the dragon.
“I think we have to shoot at it or something. It doesn’t seem eager to make friends-“ poor Nami got cut off by her sister’s screams as she was consumed by digital flame.
“WHY ARE YOU YELLING?” Dolores cried mockingly.
“Shut your noise hole, Dorothy-Anne,” Nami replied. She continued to wave her arms about. Dolores got smacked in the face while observing their progress and started making angered noises. She, however, was cut off by the loud, enraged screeching of a girl who was crawling through the vents.
“Oh god oh god oh god oh god,” chanted Dolores as she frantically darted around the small shop. All she found was a bunch of games that were probably a lot better by 2009 standards. Oh, wait, and also there was a screeching cat girl on the floor behind her.

Chapter 2
Dolores figured that since she wasn’t legally allowed to neutralize the Felani girl at her feet, she could at least speed up the recruitment process. She excused herself to the basement-just as the sisters excused themselves outside.
“What in the absolute flying heck was that,” was all that Luka had to say.
“Dunno,” replied Nami, “I guess we live in a day where anime falls from the sky.” The girls sat on the nearby bench, unbothered with the echoed screeching. After a couple minutes of repeated annoyance from Luka, Dolores finally exited the shop with the screeching girl from earlier now asleep.
“Follow me, girls. We’re gonna take a history lesson.”
They followed Dolores nervously, down the winding stairs and into the basement until they finally arrived at their destination and Nami nearly felt like collapsing. At their destination was a scratched up bed, a collection of masquerade masks, a projector...and nothing else of note, with the exception of a horribly made picture on the wall. It bugged all five (awake) people in the room to no end. Oh, did I mention there are two more people in the room? Dolores got the projector ready while the two other people went into the back room and talked in what was clearly trying and failing to be an indoor voice. On the projector was a DVD all about...dragons?
The DVD began with a brunette woman standing in front of a camera, wearing a gray jacket and a black mask. She talked about how “Magica are the key to humanity’s survival against the dragons” and “If the dragons win, Earth is doomed”-
“Exactly what is this, ma’am?” Luka asked Dolores in a suspecting tone.
“Don’t talk while a movie’s playing,” Dolores replied both smugly and sharply.
The woman on the DVD continued, “With this DVD you’ll find the key to one Caelum Limited Calliope Model Mecha. It is to be used exclusively for dragon hunting...” the woman continued.
“But what does she mean, ‘team’?” Nami asked, confused more than ever.
And Dolores replied, “Oh, you’ll be dragon hunting together with that cat girl. Don’t worry, she won’t bite-“ As she finished her sentence, the people in the back announced:
“There’s a dragon downtown! We need to get there quick!”

Chapter 3
Nami realized that she was probably going to witness something amazing.
Dolores nabbed all three girls an’ practically threw them into the Caelum Hypnovan outside, making sure that all of them were watching the Calliope Model nearby. The vermillion, dart-like, slick mecha rose from the ground. This sight was one thing that calmed the cat-eared girl, and she combed her lavender-and-mint streaked hair peacefully and adjusted her frilly white dress. Nami just listened to the noisy Calliope. Dolores soon got in the van and realized that the girls hadn’t been properly introduced to the elephant in the van.
“Oh! Just realized, you don’t know that girl’s name! Call her aramell,” Dolores cried over the mechanical noises. “She’s a Felani, like a Magia cat girl!” A flat “what” was all Nami had to give, and Dolores sighed. They were right behind the mecha until their path was blocked by something.
“OH GODS ITS HERE” was all Dolores could say as a behemoth, crimson dragon roared. Fortunately, the group’s worries were cut short by a heavy gunner who was also the woman on the DVD-same mask, hat, red dress and black stockings. This caused Dolores to go fangirl mode, cheering for the woman apparently called “Paladin de Platine”, or P2. Caramell watched as the woman dealt with the dragon, while Nami and Luka watched the mecha in the background tearing up a bed of blue flowers.
“What even are those flowers?” Luka asked Dolores.
“That’s toadsbane. Dragons carry its seeds, and where it spreads, no humans can live.”
“And that’s why we kill dragons?”
“Yes indeed!”
“Indeedy!” Luka watched the field of toadsbane get incinerated by the Calliope. Nami was paying more attention to the woman, who seemed to know Caramell-which wa s confirmed when the dragon dropped and P2 skipped merrily to the van to say hi.
“Hi! You call me P2, right? Oh, it’s the girls I got called about! You can call me Jeanne!” she said warmly. She handed Nami and Caramell her business cards. Dolores went in to give P2 a hug, but apparently she had better things to do, because she sprung out of sight like a bullet. P2 did note Nami, though.
Nami was surprised, as it was only 5 and her life had surely changed forever.

Chapter 4
The girls were soon dropped at the park by Dolores, who had full intention of sharing her footage of the epic battle earlier. That was just what she did before bidding a mildly salty “Arrivederci” to her soon coworker and leaving with Caramell.
Luka was feeling a rollercoaster of emotions while Nami had only two: excitement and dread. The excitement came from the prospect of fighting dragons with giant robots. The dread came from the prospect of fighting dragons with giant robots. She had a knot in her stomach that came either from that dread or not washing her hands after leaving Caelum and eating dinner. Despite this, Nami managed to get to sleep. The next morning, however, was complete chaos, beginning and ending with shouting.
It started with an angered phone call from Dolores, who was upset because apparently Nami had done something wrong. She checked her phone and voila-she had woken up 2 hours later than she was supposed to. She stumbled through the rest of the morning, still in a tired daze that rendered her sister’s dialogue unintelligible. What she did recognize was the fact that she needed to get to Caelum or she was going to die, probably, maybe, possibly. By the time she was actually at the store, Jeanne and Dolores-who were supposed to be there-had already left, and only the woman who the girls hadn’t properly met was remaining.
“Hey,” Shirley muttered. “Follow me. I was supposed to show you the controls of the mech and introduce you to Cantaloupe, and I suppose it isn’t quite too late.” The girls obliged, and Nami found out that the Calliope Model, from the inside, was insanely simple-almost like an arcade game, but if you lose this game, you die instead of losing fifty cents. Shirley explained the controls, but Luka was still confused as to what Cantaloupe was. All of a sudden, a colorful, round, wide-eyed ball with a face that looked vaguely like a rabbit in a tracksuit burst in, partially breaking the door.
“Shoot. Hey Canta, you weren’t supposed to arrive so early.”

