Liana jumped to her feet and snatched her nunchucks from her leather belt, glaring sightlessly in the direction of the intruders. Jay scrambled frantically to his feet while Nya prepared another volley of water. Before she could shoot it, however, a dark gray nekomata leapt at her and pulled her to the floor, its long claws digging into her shoulders painfully. “Nya!” Jay exclaimed. He started toward her, but the tabby swiped a huge paw and cuffed him around the ear, knocking him to the ground. Liana, meanwhile, swung her nunchucks at the white tom growling at Ronin, forcing the nekomata to edge backwards warily. Ronin stuck a hand in the crate he was just rooting through and pulled out a large, silver-colored kusarigama. The curved blade gleamed in his hands as he advanced. “Hey, Fluffy. Afraid we can’t allow pets in the shop. Get out before I use your catgut for my tennis racket.” “You know they don’t actually use a cat’s intestines to make tennis rackets, right?” Liana said. “I know, I know!” He snapped. Nya’s view of her friends was obscured by the muzzle of the nekomata pressing against her face. One huge paw pressed down sharply on her chest, and she stared into the amber eyes staring menacingly back at her. As she struggled to breathe under the pressure, the nekomata leaned so close that she could smell its breath, (which was pretty awful). Whiskers tickling her cheeks, it hissed in a guttural voice into her ear. “Would you like to see your littermate, Daughter of Water?” Nya froze under his claw, then squirmed more vigorously than ever. “What did you with Kai?!” She rasped. “Let me show you.” He murmured. Nya gasped to find herself standing on a steep mountainside. A breeze toyed with her hair, and she blinked blearily in the wind. What happened? Where was everyone? For some reason, she couldn’t tell if it was night or day, nor if those dark shapes around her vision were grass or rocks. She looked around and realized that Kai was lying on the ground a few feet away. She saw two dark figures kneeling by him, but she somehow couldn’t really see them; they were but dark blurs in the background. @bold I'm glad Nya caught onto the meaning of this cause I sure wouldn't have. "Would I like to see my... what??"

Cole quirked an eyebrow. “What are you talking about? Are you still freaking out about her eyes?” “No, I mean. . . Look.” Jay took a breath. “Haven’t you noticed how those nekomata have been mysteriously been able to find us anywhere ever since we picked her up? She was with Nya and I at Ronin’s place, and with you and Zane at the hotel when that was attacked.” Cole opened his mouth to say something, but Jay continued. “And what about wounds? While you had huge scratches on your back and chest, my shoulder was mangled, and everyone else had similar injuries, Liana was completely unscathed both last night and this afternoon! Sure, it looked like she was putting up a fight, but that could have been easily faked. “Isn’t it weird how she disappeared from your life years ago, only to show up right when these problems with bakeneko and nekomata began happening? A little too coincidental, don’t you think? What if—?” His voice dropped to a whisper. “—What if she didn’t come to find you because of her brother?” Cole opened his mouth again, but no words formed. He wore a stricken expression on his face, and his green eyes were wide. “You—you don’t think. . .?” Both ninja stared at each other, wondering the same thing. Finally Cole sputtered. “No. She—she can’t be. There’s no way. She’s. . . She’s my friend.” Jay arched his eyebrows. “Maybe Liana is. . . But a bakeneko or nekomata in disguise isn’t.” Cole clenched his jaw and set the container down on the counter, no longer hungry; instead looking sick. “I’m going to go talk to her.” He rasped. As he left the counter and brushed past Jay, the latter said warningly. “Be careful.” Cole didn’t answer nor look at his friend as he left the room. Jay gazed at the now-empty doorway silently. There. The deed was done. He hoped he made the right decision. Jay’s green eyes gleamed in the afternoon light. ✯ ☾ ✯ [End of Episode 2 of Ninjago: Roots of Earth]
@bold Everyone has green eyes, huh?
WAIT- what if Jay's really that Eagle Talon guy in disguise? And and he's related to Cole... because... they both have green eyes?.. Eh, the second one's a bit of a stretch, but I'd bet my bottom dollar the first one's true! So exciting, and I'm only two episodes in! Hands down the best Ninjago fanfic I've ever read, not that that's a particularly high bar to set... But this really is good!

