“Guess I’ve got a light tread.” He shrugged casually. ****
He glanced significantly at Cole. “Some of us need it more than others.” It was easy to see what he meant by that. Cole’s shirt was virtually ripped to shreds and practically soaked by the damage done to his body. He was visibly trembling from pain and exhaustion, though he was stubbornly resisting the urge to sit down and was instead leaning wearily against a pillar. There was a tired, haunted look to his eyes, but he covered it with a fierce scowl, trying to hide his pain from the others.
Oh, no. . .No!! That's horrible! Oh, my word, I'm so sorry. . . I hope they passed away quickly and painlessly. (No. . . ! Aw, that's sweet.) I'm very glad for that. He sounds like a brave little survivor (like a warrior ). May he live long and happily. Aw, my gosh, that's great!! Yes, I'd love that -- I hope all goes well! I hope Streak and her kittens will be strong, healthy, and happy. (I hope so, too. Do you not want to talk about what happened to Callie's kittens?)
Here's the little warrior.
I've got the kitten circled in green so you can see him better. ( We don't actually know the gender yet, but it looks like it's father, so we're thinking it's male. ) Also there's Streak, see how big her tummy is ( circled in orange. ). And thanks, she hasn't had them yet but could literally any day now. ( I guess I could tell if I don't go into detail to much. Two died of the cold and we think the other three were killed by our dog because of how we found them... )
Wow, he's so cute!
I can't tell the difference between the orange and green.
The other kittens were warm, but they'd sometimes fall out of the box and get cold. If not put back in with the others they'd freeze. And even though we protected most of them from the cold for the most part with a heat lamp, that didn't stop our dog ( we think ) from going after them.
Oh dear, I see. . . .
I hope you'll be able to keep the dog away from Streak's kittens.
Nya ignored them and led Liana toward the Bounty. “Most of our stuff is on the ship, so we should be able to find something for you.” There was a moment of silence before Liana said. “I can walk by myself.” Coolly she pulled her hand back from Nya’s. “Sorry.” Feeling a little embarrassed, Nya brushed a strand of ink-black hair out of her hair. “I mean, I knew you could, I just thought. . .” Her voice trailed off awkwardly as she stared at Liana. The latter stared coldly in her direction with unseeing, milky-gray eyes, a look of resentment on her face. Nya took a breath and said. “Look. I think we might have gotten off on the wrong foot, back there last night. I saw you fight off those huge cat-monsters, and I thought you were amazing. I don’t think you need help because you’re blind, because you obviously don’t need it. It’s just—” She tried to think of the right words. “You were so good, and I didn’t see your scars, so I was just surprised to see that you’re blind. “I think it’s cool that you can do all that. . .” She continued. “Even most normal teenage girls can’t do what you did. I’m sorry if I was patronizing. . . because I know how that feels.” Liana’s gaze softened. “Thank you. I—I’m sorry if I was a bit cold. I guess—I just hate it when people think I need to be treated like a toddler just because I can’t see. I’ve met very few who treat me like a real person.” “Like Cole? I mean, seeing that you guys were once friends.” Liana hesitated, then nodded. “Yeah. Like him. He doesn’t underestimate me or try to take care of me. He knows what I’m capable of.” “Then I’ll do the same.” Nya held out a hand. “Friends?” Liana blinked, then smiled. “Friends.” Nya let her find her hand, and the two girls shook on it. Nya then led the way into the interior of the Bounty, finding a room in which boxes of clothes were piled. The two of them stepped into the musty room, lit only by a small porthole showing the inside of the cavern, and waded into the pile of cardboard packages.
Very nice! Still can't quite pinpoint why I like Nya's reaction to all this, but it's great!
The golden phoenix symbol stared back at her from the green breastplate on the red uniform she wore when she was Samurai X. Her shoulders slumped, and she felt an unexpected twist in her heart at the sight of the old outfit. She thought she had accepted being the Water Ninja, but now her mind was flooded with a jumble of conflicting emotions. She bit her bottom lip as she realized. . . she still missed being a samurai. *** “No way. I don’t wear dresses. Period.” Liana interjected firmly. **** “I wouldn’t know. I’ve never seen pink.” Liana replied wryly.
