So now that I've got a nice final version of the Swing Carousel, I was considering putting it and the Drop Tower on Lego Ideas. I know it's very unlikely they'd even get close to 10,000, but I figure at the very least it would be an interesting experience. Before I go anywhere near Ideas though, does anyone have any tips, or feedback to improve either of them in any way? (I was also considering putting them both up on the US galleries, as you seem to get a lot more comments/feedback there)

They are literally 2 of my favorite builds ever, being a HUGE amusement park fan! If anything, I would say add something cool to the top of the drop tower. The swing carousel is perfect though, would 100% buy it if it was a set! BTW, let me know when you put them on Ideas so I can make an account and support them:D!

So detailing on the top of the Drop Tower seems to be the request (from Coson too)... I've had a look at some real-life drop towers, and they don't seem to be hugely detailed around the top - what sort of stuff did you guys have in mind?
And with regards to creating an Ideas account, sine Ideas is Lego-owned I'm pretty sure you just have to sign into your Lego ID (the account we all used for the LMBs)

A flag or two at the top would be nice to add colour.
There is a little more you have to do as it is for 13+ only and is open to non-Lego ID people. But it is simple to create an acount.

I'd agree with that, maybe just add a few tiles as well.
I just made an account and it's very easy, I just had to accept the terms of service and activate my account.

Maybe you could put a logo or a sign on top? I mean, it's up to you, but you do kind of have a point. That's good, I'll definitely do that!

Is this thread open to TECHNIC and MINDSTORMS builds? I would post in their dedicated sub-boards, but both of them are ghost towns .
Anyway, I'm working on a giant racing car model! Will be about 1.3 metres long and pedal-powered! I just hope it can take my weight...
Sure! The racing car sounds incredible.
In other news, today I submitted my Swing Carousel to Lego Ideas. You can only put one Idea in at a time for moderation, so I'll do the Drop Tower ASAP. I'll give you the links once they're up. Plus, you guys will finally get to see videos of them in action!

Glad I'm accepted .
I currently have a chassis with some of the key mechanical features fitted. The wheels are made from LEGO tank tread chain links bent the wrong way - the front wheels use 42 links each and the rears 48. It forms a nice tight wheel that you can easily add spokes to.
The front steering system is fitted (Ackermann Steering Geometry as standard), and I've begun to make the steering linkage to connect to the steering wheel. I've built the wheel - it looks like a Formula One steering wheel and has 4 paddles, each of which presses a button on a MINDSTORMS infrared remote. The remote is in the middle of the wheel and points at a receiver directly opposite, allowing wireless transmission. The paddles will be for gears and brakes. I'll also put the EV3 brick behind the wheel as a dashboard showing RPM, gear and other stuff.
The chassis is fully built - it uses a crane-like truss (Warren truss I think) and is nearly indestructible. Good thing I have nearly 10,000 pieces . I've tested it and it flexes a little but doesn't come apart - that's promising...
The pedals drive a chain which drives an 8-speed sequential gearbox, shifted by a single EV3 motor. The chain has alternating black and grey segments - I'll have an EV3 colour sensor point to it to measure the pedal RPM. The gearbox operates at very high RPM to minimise the amount of torque going through it. If when I come to testing it the gearbox destroys itself, I'll remove it. It then drives an gigantic sturdy differential built from two turntables. The differential can be locked manually - this will be important since the rear wheels have no tyres and therefore very little grip.
There are also disk brakes (rubber tyres for the disk and little LEGO rubber pads as the pads) on each wheel. Each one will be operated by an EV3 motor. I will also connect a small EV3 motor to the differential lock - it will measure the difference in speeds between the two wheels. If the difference is too great, the EV3 will lightly apply the brakes to the wheel going faster to slow it down and send more torque to the other wheel. This is important to prevent a slip-situation. The threshold of locking could be adjusted, making it more advanced than some real cars! A similar system is used on the million-dollar McLaren P1 hypercar.
I've also built a seat that will fit me. I'll sit pretty much right on the rear axle because that's where the grip needs to be. It's an ambitious project, but I think I'm nearly there!

Glad to have you here! I'm technically the leader of the club but I don't really do anything apart from the rest. That project sounds amazing! I must confess that I really know nothng about technic or Mindstorms. It'll be great to see how it turns out!

I've been having some trouble with the photos for the Ideas submissions - I'll try and get it sorted when I can, but I'm pretty busy this month. In the meantime, enjoy these videos of the rides in action:

I posted my themed creation (Remember that contest a long time ago?) However it seems that the Lego crew is having difficulties with technical issues. No one is getting through moderation