Kaeden thought about it as his gaze rested on the man’s sweating face. “I think,” He finally said. “That we should take him to your house and see if Nama can revive him.” Jukeni sighed reluctantly. “She already worries too much about me. What is she going to think when you and I come back with a random dude our age who’s passed out from a sugar-crash?” “I don’t think it’s a sugar-crash. I think there’s something seriously wrong with this guy, and I think your mother is probably the only person within miles who can help him.” “All right,” Jukeni said, though with acquiesce. “But if it turns out he’s another Pingous spy or one of Hagar’s henchmen, I’m blaming you.” “Fine.” Kaeden bent down and grabbed the boy from under the armpits. “Help me with him, will you?” With that, the two friends lifted the unconscious man into their arms and carried him away into the woods, grunting quietly under his weight. As the wolf-man cradled the stranger’s upper half of his body, he wondered what exactly he and his best friend were getting themselves into.
* * * *snip* @bold I can't help but think this is a callback to another story.

Matilda’s voice reverberated in Nya’s mind. ‘. . .There are little signs you can watch out for in the chance that you might suspect your friend of being a bakeneko or a nekomata. For instance, sometimes the werecat will make a small mistake in the transformation; slightly pointed ears, different colored eyes, spiky teeth, things such as that. Another, more subtle way to tell, though, is the person’s shadow. If you look at the shadow of a bakeneko or a nekomata in their human forms, their shadow will appear to be feline rather than humanoid.’ Nya stared at Jay with wide eyes. “What?” Jay quirked an eyebrow “What is it?” Slowly, ever so slowly, Nya turned to where the afternoon sunlight was hitting the wall by the door. She could see her own shadow there; a dark humanoid head with a short haircut. She then looked at the shadow beside her own. The shape of a cat’s head shifted where Jay’s shadow was supposed to be.
* * * Cole cried out furiously as he unsheathed his short sword and met Liana’s blow. “I knew it! You are a bakeneko!” Liana snarled and kicked his stomach. Cole tumbled backwards, gasping in pain and clutching his belly. “That’s what you think!” She brandished the sai in one hand and snatched a long katana from its place on the wall. “You’re an idiot if you think I’m one of those cat-creatures!” “Prove it!” Cole spat. Glaring with rage, Liana drew back the sleeve of Zane’s white gi she wore, exposing her bare arm. With a quick swipe she ran the sai over the flesh. The injury stained the edges of the white sleeve. “Satisfied?” Cole got to his feet and glared at her. She stood in front of him as human as ever, wearing a fierce expression of anger and hurt. He wanted to believe Liana. He had thought she was his friend. He liked her. They had shared some insane adventures together in the past. The evidence was overwhelming, though, and even when Liana didn’t turn into a cat-creature when she wounded herself, that left just one option. AHA I was right on the money!!
* * * ... oh, sharp sai

“Don’t you try that with me!” Cole coughed for air. “I’m not stupid!” “No, just an arrogant, feather-brained idiot!” Liana swung, and Cole ducked her weapon by mere inches. He stumbled to his feet, then, brandishing his short sword, blocked another blow from her nunchucks. She struck again; he blocked again; she struck; he blocked; she struck; he blocked; again and again Liana swung furiously at Cole, barely giving him a chance to catch his breath whilst he desperately defended himself. She forced him to take several steps backward, and before he knew it, Cole had backed into the wall. Liana, noticing that her opponent was cornered, struck him swifter than ever. She finally knocked the blade from his hands and proceeded to bruise his knuckles and arms. Clenching his jaw, Cole took a risky chance and reached out to grab one of her arms. He was smacked in the face by the nunchucks and a bit dazed, but he held fast. *snip* @bold No, Cole, you're just about as dense as they come. Dense as rock, even.

