Hey everyone! This technically isn't a "Jurassic World" story, but it is a dinosaur story that was largely inspired by the JP series! Enjoy! Prologue: Dinosaurs. These "terrible lizards" have been on this Earth longer than we have.* They come in all shapes and sizes, and with many unique colors and features. They hold a power which strikes a special awe into all humans. And yet, sadly, the dinos' time on Earth seems to be almost over. The dinosaurs are going extinct, and no matter how hard we humans try to help them, their numbers keep growing smaller and smaller. That is why I, Dr. Jonathan H. Lewis, have created a special area in the Hawaiian Islands protected by the government. Here, dinosaurs can thrive on their own in the wild with little to no human interference. We have dinos from all over the globe right here on this very special island, in this very special park. Welcome to the Salvusaurus Nature Reserve. *Whether you believe in Biblical Creation or Evolution, you believe that dinosaurs were here before we were. Either 60 million years before us, or half a day before us.

CHAPTER 1 Josh and Caleb gazed around in awe. They could see a Diplodocus pushing down a tree in the distance, and a few Gallimimuses snoozing on a rock. There was even a T. Rex stomping around in a field not too far away. "There's nothing but a fence separating us from the dinos!" said Caleb. "Are you sure this is safe?" "It's completely safe," answered Dr. Lewis. "We have collars on the dinos that give powerful electric shocks if they get too close to the fence, just as if they were enormous dogs." "What about the ones that live in groups?" asked Josh. "Couldn't they get each others' collars off?" "The Gallimimuses aren't smart enough to figure that out," replied the scientist. "But the raptors are a different story. They don't even have the collars at all. They're completely separated from the other dinosaurs in a 15-foot-deep concrete pen, with 5-foot-thick walls. But the pen is rather large, so they have plenty of room, and there's all sorts of natural things in there like dirt all over the floor and even a few trees and bushes." "Sounds like you know what you're doing," admitted Caleb. "We sure do," said Dr. Lewis confidently. "Now, come on. It's time to begin the tour!" Dr. Lewis led the two visitors into a large building. The sign on the door said "Staff members only." "Come on in," said the saurologist.* The two brothers, both around age 20, had paid for a special behind-the-scenes tour of the nature reserve. "This is our veterinarian, Dr. Nicholas Abrams," Jonathan said, pointing to a man with a tan vest and a cheerful face patting a small Dilophosaurus on the head. "He's still young, and not yet able to spit venom," said the vet. "He's friendly, you want to touch him?" "Of course we do!" exclaimed Caleb. The brothers had always loved dinosaurs, but with the declining population, they hadn't often seen them in the wild. This was a dream come true for them. "How old is he, Dr. Abrams?" asked Josh. "You can call me Nick," answered the vet. "And he's about 1-and-a-half years old." The two brothers reached out and gently stroked the baby dino. "Is he sick?" Caleb wondered. "He was, but he's about finished recovering," said Nick. "Ah, and here comes our dino handler and events coordinator, Dr. Abigail Mitchell." "Good morning, sirs," said Abigail. "Are you enjoying the tour?" "We're enjoying this Dilophosaurus," replied Caleb. "Then you'll love what we have next," said Dr. Mitchell. "Come along, this way." Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Lewis took the brothers around a corner to a large room with a thick piece of glass in front of it. Inside the room was a large Triceratops with a vet looking at him. "This is Cornibus, our last Triceratops," said Dr. Mitchell. "Last Triceratops?" asked Josh. "Yes," answered Jonathan. "We've been trying to find him a mate, but so far, we haven't had much luck. And not only that, but he's getting sick, and we can't figure out what's wrong with him." "Oh, no..." muttered Caleb. "I thought you said we would love this." "I meant that you would love the animal," answered Abigail. "Not his story or condition. Normally, we'd let you touch him, but....well, under the circumstances, we'd like to give him as little exposure to human visitors as possible." "I understand," said Caleb, as Josh stated, "I definitely don't want to expose him to anything." The two scientists and the two visitors stared silently at the dino and the vet for a few minutes, until they heard an announcement over the loudspeakers: 15 MINUTES UNTIL THE VELOCIRAPTOR FEEDING SHOW AT 11:00. *In a world where dinosaurs aren't extinct, someone who studies dinosaurs is called a "saurologist."

CHAPTER 2
"The Velociraptor pen is next on the tour," said Jonathan. "Come on, let's go see the show!" "I'll stay here and get the vet's report on Cornibus," said Dr. Mitchell. "Alright, I'll see you later!" her boss responded as he led the brothers outside. When they walked out the door, they found themselves on a large metal boardwalk leading to a fence with a crowd of people next to it. "Move, please!" said Jonathan as they neared the crowd. "VIP guests coming through!" The crowd parted as Josh, Caleb, and Dr. Lewis walked through to the fence. When Josh and Caleb looked at the fence, they could see nothing but another fence on the other side. But when they looked down, they could see a large enclosure with two Velociraptors inside, who were looking back up at the crowd. "Do you only have two raptors?" asked Caleb in surprise. "As a matter of fact, we do," answered the scientist. "We also have two T-Rexes and three Pteranodons." "Oh, no," Caleb muttered to his brother. "Even in the Salvusaurus Nature Reserve, the dinos are struggling for survival." Three workers walked down the boardwalk pushing a cage with two cows inside. "Does each raptor really eat a whole cow?" asked Josh in astonishment. "Not unless they're really hungry. But we try to keep them pretty well fed," answered Dr. Lewis. "The reason we have two cows is because last time we gave them one, they got in a real nasty fight over it." The handlers released the cows into the raptor enclosure. They looked around, then began to graze. Suddenly, the raptors jumped out at them. The cows started to run away. One of the raptors leaped into the air and..................

