Because they are RAY shields. They are a ray. Lasers beat bullets.
A quote from Wookieepedia(the official star wars wiki)
It functioned by deflecting or scattering energy beams. However, ray shields did not allow physical objects through them completely unscathed, imparting a deadly electric shock.
While it says completely unscathed, that does not mean it will block 100% of physical weapons. It is more a catch 22.
So they couldn’t tear my fleet in two with one shot then.
*Greeting are sent on all known frequencies, and the command ship opens a hangar up to allow the team entry.*
*The greetings receive an affirming response, and the shuttle docks; after some scans to ensure safety, the team disembarks onto the convoy ship*
*They find themselves in a small hangar. The doors close once the ship is within, and a ventilation system comes on, supplying fresh air. Ten men enter; three are clearly ambassadors, two junior diplomats, and five military uniforms. The lead ambassador speaks.*
"Greetings. I am Ambassador Vastorn of the Starlight Empire."
{JAMMERS! -Swaggy- ONLY!} Right. I'm starting negotiations with Cranfill. JJMazey and Tuvok I wouldn't ally with myself (I've had various minor disagreements with JJ, while Tuvok attacked one of my allies and I think is going to help in the attack on me) but I don't mind allying with someone allied with them. Do you want to ally?
{JAMMERS! -BP4J- ONLY!} The Starlight Empire is interested in engaging in a formal alliance with the Galaxy Squad. Before it proceeds, however, it wishes to know which empires the Galaxy Squad is already allied with.
{JAMMERS! -Sham- ONLY!} Currently, I am allies with Cranfill, JJMazey, and Tuvok. Although I have contingency plans should any of them go off the rails.
OOC: Let's do this out of jammers. *The Galaxy Squad ship sends a transmission, identifying itself as the U.S.S. Ymir, and informs you that it is heading their way. The star destroyer is pulled in by an a approaching vessel which the crew can only assume is the Ymir.*
OOC: What size is this ship? I doubt it could pull in a ship of this size.
IC: *The Super Star Destroyer fires upon the Ymir.
OOC: The Executor is measuresd in kilometers. Mine is measure in AU. IC: *The Ymir drops out of warp directly in front of the Star Destroyer. Scans estimate that is upwards of 21 billion kilometers in diameter, or roughly 1.1 billion times the length of the Executor. It begins firing on the enemy ship, doing incalculable damage.*
I couldn't think of w decent sig, so here's a pig: 🐷
But that was made after you had already abandoned the planet, leaving it open to claim. I null your destroying the planet because by that point it was not yours to destroy. It is mine now.

1 AU is the distance between Earth and our sun. You’re implying this is multiple AU, therefore I doubt you even had the space on your planet(s) to manufacture this.

To my knowledge, there aren't really any capital ships in any fiction that are constructed on planets--that's usually done in orbital shipyards (most capital ships can't even safely enter an atmosphere, let alone take off again, since that isn't their purpose).
PS: I think that at this point the Ymir is less of a ship in any conventional sense, and more of a mobile Dyson Sphere/Dyson Shell.
The United Fedaration Of Planets (Star Trek), I have the assets of the Galactic Empire (Star Wars) and IDK the rest.
I use what I know of star trek, some from star wars, and my own.
With the exception of my superweapon, which I made up, everything I use is either a real or hypothetical piece of technology scientists have worked on/theorized about in real life, and I even do my best to use their real names--some time on wikipedia will tell you basically everything there is to know about my technology (and let you learn as much random fun science-y things as I have researching them ).
"We wish we were from the homeland..." answers the officer, "We hail from a federation of lost colonies with long histories, administrated by the planet of Esomer."
"Well, we most cordially welcome you to Kepler-442. If you would be interested, we would like to invite you to Arcadia Station for an exchange of information, and possible diplomatic ties in the future" *uploads the coordinates of Arcadia Station, one of the stations in orbit of Kepler-442b*
Exactly; ray shields shield you from rays; saying they were made of them is absurd and totally not borne out by the source material.
Then what are they made of Mr. Physics Professor?
First of all, lose the attitude--it's not becoming, nor is it suitable for these message boards; we come here to have fun, not to deal with this.
Now then, to answer your question: As per Wookiepedia, the definitive source for anything Star Wars, in Legends or Canon, a ray shield is one of three types of deflector shield, and while it is only described as "energy fields," the fact that they almost exclusively "deflected or scattered energy (although sometimes they were not powerful enough to fully negate enemy fire)," while also "imparting a deadly electric shock," this would indicate some kind of electromagnetic field instead of a laser (which is a coherent beam of light amplified synthetically through radiation--laser does stand for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation").
While it would definitely be unwise to try to touch it directly (given what they do to Clones who get too close numerous times throughout The Clone Wars series, the fact that Particle Shields (deal with high-velocity and proton impacts) and Concussion Shields (repelling space debris and other large objects) exist as separate types of shielding indicates that you'll need a little bit more strategy than just "ray shields beat everything"--after all the Death Star reactor shaft was ray-shielded, and proton torpedoes got through just fine.
