The Atlantis theme was an interesting one. It was the first LEGO theme to get a promotional movie with a story to promote it. I honestly think that this theme's initial success has let themes like Ninjago thrive with TV shows. It paved the way for all other animated LEGO Media after it, maybe even the LEGO Movie.
Atlantis never really took off, but will still be special to me.
I LOVED Atlantis, one of my favorite themes growing up! I have tons of the sets, my favorite being the Typhoon Turbo Sub! Overall, I thought it was a successful theme unlike you. It had 3 waves, which is MUCH more than most themes. The only other themes from that time period I can think of with 3 waves is Power Miners, Castle, and Space Police III, three themes that were also EXTREMELY popular at the time. So yeah, in my opinion it took off quite well!

It should've lasted longer.
Eh, there really wasn't much else they could make. They got to Atlantis and got treasure. What would come next in a theme named "Atlantis"?

In my Top 5 favorite LEGO themes, Atlantis would be in it. It's what really got me into LEGO and I love the sets. I really enjoyed the little movie and have watched it numerous times.

Out of themes I have been alive for, it is definitely in my top 5 too. The only ones I definitely like more in my lifetime are BIONICLE and Power Miners. I would say it's on level with Space Police III, Mars Mission, and Indiana Jones. It was really the last theme I really got tons of sets for before my parents kind of limited my LEGO buying:(.

All of those themes you listed are some of my favorites except Bionicle. I just couldn't get interested in it. I had a lot of parts and minifgs from Mars Mission that I loved. I owned one set from SP III which was Squidman's Escape. I wanted to collect more but I didn't have the money.

YOU DIDN'T LIKE BIONICLE:O?! That literally is my second favorite theme ever, and easily my favorite theme story-wise ever! The story was just SO GOOD! I still miss it to this day. I have TONS of the old BIONICLE sets, but sadly my parents thought they looked too "kidish" by the time of the Toa Mahri came out, so I don't have any sets past that besides Mantax from the Toa Mahri wave:(. Still, I followed the story throughout despite not getting any sets. I literally followed it from start to finish and am a proud owner of all the Toa Mata:D!

Nope! It was just one of those things I couldn't get into. So what was the story to it? I've heard a lot of people talk about it but I'm not sure what it is about.

The story is VERY complex and had many parts. Each year or two they had a new ministory in the big story until the grand finale in 2010. The general story is that there are biomechanical beings who's world is being attacked by evil forces, usually the Makuta. 6 elemental heroes called the Toa are generally the main character and fight the evil. There is MUCH more too it though. That's just a VERY brief description. Not to mention some of the ministories didn't have Makuta or Toa, for example, the Glatorian years.

Wow! I didn't know it was that complex. Honestly from the brief description it sounds pretty cool! The sets are one of the biggest reasons I didn't get into Bionicle. They just didn't impress me.

The sets were definitely not the best part. I mean, some of them were pretty complex, but most were just like 50 pieces or so. Still, I enjoyed the sets, especially since I was REALLY into the story.

I'm a strictly bricks sorta guy. It still sounds really cool. Was there a tv show or something?

No TV show, but there were tons of books, graphic novels, and comics. I only read a handful of them, but I followed the general story through the internet. I used to have like 5 of the books, but I think my mom gave them away as I can't find them anymore:(!