The raptors started feasting on their new prey as the park worker talked about their hunting traits. "Who knows how high a raptor can jump?" she asked. A small boy raised his hand. "8 feet," he said. "Excellent!" the worker exclaimed. "Now, raptors often need to jump very high when hunting their prey. Can anyone guess what kind of prey a raptor would jump high to catch?" Multiple children raised their hands and guessed as the worker called on them. "A squirrel in a tree!" "A bird!" "A super-big giraffe!" Some of their guesses were pretty good. Others a bit far-fetched. "Good guesses, every last one!" said the raptor handler, so she wouldn't make some of the kids feel bad. Dr. Lewis watched the kids and smiled. He loved seeing young people learn about dinosaurs. It was good to know that there were others who would want to continue his work when he was no longer able to. Suddenly, the park worker was pushed back over the fence and started falling toward the raptors....

CHAPTER 3
"Oh no!" "What's happening?" "Someone do something!" "Why can't you do something?" "I don't know, but someone better do something, cause that lady is falling to her doom!" "Well, then do something!" "No, you do something!" These are just a few of the exclamations provided by the crowd after this disaster occurred.
Finally, someone did something. Jonathan Lewis ran over to the fence and saw the raptor handler grabbing onto the observation deck. "Oh, good, you're still safe," uttered Jonathan in relief. "Now I've got to figure out how to get you back up here." The fence she had fallen over was a large barbed wire one, jutting out over the raptor paddock. It was designed to keep people from falling over it accidentally. Whoever pushed her had some formidable muscle power. The back of her body was very bruised and scratched from the barbed wire, and it looked like she didn't have much strength left.
"Hang on, Kathy!" said Jonathan, as he ran inside as fast as he possibly could. Jonathan rushed back out with thick gloves and boots on and began to climb the fence. When he got near the edge, he reached down with his right arm and let down a rope. "Grab on!" he shouted. Kathy lunged upward with her left hand, her right one still on the deck, just in case she couldn't hold on to the rope. Her hand closed around it, and Jonathan began to pull up. Soon she was close enough for him to grab her arm with his. Having more faith in his arm than in a rope, he did. "Hang on!" he said again. "I've almost got you........." He grabbed on with his other arm, his boots having enough traction to stay on the fence. He pulled upward with all the strength he had, and Kathy was out of danger. The raptors snarled in disappointment and walked away.
All the visitors, including Josh and Caleb, clapped for Jonathan. "Thank you, Dr. Lewis," Kathy said, still breathing heavily. "Well, shall we continue the tour?" Jonathan said, walking over to the brothers. "Sure," said Josh as the crowd dispersed and Nick came to take Kathy inside. "Where to next?" "Next we'll be going to see the T-Rexes!" answered the scientist. "Nice!" exclaimed Caleb. "I can't wait!" "Well, then, let's go!" said Jonathan, starting to walk back up the boardwalk.
Just then, Dr. Mitchell walked out of the "Staff Only" building. "Hey, Jonathan," she said. "Oh, uh, hey, Abigail," stammered Jonathan, making it seem like an awkward love scene in a movie. "Why are you making this seem like an awkward love scene in a movie?" asked Abigail. "What? I'm not doing that!" answered Jonathan. "Am I?" "I heard about Kathy. Is she alright?" asked Abigail. "Oh, yeah, she's fine," answered Jonathan. "She got pretty scratched up on her back, but Nick is taking care of her now." "Okay," said Abigail. "But what do you think happened to her?" "I don't know," said Jonathan. "It seemed like someone pushed her, but we have no way of finding out who. Still, it just doesn't seem right to let the crowd just leave like that, knowing that someone probably tried to feed Kathy to the raptors. I just can't understand why anyone would want to do that anyway......" "Well, see you later," said Abigail.
Jonathan waved and left, leading Josh and Caleb to the T-Rexes. "As you've already seen, the Rexes are in a large, open habitat," said the scientist. "They get to roam free with plenty of other dinos, making it seem very similar to the wild. We keep them well-fed, though, so they hardly ever try to attack the other dinos, and when they do, they're usually not successful." "Have they ever caught one before?" asked Caleb. "They've caught a Gallimimus once or twice," answered Dr. Lewis. "Anyway, since they are in a very large habitat, they're often not visible from the fence. That's why we're going into the habitat on this Jeep, just like an African safari."
Jonathan motioned to a blue jeep with the words "Salvusaurus Nature Reserve" printed on the doors. "Nice!" exclaimed Josh, as he sat down inside. Jonathan hopped into the driver's seat and started the engine. They drove off into the habitat, and soon, two T-Rexes were visible. Dr. Lewis slowed the Jeep down, explaining, "If we move around too much, they might see us as prey. They can't see us if we don't move." As the brothers looked on in awe, the Rexes slowly stomped around. There were no other dinos in sight. They liked to steer clear of the Tyrant Lizard Kings.
The larger T-Rex was deep orange-ish brown, and the smaller was more green. "The bigger one is the female," said Dr. Lewis. "Her name is Regina. And the green one is the male, Rex." Caleb took out his camera and took a picture of Regina. "Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention," said Jonathan, "no flash photogra-did you just take a picture!?!?" "Uh, yeah," mumbled Caleb. Josh looked up and gasped. Regina was staring right at them. Everything was still for a few seconds, and then the Queen of Dinos let out a thunderous roar.
