After what felt like hours of riding in a horribly uncomfortable position on the back of one of the posse’s horses, we finally halted. Benboy paused to look at our surroundings. The sun had sunk low in the sky, and was nearing the horizon.
“We should camp here.” Con said.
“Yeah, we can’t see the trail in this light.” I said, hoping to get off the horse soon.
Benboy nodded and dismounted, and led his horse to an enclosed spot in the low-lying hills. The others did the same. The moment everyone was in the small enclosed clearing, Benboy walked up to me and roughly hauled me off of the horse. I landed on the ground on my feet, and lost balance. I toppled over and hit the ground, and lay there awkwardly. The clearing was silent for a moment as the sun sank lower. I looked around. Flash was eyeing the coffee pot with a slightly crazed look in his eyes. Brian stood silently, staring at the ground dully. Everyone awaited the sheriff’s orders, except Con, who was already busy setting up his spot to sleep. Finally, the sheriff stirred, and gave out a few orders. People started busying themselves with setting up camp. I sighed, and rolled over to a more comfortable position, and started planning my escape.

Chapter VIII
I’m no tracker, but I had the feeling we were close to Grubbs. And that’s why I had called for a halt. Delay the inevitable.
I know he’d do it. Benboy, that is. If we got ahold of Grubbs alive, he’d make me do it. I’d be the one with the blood on his hands. And he’d love it. Whether I refused to whether I didn’t, he stood to profit.
I hated it. But I couldn’t do anything about it.
Or could I?
There were two sides here. There was Grubbs. And then there was the Sheriff. I hated the sheriff. Did I hate Grubbs? Yes, I had said so when we last parted, but time heals all wounds. I’d rather take my chances with the outlaw than the law.
I was just about to get up and do a little recruiting, when a youthful face popped up next to my own. “Do you have a spare toothbrush? I forgot mine.”
“Ash!” I called, jumping. “What the bricks are you doing here?”
“Looking for a toothbrush. Hey, I’ll brush with a cactus if it comes down to it, but I’d rather not, you know…?” Ash shrugged expressively. “My mother always said to brush my teeth twice a day no matter what. That was normally followed by some vague threats.”
I screwed up my face. “She’s passed away, hasn’t she?”
“I’m still scared of her.” Ash flat-out admitted. “Anyways, have you got one or not? No? Maybe I’ll go ask Benboy…”
“I didn’t even bring one for myself.”
“I’ll see if he has two then.” Ash popped back out of my tent.
“Wait a minute!” I pulled myself out as well. “You tracked us all the way here?”
“Just followed the sound of Flash moaning.” Ash nodded towards the now-sated coffee zombie who was staring in a stupor at the fire, unable to neither sleep nor stay awake.
“You’re not supposed to be here! Benboy is going to be, like, mad.”
“Nah, he’s a cool dude. I’m sure he’ll be just real laidback about this, you know?”

“I’m taking cover.” I said, watching as he swaggered off to approach the sheriff, who was standing on a rise, talking to himself.
Brian appeared at my shoulder, and together we watched the kid approach the shadowy figure. A brief line spoken.
“YOU…WHAT…TOOTHBRUSH?” Benboy turned on him. “WHY I OUGHT TO!”
I winced.
“YOU MISBEGOTTEN KID OF A CACTUS! YOU TURN RIGHT BACK AROUND AND ESCORT YOURSELF HOME! I’M NOT RUNNING A DAYCARE HERE!” And with that he landed a boot in Ash’s backside and sent him tumbling back down the dune. He landed somewhere close to our feet.
“On second thought, he’s not a cool dude.” Ash moaned, rubbing himself ruefully.
“I knew that.” I said simply.
Ash stumbled away, but notably, not towards the horses. He’d be tucked away somewhere come morn.
That moment when you almost post a part to the wrong story.
Part of why I promised myself to only write one at a time. XD Lol, Benboy's insults are funny. Poor Ash, you're a nice guy and yet so kicked. D: Good work! : D

Yo, yo, yo yoyoyoyo, next chapter may take a while to come. Didn't have much time to write yesterday or the day before due to needing to pay attention to important stuff. Next chapter will hopefully be a solid chapter, and much longer than my usual.

I've tackled two to three before. More if you CONt previous co-write attempts, but they never lasted long.
