"What do you want?" Joy said as she faced her "lover".
"You know, just strolling along next to the chickens, and catching a little chicken flapping her wings." Greed said with a smooth voice.
"You saw that?!?" Said Joy as she cringed at her memory of her chicken imitation just a few minutes ago. "And don't call me a chicken!"
"Oh, I'm sorry. How about I call you.... mine." Greed said as he walked up closer to her with open arms about to grab her.
Joy looked to her left and her right. There was no way she could run in those directions and get past Greed. She looked behind her, the barn still standing high, but engulfed in tons of flames and smoke.
"Come here, Miss Joy..." Greed was about to grab her, but Joy evaded back and turned around now facing the burning barn. She took a look and said to herself, "I have no choice."
Joy dashed right back into the burning barn, putting her right arm over her nose and mouth to protect her breath. As she went into the doors, the door supports collapsed and fell in, eventually the roof caved in, and to Greed, it looked like she got caught in the flames.
But she wasn't caught in the flames. She continued to dash her way to the exit on the other side that faced Lord Fear's estate. She hopped over the burning haystacks, and dashed through collapsing shelves. As she raced to the exit, it collapsed and made a giant pile in front of her, with the flames burning nearly twice her height. Despite this, she leaped as high as she could, and somersaulted over the burning pile.
She landed on both of her feet and checked herself that she wasn't on fire. She looked back and saw a lonely Greed a burning barn away from her.
She turned forward away from the burning barn, but only to realize that a legion of Lord Fear's Men had surrounded the front of her.
"I hope the plan worked for Temptation." She said to herself.
The legion split into two halves and in the center another girl came forward. "Hello Joy. I can't wait to meet my future sister-in-law. You know, I'm quite... envious... of what you have going for you, to become my brother's wife and the new Empress of this kingdom after we take it."
Joy warily inspected the girl standing before her. Envy stood nearly a head taller than her, looking to be several years older. Long, greasy-looking black hair that contrasted sharply against her pale skin fell in perfectly straight locks around her face down to her shoulders. Despite her sneering words, Envy's expression seemed set permanently into a dark scowl; there was nothing particularly menacing about it, it simply looked like the face of a person who was having a bad day, or had not gotten something they'd wanted. As the two girls stared at one another, Joy felt a surge of anger rising within her. Greed and Envy: these were the two people who had led the raid to capture her parents. The dismal turn of events that had turned her young life upside down--though ultimately because of Lord Fear--had taken place because of them. She gripped the hilt of her sword hanging at her side. "Ah, ah, ah," Envy crooned--though still scowling gloomily--and gestures to the many dark-cloaked troops surrounding Joy. "That's not going to end well for either one of us. Dad wants you in prime condition, and I'll get in trouble if you get hurt." Joy gritted her teeth, but resisted the urge to lash out at Envy. She felt every eye of Lord Fear's troops trained on her, ready to take her out the second she made a wrong move. "Prime condition for what?" she asked, already knowing the answer. For once, a corner of Envy's mouth turned up. "Haven't you heard? There's going to be a wedding." "And what's a wedding without a bride?" Greed's voice broke in. Joy shivered when the young man walked up to her from around the burning barn; his dark silhouette stood out tall and menacing against the bright flames. He neared her--getting a little too close to her for comfort doing so--and chuckled. "Clever, running through the fire like that and making me believe you'd been crushed. But you're not getting away from me that easily, little hen." "Take her sword," Envy ordered the men around her. "Cuff her and take her to the main hall. Father will want to find out how his future daughter-in-law got here and why."
Oh boy, hopefully Temptation is having better luck.
That's a nice treat as well, although I haven't had any for a long time.
Agreed. Sometimes my grandma puts butterscotch and chocolate on rice crispies and those are really good too. Scotcharoos I think is what she calls them.
