Temptation thought long and hard at the question, yet he was speechless.
After a couple unsure glances at Joy, he realized he had no choice. He may have been able to escape giving out his poisoned cookies, escape being chained to his own cottage by his uncle, and escape being taken by his own colleagues, but this time there was no escape from answering Joy's question.
He lets out a small sigh, and answers, "I... I am Temptation, but I don't want to be Temptation any longer."
Joy gives a stern look at Temptation, processing every word he just said, then Temptation continues.
"If you no longer want to be with me, I understand. I'm the one who gives poisoned cookies, and I'm part of the organization that took your parents. I realize that all I've done is ruin people's lives, including yours and mine."
Joy interrupts, "What do you mean?"
"I don't know, I guess I still don't understand. I was tempted into joining the organization because they promised I could become better. They said that if I worked for them, they would give me anything I desire. I accepted the offer, and had lost myself to temptation and became temptation itself."
Joy asked, "How long did you say you did this for?"
"Ten years. I lived every day of those ten years tempting people with poisoned cookies and doing their deed. Inside me, I was broken, questioning every choice I made, and no one could see how I felt outside since I cover my face with this hood every day. It wasn't until I met you when I realized that perhaps there was something better."
"What about me?" Joy asked curiously.
"I don't know. Maybe it was your smile or something. You just seemed so... joyful when we met, and I hadn't seen the real joy like that for ten years. Despite all this, now you know that I'm Temptation and that I'm just nothing but trouble. I'm sorry for everything, for almost hurting you with my poisoned cookies, for getting you involved with people who would hurt you, and for being part of the organization that took your parents. I'm nothing but person who ruined your life. I don't deserve your forgiveness, and I don't deserve to matter to you."
Temptation was about to walk away, until Joy spoke.
"So. . . what's the plan?" Joy asks. Temptation--it was hard to think of himself as anything else but Temptation right now--had urged Joy for them to flee deeper into the forest, far away from the town. He knew Lord Fear's men, after their humiliating defeat, would not be long in reporting back to headquarters and getting more men to hunt them. They had to get away, that was one of the main things in his mind. The trails they were following that he knew led to wild hills lying east of the villages, where the land was coarse and untamed, difficult and dangerous for anyone following them to trek through. It would be difficult and dangerous for he and Joy, too, but he'd rather not think about that. It was noon now, judging by the position of the sun. After such a nerve-racking, exhausting morning, the two friends could only proceed through the dark trees at a walk. Where they were going exactly, Temptation didn't know. "I don't know," He admits. "You'don't know'?" Joy repeats, frowning with a note of incredulity--though not unkindly. "Aren't we going to get back at Lord Fear for hurting you, and find out what he's been doing with all these people you've been poisoning for him?" "We are, we are," He replies hastily. "It's just. . . we need to think about how we're going to do this. How we're going to take him down." "We'll find a way. We just need the right materials. The right weapons. The right plan."
Ah, I see. Do you think our story has more depth of characters than other stories you've read or had to write essays about?
I've read a lot of stories (no, seriously: a lot ), and I'd say this story less depth than some and more depth than many. All in all, I'd say we've got a good amount of depth working right now. :3
That's good. I guess it's just enough with a good balance.

"We'll definitely need the right plan." Temptation replied. "We're smarter and cleverer than them, but we're badly outnumbered. Lord Fear's lair is heavily guarded at every corner."
"How many people are part of this organization, exactly?" Joy asked. "Umm, a couple hundred, I think, including the handful of them are in remote locations like I was."
"A couple hundred? You'd think for an organization this large, the monarchy would've noticed and take them out with a legion of knights. How have you guys remained so hidden?" "Secrets and an extreme level of trust. These people may represent the entities of evil, but the only quality of good in them is their loyalty and dedication."
"And when you try to leave or break your loyalty to them, you get what happened to you, right?" "Exactly, and now they're probably after me. I can't survive out here much longer until we run out of hiding spots."
"Then you need a disguise and a new outfit. Do you wear anything else besides that dark robe?" "Not at all. The organization picked all my outfits for me in my closet."
"Well then, that's our first priority! We need to get you a disguise!" "But how will we cover my face? This scar will easily give my identity away."
"Hmm." Joy wonders as they continue walking. "I have an idea, but we'll have to get to the next town first. How long do you think you can last with your current outfit before the organization sends out people to hunt us down?"
"Maybe another day or two if we hide ourselves well."
Joy and Temptation continue to tread through the hills and terrain, following the paths that weren't used in a very long time. It was almost sunset, and they climbed their final hill. At the top, they found a bustling little village at the bottom that was just about to light candles to prepare for the night.
"Ah, here we are. Another village. Maybe we can find another inn to rest for the night." Temptation said. "Good idea." Joy replied. "We can find you a disguise tomorrow."
Sorry for the late part! It's been a bit busy at school preparing for final exams and the end of the year, but hopefully I'll have time to think about this story.

No, it's perfect! We're moving again, and we've both had time to contemplate where this might lead! No worries. :3

Awesome! I'm definitely very excited to see where we take this story.