1. Aww Nya misses being a samurai. 2. Sounds fumillier. ( yet somehow I ended wareing one to homeschool prom... Ok so it wasn't that bad, the one I wore felt like pajamas. ) 3. Aw Liana...
Nya looked at her and raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were going to stop being cold.” “That wasn’t cold; that was sarcastic.” A small, playful grin tugged on Liana’s lips despite her cool tone. “There’s a difference.” Nya smiled and gave a short laugh. “Here. I think this will look good on you—” “AUGH! JAY!!” Cole’s voice yelped from outside the ship. Nya rolled her eyes and sighed. “What are they doing?? Get dressed. I’ll be right back.” As she left Liana in the room she muttered under her breath. “Boys.” She trotted away from the Bounty to find Cole shouting crossly at Jay through gritted teeth. “You’re not supposed to do it like THAT!” “What’s going on?” Nya questioned as she walked up to the two boys in a face-off. “He poured a bunch of that stuff on me, and it hurts like crazy!” Cole gestured angrily to his wounds, which were now dripping wet with the medicine, and the long, grotesque cuts were fizzing and turning white with odd hissing noises. “Well, sor-REE!” Jay exclaimed indignantly. “How was I supposed to know how this thing works?!” Nya sighed. “It’s supposed to hurt; that stuff is clearing out the infection. It won’t sting for long. Here.” She took the brown bottle from Jay and opened the first aid kit to pull out bandages and a wash cloth. “I’ll take care of this. Jay, you can help Liana find something to wear if she’s not satisfied with what we found. Don’t go in yet; she’s dressing.” She stopped him from walking in. “Oh. OK. Well, ah. . .” Jay stuck his hands in his pockets and glanced around. “Are my services no longer required? Because I want to see if there’s any sign of those creatures on the city security cameras.” “I already did that, but go ahead. I guess Liana will be fine.” Nya waved him off good-naturedly. “Go on, I’ll take care of things here.” She sat down beside Cole on the crate and poured a bit of hydrogen peroxide into the little white cap. Jay hesitated, then said. “OK, then.” He walked away and joined the others at the computer screens down the hall. The loading dock was quiet once he shut the door behind him.
Cole gritted his teeth and clenched his knees as he sat bare-backed on the crate and the medicine burned and fizzed in his wide wounds. “Mmmmph. . . ! Is it supposed to do that?” “Yup. Quit whining, you big baby, this stuff is helping you.” Nya responded teasingly as she got out a couple of cotton pads and dabbed at the fizzing white scratches on his back. They fell into a moment of quiet as she tended gently to his wounds. Cole then sighed. “I’m sorry I blew up at Jay.” “You should tell him that, not me.” She continued wiping up the dripping medicine and leftover gore. “Cole. . . Why didn’t you tell us about your friends? . . . About Philip passing away?” Cole stiffened. “I’d rather not talk about it.” “Did you think we wouldn’t understand?” “I’d rather not talk about it.” “Did you think you’d be able to handle it by yourself?” “I’d rather not talk about it.” “Were you just scared?” “What part of ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ do you not understand, water lily?!” Cole snapped. Nya, unperturbed by his attitude, leaned over so she could see his face. He looked away when she pressed gently. “You could have at least told me. We’re friends, aren’t we?” “Of course we are.” He muttered. “I just—” He sighed. “I didn’t want to make you worry. And, Philip was smashed months ago. I didn’t think it would affect anything.” Nya gazed at him for a moment longer, then pulled out the bandages. “I’m sorry he passed. He must have been a good friend.” There was a long moment of silence as she unwrapped the linen bandages, waiting for a response. Finally Cole murmured. “Thanks.” Nya began applying the bandages to the bright-red injuries. “So. . . You know Liana because she’s Philip’s sister?” “Yeah. We traveled together before I met Sensei Wu. Ah!” He grunted when she accidentally bumped one of the scratches in an attempt to wrap a bandage around his chest. “Sorry.” She apologized, then said carefully. “She seems very independent.”