“I believe this young man has made it clear that he will not be answering any questions for any reason, and I, personally, would rather not resort to threats of torture and such to get what we want. We are warriors—not savages.” He gave the werecat a significant glance. Eagle Talon rolled his cat-like eyes disdainfully at the veiled comment. “Maybe he just doesn’t have the right motivation.” Nya growled. Before anyone could stop her, she yanked a katana out of its sheath and marched up to the prisoner with a dangerous gleam in her eyes. “Nya, no!” Zane exclaimed and started forward. Nya stopped him with a wave of her sword before stepping up to Eagle Talon. Brandishing the weapon, she leaned forward until she was fairly nose-to-nose with the werecat. The latter met her glare coolly, looking uninterested in her, as if she were but a mere fly buzzing about meaninglessly. Nya glared at him for a second, then promptly slapped him in the face. “That’s for flirting with me.” The werecat blinked through the pain of his stinging cheek. “I wasn’t flirting,” He said. “I was simply acting in the way your mate would, like a good spy should.” She blushed angrily and exclaimed. “My—?! Jay’s not my ‘mate’!” “That wasn’t the impression I was left with, but all right, whatever.” He shrugged. Nya paused, then narrowed her bright blue eyes to slits. “You guys want moonstones, don’t you?” Eagle Talon arched an eyebrow. “One could deduct that from the results of our missions, yeah.” “But you don’t have all of them you want, do you?” Nya prompted. “Obviously. Why else would I be placed as a spy and not leave after my tribemates recovered the moonstone from the tom Ronin’s place?” “So. . .” She paused for effect. “. . . You still need more. For reasons you’re unwilling to tell us.” The werecat dipped his head wordlessly in response. “What would you say. . .” Nya idly traced the pattern of the katana’s hilt. “. . . If we knew where another moonstone was, and we were willing to give it to you?” @bold Nya, if you think these bakenekomata things are out for blood, just say this in front of the Jaya crowd.

Not exactly... The world itself I've had in my mind for years and years, but I've never really written a proper story for it. That's pretty clever, actually. I thought for a minute it was a region in the never-realm. I've been reading other Ninjago stories here to see if maybe it was a nod to one of those worlds, but it's been in your head the whole time! I like the idea of taking original worlds and working them into a Ninjago story cause aren't there, like, eight realms unaccounted for? Ahh gotcha xD Nah, I started writing this years before those seasons came out. I believe I started soon after Hands of Time aired. Heh, thanks! x/D Exactly, yes!! I kept thinking about those other realms that were never mentioned, and was so desperately intrigued by them, so at last I was like, "Fine, I'll do it myself"

Eagle Talon slightly cocked his head, looking mildly surprised and confused that he was being treated like a guest, but he said nothing. He only dipped his head briefly and followed the sensei out of the room, leaving the others standing there. There was a moment of silence. Then Liana turned to Cole and said quietly. “And you thought I was the werecat.” “This is about to get ugly. I’m outta here.” Matilda muttered as she promptly marched toward the door. “Come on, Frosty.” Zane, looking a bit apprehensive, followed, leaving Cole alone to face Liana’s wrath. “Jay—I mean, Eagle Talon made me think it was you.” He protested. “It was a trick!” The worm of guilt already wriggling inside jerked harder when Liana’s expression fell into a scowl of anger and hurt. Mostly anger, though. “And you believed him. You believed him!” She exclaimed. “For crying out loud, what did he say to make you think that I was a werecat?!” “Look, I’m sorry, OK?! I’m sorry I thought you were the traitor!” “You didn’t think about it. You didn’t ask questions. You didn’t talk to anyone else about it, did you?” Before he could reply, she continued icily. “You came into that room and attacked me.” Cole’s guilt turned to anger, and he lashed out. “You struck first!” “You unsheathed your sword first!” She snapped back. “You attacked me and accused me of being a werecat! Then, when I hurt myself to show that it wasn’t a disguise, you accused me of being a traitor! A traitor!” She clenched her jaw and rolled her fists into balls. “What did I ever do that could possibly make you think that I was a traitor?! I didn’t even want to join you guys, I had to leave my family because of you! I fought by your side, I saved your lousy butt all too many times, I helped you look for moonstones, and this is the thanks I get?!” Cole growled in exasperation. “Liana, for crying out loud, you’re taking this way too seriously! It was just a mistake! A stupid mistake! Would you calm down already?! We’ve got the real guy! You’re just overreacting!” @bold: "If you're a man who doesn't want to get stabbed with a knife, these are the things you don't say to your wife love interest!!"