Chapter 5:
“Hello! Who might it be? Why, it’s me, the interrupting Cantaloupe!”
Luka was terrified, but Nami was just surprised. This..thing had burst into the room in a similar fashion as it would if it were a wrecking ball or a walking, talking juice pitcher.
“This is Cantaloupe. He’s very important, I think. He’s your navigator. He knows all about what these dragon thingies be doin,” Shirley muttered, just barely audible. She received a friendly pat on the back from Cantaloupe, and promptly left the room. “He’ll explain everything from now on. I’m tired, so I’m clocking out.” She did as she said, and the sisters were left in a room with a round, powerful sphere of a living object.
“Gee, you don’t seem eager to talk. Well, the controls are pretty simple. To put it in words both of you will understand, you move the stick in the direction you wanna go, and...” Cantaloupe continued for a good amount of time, and over that time Luka became slightly accustomed to the big, round, furry blue-and-beige thingamajig. That is, until its left arm popped off like magic and Canta popped it right back on as if nothing had happened at all. Nobody was quite sure what happened.
Nami Valentine, the polite lass that she is, simply asked, “What are you, Cantaloupe?” Cantaloupe didn’t seem bothered by this question, and replied:
“Well, the truth is...I don’t know what I am. He farthest back I can remember was when I woke up in a dumpster two blocks from here. I have no memories of eating, but I see people eating things like cake and sandwiches all the time. I have no memories of relatives, but you two are sisters, and...” Canta let out a sigh. Luka was bawling, but Nami just felt bad for the poor...thing. Canta felt the negative air and immediately offered to go out for frozen yogurt with the girls. Luka saw this as a golden opportunity to spend her sister’s money.
The next two hours were spent teaching a creature named Cantaloupe how to eat.
AN: No, I’m not dead. I hope y’all still want to see this, because from today, Magica Party is getting *frequent updates!* (yay!) I say frequent because they aren’t weekly or daily, but somewhere in between. I hope to see you soon!

Elsewhere, trouble stirred.
A girl by the name of Milady Cherry crawled through a tunnel of paper, carefully so as to make minimum sound. Her black coat and scarf did nothing to help for how inexplicably cold it was in the vent. She flinched as the paper burned away-leaving her unharmed, thankfully-to reveal her teacher, Ms. Moir.
“Ms. Moir, is the fire really neces-“
“Shush, Cherry! I have something to show you. And why did you show up so late?” Moir asked in her childlike voice, making a cutesy pose. “I thought you were an intruder, like Lillie or the police or somethin’.”
“Yes ma’am,” Milady responded, walking with Moir to a large machine looking something like a particle collider.
“See this, Cherry?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“This is going to summon a weird monster. I know you like weird monsters, so this machine is going to teach you quantum physics and biology! Isn’t that fun?”
“Indeed, ma’am.”
Ms. Moir pushed a button, and for 10 seconds Milady’s world was abstract, indescribable colors and shapes. It all felt as if she were having a seizure and traveling through a black hole simultaneously. She somehow didn’t drop her hat.
“Ms. Moir, did I just die?”
“No, Cherry. Something cooler happened!” Moir exclaimed, gazing at the behemoth in front of them. It was a remarkable creature, with long silver horns, wide white wings and claws that could carve a mountain cleanly in two. Both the people in the room gazed upon it as if it had descended from the heavens with free donuts.
“This, Milady Cherry, will be the solution to your problems if you help me train it over the next few weeks.” Milady’s face lit up almost literally, but by then it was time for her to depart. She said goodbye, and skipped out of the building excitedly. Her white hair shimmered in the moonlight, and by the time she got home it was already time to go to bed.
She gazed at the nearby Infinitum HQ with unfathomable anticipation. It was almost time.

The next day, Milady carried a bouquet of tall purple flowers to Ms. Moir’s building, as well as a wagon full of dog food. Her lavenderish-white hair shimmered in the summer sun, and she put one blossom in her hair. It was quite fabulous. You should’ve seen, she was so cute. Anyway, when she was walking, she noticed a giant crimson robot almost tumbling down her street, a sure sign a dragon was near. Usually the robots were more stable than this, so she figured someone new was piloting it. She took note of the police cars trailing behind the robot, as someone had filed a noise complaint. When she got to Ms. Moir’s door, she couldn’t be happier.
“And you’re early today, Milady! Ooh, flowers! And you brought some food for the monster, how polite!” Moir said, eager to start the day.
The day began with the monster’s awakening, carving out parts of the steel walls with its horns as it wasn’t accustomed to its environment. It was fed an hour after, as its thrashing could only be controlled by Moir’s hands. The rest of the day was spent making sure the monster didn’t destroy the basement it was in. At one point, Moir got curious and asked Milady, “What kind of flower is this?”
“Hibiscus cerritulus, but most people call it a witch rosemallow. I brought it here because the basement needs some sprucing up.”
“Aww, witch rosemallow? Now I can’t have visitors. It’s really cool, though! Thanks! Wait a second, shouldn’t we name the mons-“