I'm not sure if he understood the fact that I don't care for either Pancakes nor Waffles. I eat about the same amount of each, but I think waffles are my main go to if I had to pick.
Yes, I did! I need you to like pancakes before the waffles persuade you to be on their side!
NOOOOO! See what I mean?
I don't really have a preference, seeing that both make me feel sick.
“Guess I’ve got a light tread.” He shrugged casually. ****

She started to lead the way down a corridor, then stopped. “You should come too, Liana. I have some old clothes that you can wear instead of your night robe.” The blind girl blinked, looking a bit surprised that someone was talking to her. Then she dipped her head in Nya’s direction. “Thanks.” “No problem.”
**** Grimacing, he gingerly slipped off his shirt. Nya gasped, and Jay sucked in air through his teeth. “Oh, my gosh. . .” Nya murmured. “Whew,” Jay muttered, looking rather unnerved. “Those things did a lot of damage.” Cole looked down at his bare chest and grimaced. “We need new suits or something. Those claws are like knives, and those cats have at like, four on each paw!” “Five.” Jay corrected. “Whatever.” “I’ll bring up the subject to Sensei.” Nya glanced over at Liana, who was standing nearby with a worried expression on her scarred face. **** “Jay, you take care of those scratches. Put some hydrogen peroxide on them while I help Liana find something to wear.” Whilst she took Liana by the hand and led her way, Jay asked “Put some what on??” while Cole exclaimed. “Wait—On these cuts?? It’s gonna sting like crazy!!”
1. That's nice of Nya. 2. Wow. 3. How would he not know that?
1. I would like to think she would warm up to another girl her age. 2. Indeed. 3. Well, he is a ninja, not a doctor.

OOIIIIII, sweet baby!! Have you decided on a name yet? Oh, that soon!? Wow! That's happy news! Are you planning to keep the kittens? (I'm so sorry. That's awful. I really hope your little warrior and Streak's kits will have a brighter future.)
“What do you expect? She lost her parents when she was, like, fifteen, and then lost her big brother a few years later. She lives with relatives she only met recently, and everyone looks down on her because she’s blind. She’s learned to look out for herself since she was young.” Nya hesitated before asking. “How did she. . . lose her sight?” Cole gazed off thoughtfully. “It’s been a while since I heard the story, but I think a wolf or something attacked her when she was just a toddler. It clawed out her eyesight and scarred her for life.” “Poor thing.” She breathed, then quickly added. “Not that she’s helpless or anything.” “MMPH! Not so tight!” “Sorry.” She murmured as she adjusted the bandages so that their grip wasn’t quite so uncomfortable. “Sit up now; I need to get the ones on your chest.” Those in particular were the cruelest injuries, and judging by the red color of the skin around the cuts those should probably have been tended to first. “No, that’s OK, I can do that myself.” Cole muttered as he took the medicine, cotton pads, and bandages from her hands. He looked up and gave a soft smile. “Thank you, though.” She nodded warmly. “Just following orders. I’ll go see what the others are up to.” With that she turned and exited the room, leaving Cole sitting alone on the crate to tend to his throbbing injuries. Nya walked back down the corridor and to the central area, where Zane and Jay were staring at the computers screens. “Any luck?” She called. “Nothing. Sensei Wu’s sleeping.” Jay responded, eyes still on the screen as he scrolled. “I have nothing to report from my falcon. There is still no sign of Lloyd.” Zane murmured as he clicked on the keyboard. “Could he be around the Mamasan settlements? Or the Yokai mountain ranges?” Nya stepped up between the two. “I have checked in both places. I am wondering, though, if he could have fallen into the Autumn River, the one that runs down from the northern mountains.” Zane suggested. “But that goes on for hundreds of miles! He could be anywhere.” Nya said as her eyes scanned the screen.
