Really? Huh... well, if their line of reasoning is as old-fashioned as that, then you definitely need to get better advisors.
As far as that goes, it was generally about my desire to be able to defend myself, as I've always been told that girls are always weaker and whatnot at therefore need a guy to protect them. HA.
Hope you don't mind me jumping in like this. I've been sort of painfully reminded of this lately... ( I mean yours is more extreme than mine, but it's simalur in a way. ) I'm trying to become a part of a sort of " security team " thing for my church. All the people they have on the team so far are men, so I'll be the only girl. My dad is also on the team and he's been kinda showing me what to do. And it's only been brought up once or twice, but they ( my dad and the guy who runs the team ) mentioned some things they don't want me doing because of safety reasons. And I know they mean well, they are right to worry, it is still a painful reminder of how much more I need to learn in martial arts. So for now I just agree with them, because for now they are right. I can only hope one day I'll be trained enough that they won't have to worry and I'll be just as able to help out as much as anyone on the team. ( Although I could see myself trying something risky anyways in the right circumstances. XD )

Not at all Interesting. . . I hope everything goes well for you with that and learning martial arts. (Same. XD)

Awesome! Well, I love writing any kind of fantasy, and I recently finished my book! I’m working on querying agents right now, in the hopes of getting it published soon! I also love historical-based fantasy.
I'm going to just do something stupid by posting this (half) chapter of my science fantasy series. I'm doing this mostly just because I'm curious to see if it'll get accepted or not. It's not inappropriate content or anything, but like the mods on the old galleries wouldn't accept this in a million years so I'm curious to see if it will here. *shrugs* Whatever, here goes nothing.
* * * Soren stepped quietly through the firm, glittering snow, one foot directly in front of the other. Despite his heavy hood, the cold air bit the exposed skin of his face and Soren wished he had his helmet. He walked at the head of the two Templars, Kai and Talyn, who’d accompanied him. He stopped abruptly as a quick motion in the distance behind them caught his eye, and held up a fist to signal his companions to halt. Soren gazed out at the snowy forests, glaring into the distance in search of Embur. A frigid wind tousled his snow-white hair, causing his dark cloak to billow out behind him. Morning was nearly upon them, as the snowy darkness was faintly growing lighter. Tall, twisted trees stretched their barren fingers toward the dark gray sky. A dusting of snow still fell, but the storm from earlier that night had departed. In the distance, a short, blue figure could be seen among the trees. The werecat. Soren thought bitterly as he signaled to his companions to wait. After a moment, the werecat began to scamper into the dim forest, towards a couple other figures. Soren drew his plasma sword and silently signaled for attack. His Templars nodded eagerly and charged toward the small group, swords drawn. He allowed himself a smile of satisfaction at finding his prey and then advanced to the head of the group, leading the attack. Meanwhile, several yards away, Embur turned quickly as she heard the sound of crunching snow. The sight of the blood-red sword immediately alerted her of Soren’s presence. “They’ve found us,” Edge told her and her companions and he scampered toward them, panting. “I’d advise you draw your sword, because they ain’t gonna let us just stroll out of here."
“He’s right,” Kaike nodded, taking her blaster out of it’s holster. The older woman remained calm, despite the fact that she knew she’d have to fight her son, after the boy had killed her husband and his father. Rowan glanced at Embur reassuringly as he took out his broadsword, “It’ll be alright, we can face him.” “I know,” Embur lied. She was both terrified and determined. Soren was a force to be reckoned with, but his two Templars were hardly a match against Kaike and Edge and Rowan. She drew her blue Undarese-style plasma sword and awaited her opponents. Soren dashed forward and swung his sword at Embur, voicing a battle-cry. The girl met the blow with her own sword, blocking it and pushing back against his sword. Soren attempted an overhand strike, throwing all of his power into it. Embur barely blocked in time and retaliated with a swift blow to his chest with the butt of her sword. Soren staggered backwards, fighting to regain his balance, and gave a short gasp, the breath knocked out of him. The icy air burned his throat, furthering his frustration. Embur slashed at Soren and their blades met with the sound of meeting energy as the others battled. The young Soru swung at Soren who parried and retaliated by kicking her with quick thrust of his leg. Embur stumbled backwards, and Soren whirled around just in time to see Kaike with her blaster aimed at him. Soren tried to move out of the way in time, but two of the blaster’s pulses caught him on the side. Fiery pain seared up his side and back and Soren voiced a stifled yell. Intense anger flared in his mind, drowning out much of the pain. Kaike shot at him again, but Soren was prepared this time and thrust out his arm towards the blasts, stopping them mid-air with magic. Soren flung the laser bolts back at Kaike, who rolled out of the way. With Soren distracted, Embur found this a perfect moment to attack. She ran towards the young man, sword raised, and swung it at him in a horizontal slash.
