These people weren’t the only ones that went for the Rock. Several bounty hunters came for it. There was one, who seemed to want it in someone’s name. He often spoke of “His Lord” and how he pledged to serve him. Made his compatriots curious.
Another one, he was after the money. But not just 5 million units. He wanted triple that. He felt that having him bring it to you was honour enough. If he got his hands on it, he would probably be smashed for his ego. No one would miss him.
Of course, these were not the only ones. But they weren’t as interesting.
They all arrived in the Arebazzi sector. They didn’t want to cause trouble, alert the Nova Corps to their presence. They wanted a quick in-and-out.
The Milano eventually came to the planet of Kosomani. It was a green world, contrary to many now outdated reports describing it as barren. The ship landed in a clearing in a lush jungle, filled to the brim with all manner of plant life. It was almost unnnatural how many plants there were. This did not phase Peter Quill, who stepped out of his ship confidently and went in the direction of some artificial structures.
Another ship landed near the landing site of the Milano. An oversized Necrocraft, piloted alone by Gamora, who strode out toward what appeared to be some kind of city. She walked through the streets, eventually coming towards a temple. Within there was several aliens, of a species unfamiliar to Gamora, who looked like they were praying. Outside approached a somewhat handsome man in a red jacket. He smiled at Gamora briefly before continuing inside. Gamora also entered.
There was a ritual going on. All these aliens were on their knees bowing down and chanting in their own language. Both Gamora and Peter Quill stared at the goings on. They both went closer, and saw the object of their worship. Some small rock. Odd, thought Peter. Gamora simply stared. Then, all of a sudden, a group of people in odd clothing walked in, brandishing both weirdly large and freakishly small weaponry. “Alright, hand us the rock thing.” Spoke one who looked to be the leader. The aliens were startled, and broke up. One of them went up to them and shouted in their own language. ”Excuse me, I do not speak Kree. Let me through.” He barged past the alien and grabbed the rock.
The bounty hunters reeled back in horror. One of them had just disappeared in a flash of light, right before their eyes. ”What?! Wha-wha-what was t-that?!” One of them screamed. The aliens were shocked, but noticeably less than the bounty hunters, as well as Peter and Gamora who were visibly shaken by this. One of the bounty hunters drew his semi-large gun and pointed it at the aliens. “What was that!? What happened to him!?” He demanded. An alien spoke something in it’s own language but the bounty hunters all drew their weapons and pointed them at the aliens.
Peter drew his two blasters and pointed them at the bounty hunters. Gamora drew her sword. “Let them go.” Peter ordered. The bounty hunters thought for a second, before turning their guns on Peter and Gamora. Suddenly, a small raccoon-like creature and an anthropomorphic tree entered the temple. The raccoon had a massive gun, and the tree was standing there, trying to look intimidating. ”Ok. Put your guns down. I’m here for the rock.” ordered the Raccoon.
The bounty hunters decided to fire. Peter and Gamora dove for cover, as did the Raccoon and tree. ”Who might you be?” Peter said to Gamora in a flirtatious voice. ”I am Gamora. Focus.” She said, almost deadpan. ”Nice to meet you Gamora. The name’s Quill, Peter Quill. But you might know me by my other name.” Peter replied suavely. ”What?” Gamora replied, occasionally taking shots at the bounty hunters with a pistol. ”Star-Lord.” Peter said dramatically as they both fired upon the bounty hunters.
Xandar was a peaceful world. Not too unlike planets such as Terra. Except, Terra has less foreign species. It was also home to the Nova Corps, a police force that basically kept order to the galaxy. To some, they were watchful protectors. To others, they were a nuisance. They often disrupted large criminal enterprises, which got on the nerve of most. Since the current Nova Prime’s appointment, they have spared no expense in hunting down bounty hunters.
Bounty hunters used to be almost everywhere. You could find one wherever you went, from Asgard to Knowhere. Since Nova Prime was appointed, they had become few and far between. They traced them through spies, arranged to meet in person for hiring, then apprehended them. Their method was so effective, no one could be trusted. Lengthy background checks were carried out by the hunters, except by the lazy one. Who, funnily enough, were always the ones who got caught.
Nova Prime sat in her office. She was behind her desk, while a large window looking out at Xandar was next to her. ”Nova Prime, we have a situation.” Denarian Dey was a trusted member of the Nova Corps. He reported directly to Nova Prime. “Yes, what is it?” Nova Prime said, looking remotely alarmed. ”We have a shooting on a small world in the Arebazzi sector.” Dey looked worried. He tapped a button on Nova Prime’s desk, which brought up a hologram of Kosomani. “Kosomani, home to the Kosomen. A small world. Used to be a barren wasteland, then sometime ago, it’s landscape changed dramatically.” ”Enough. Who is at the shooting?” Nova Prime sounded impatient. ”We don’t have enough info.” ”Send a squad.” ”Yes ma’am.” Dey waked quickly out of Prime’s office.
if you want to fully get into the universe, then here's a little reading order:
Mission: HYDRA by DatSpicyPorg is first chronologically. Batman '66 by Ciar08 was the first story written and takes place next. This GotG story takes place around the same time as The Chain of Souls (which is modern day). And then there's my story, The Chain of Souls, which is kind of complicated - the story itself is finished, but I am currently writing a ten-part serial (Avengers Assemble) that takes place between chapters 1 and 2.
it's really not a lot now, but altogether we have over ten more stories planned for Phase 1
