"Are you sure?" Joy asked. "Yes, I'm sure. Once we leave, we'll split off." Temptation replied, but he noticed Joy's look wasn't exactly approving. "What is it?"
"I ... I ... " She stuttered for a moment while Mr. Peace and Ms. Love looked at each other a little puzzled.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. "OPEN UP! WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?" A guard at the other side of the door screamed. Temptation, in preparation for anyone getting in, put his hood and beard back on and yelled at the door, "Uh... The prisoners got a bad stomachache."
"Well hurry up and finish. I gotta go too!" The guard replied back.
Temptation turned to Joy and her parents. "We don't have time." He said as he passed Joy her beard. "Let's go". They got into their roles of being the guards of Joy's parents and opened the bathroom door.
The guard who was outside rushed in, frantically shoved the group out, and closed the door. A disguised Temptation and Joy led Joy's parents out of the prison hallways and back outside. The guard at the door eyed each of them as they walked out, but never questioned them. Eventually, they traveled far enough to where they couldn't be seen, and they removed their disguises.
"It's clear. The river should be in that direction." He said as he pointed. "I'm going to go and fix all of this. I'll see all of you tomorrow when everything is done." Temptation said as he was just about to run back, but Joy grabbed his arm before he could run.
"Wait, I just... I ..." Joy stuttered again. She took a few seconds to think, and decided. She opened her cloak, reached for her shortsword and gave it to Temptation. "Take this. You're going to need it."
"Thanks Joy. I promise I'll fix all of this." He took the shortsword, gave her one last hug, smiled at her parents, turned around, and ran back to the estate.
Joy looked at a disappearing Temptation in the distance, with tears in her eyes. She tried to hide them, but she couldn't hide them from her parents. "You love that boy, don't you?" Ms. Love asked. "Yes, yes I do. I may not know him completely, but I'm already scared of losing him." Joy said. "Then go with him. You both got this." said Mr. Peace with a smile.
I have no words, other than- The ship!!
Love the ship! Protect the ship! Nurture the ship!
Leading each and every chicken out of the barn took much longer than Joy would have liked. Still, the chickens seemed compliant enough, and within ten minutes or so they were all walking around in the woods; they seemed happy to no longer be cooped up, and clucked curiously around the trees. Once she was sure they were all clear of the area, Joy got to work. Taking the torch, she crept into the depths of the barn and stopped by some of the biggest haystacks to light them up. Orange flames quickly licked up the dry straw, and Joy's pulse began to race as she realized how quickly the fires were growing; thick, stinging smoke was already climbing up to the ceiling. In the dimness of the evening, the fires cast a haunting glow from the interior. I wonder how long it'll be 'till someone sees the fires. Joy licked her lips nervously as she slipped out the back door, knowing it was too risky to go by the front. Around the rear end of the barn were several old, disused pens, and by those pens were yet more haystacks--old and molding as they were. Joy began setting fire to those, as well, just for good measure. After a couple of minutes, she began to pick up an odd burnt smell; different from the burning straw, and it seemed to be closer to her than the other fires. Yet, when she looked around for the source, she could only see the small blazes among the haystacks. Still, the smell persisted, and she was beginning to feel a heated sensation against her face-- "My beard!" she shrieked. She ripped the disguise off her face, finding the ends of the curled hairs flaming, and flung it hastily to the ground, quickly stamping it out. When the blazes had died down, she peered at it distastefully. "Well," she muttered. "That could have ended badly." "Yes," a new voice startled her. "Yes, it could." Joy whirled around to see a hooded figure standing several feet behind her. The man pulled down his hood to reveal long, flowing blond hair and piercing blue eyes. He was tall and muscular, and had a handsome face. Yet, through his attractiveness, there was something malevolent in his gaze that left Joy feeling disturbed. "Hello, gorgeous," said Greed.
The beard!!!! XD Oh joy it's greed. Well let's see how this goes, I'm super excited to see this interaction.
I have a very special announcement to make. Today is the one year anniversary of Tales of Desires!
But wait a second, some of you are probably wondering why the topic creation date says "July 12, 2018". Well, allow me to share with you...
The adventure that started this adventure.
Once upon a May 26th, 2018, LordTigress and I were on Finding Friendships randomly talking about homeschoolers, and video games, and LEGO themes. We then got into a discussion where we picked sides of homeschoolers vs. hackers just as an idea to randomly roleplay with. Tigress picked the homeschooled team and she thought I would be on the homeschooled team as well, but I told her that I'd probably be on the hackers team since I'm studying computers and that I've never been homeschooled.
Tigress was surprised by my sneaky and traitorous act and she commented "DOUBLE-CROSSER!" I replied with "For me, it's treason then." Tigress commented "And I trusted you..."
And then I replied "Indeed you did. Darkness is very good at being invisible." And Tigress replied "It blends in the shadows, still and silent. . ."
And from then on, we just added more to that story in our conversations, starting with a simple poisoned cookie giver named Temptation and meeting Joy. Eventually, other users began to notice our story in FF, so we decided to move our story into its own topic and called it "Tales of Desires".
Tigress and I are continuously surprised by how this story started, how much depth it has, and of course, how much you guys love it. We thank you all of you for reading, whether you've seen its beginnings in FF or whether you found this story on its own, and we thank you for all of the fun replies and comments on our story parts that made you smile, laugh, cry, shocked, or made you sit on the edge of your seat. This story has been the highlight of our year, and we're so happy you can be a part of it!
Now to celebrate, who wants cookies?
Whoa! Awesome! I didn't know about the first part of the story.
Well happy ( late ) anniversary of Tales of Desires!
Yep! Now you know, especially how random it started off as.
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much you even made fan art of it back in the Artists Chat!
