I'm still not sure if the cold I had was allergies or not, I'm really not clear on the difference.

Not sure, what's the symptoms for allergies?
Similar to cold, but cold usually include aches, shaking, hot/cold waves and rarely nausea. The main difference is that a cold is something you catch or come down with. Allergies are pretty consistent and can be traced back to a single root trigger that will (usually) always trigger you.
