I've been here officially a year now, so I figured; "Hey, might as well." I was there when it was announced the LMBs would shut down in early March of 2017, and like most of everyone else there, I was greatly dismayed. I'd been playing around with the idea of writing a Ninjago fan-fiction for a little while back then, though if I had had more time to think about it, I probably would have decided not to ever indulge in something like that. However, the fact of the matter was, I did not have much time to think about it, so suddenly I decided; "These boards are shutting down. No one will remember. You have a little over two months. Go for it."
So I did. Rushed, sloppy in some places, typos in others, and riddled with references to other fandoms and universes -- from the littlest, most discreet nods to the utmost blatant and stupid of jokes -- here's something I wrote on the fly, with a time limit, a vague idea of what I was doing, but hopefully made with a whole lot of heart. If it weren't for the friends I met while making this and their enthusiasm and encouragement, I may not have finished, nor considered going on to write more fan-fiction material.
Jonmbost and ninjagofanmam , here's the story that had us meet and become friends. You liked the idea of me posting it again, so here it is. Thank you so much for adding encouragement, fun, and laughter to my story topic back then. I'm so glad we can still hang out and chat today. As well as the readers and friends who have disappeared, this is for you.
RomeNZ , you asked, I kept my word and thought about it, and here it is. Yup, the first Ninjago fan-fiction I wrote. Actually, the first Lego story in general that I ever wrote -- and back then, I hadn't written anything but school stories, essays, and cartoons for years, so please don't judge me. XD
Well. Here it is. Without further ado, I present to you;

CHAPTER 1: Escape
A lullaby was stuck in the boy's head that night. The chorus rang over and over again, showing no sign of ceasing.
I hear the wind,
Call my name,
A sound so strong,
It calls my name.
It's wild like the river,
It's warm like the sun,
Yes, here,
This is where I belong.
"NOT." Cole quietly added to himself, scowling at his mashed potatoes.
Cole and his father were eating dinner together in the well-furnished dining room, Cole at one end of the polished wood table and Lou at the other. His dad was chewing silently on his food, peacefully reading a book and once in a while humming a cheery tune under his breath. Like his son, his hair was raven-black, and thick eyebrows accustomed to frowning rested over his coal-black eyes, although his hair was neatly combed while Cole's hung in messy bangs around his face.
Cole's stomach was churning. Tomorrow morning he was to leave his father's house, set out for the train station, and ride to Ninjago City to start the school year at the Marty Oppenheimer School of Performing Arts. It was something Lou had prepared him for his entire life, it was what was expected of him. That was the future planned for him. And yet...
How could he tell his dad that he didn't want to go to that school? That he wanted to drop dancing? That he wanted to do something else, but he wasn't sure what?
He jumped at the sound of Lou scraping his fork over his plate for a mouthful of peas. "So," He said, breaking the silence. "Tomorrow you leave at five a.m. and head for school." A small smile of satisfaction crossed his face. "You'll be training at the best school in Ninjago, under strict teachers and well-organized classes. Very good, yes..." He muttered to himself and returned to the book.
Cole took a deep breath. "Actually, Dad...I was thinking..." Lou glanced up from his book. Cole swallowed, then said. "I was thinking that maybe I don't want to go to Oppenheimer."

Lou stared coldy at him from his book. "What?" His voice was dangerously soft.
Cole lifted his chin, determined not to show fear. "I thinking that, maybe, I would go to a different school this year, or something."
"A different school?" His father laid the book by his plate. "What school excatly did you have in mind?"
"Well uh, I was thinking I could join some mountain-climbing team, or go to a school where you learn martial arts, or evenhitch-hike across--"
"Hold on." Lou ordered. "Are you telling me you don't want to go to Oppenheimer, yet you have no idea what you want to do instead?"
"Well, not excatly, I just thought--"
"Yes, what were you thinking?" His dad's voice rose, eyes flashing. "Were you hoping some traveling band would just happen to find you and realize you have a talent for singing? Or did you think destiny would just drop at your feet like a Christmas present if you traveled to the Northern mountains? Were you thinking at all?"
Before Cole could respond, Lou continued. "Son, I have planned a safe, secure, and finacially benefical future for you! I've spent so much yen on your lessons, training you, preparing you! Are you seriously telling me you want to throw that all away?!"
"I'm not throwing it away!" Cole skin flushed hot, and he snapped angrily. "I just don't think my future involves dancing, and I want to find out what it is! I'm not trying to hurt you, I just--!"
"It's clear to me that while you're sure you don't want to go to school, you're not sure about what you want to do. Son, whether you like it or not, you are going to school, and that's final!"
"What if I don't want to?!"
Lou scowled. "You're just like your mother." He muttered.
Cole froze.
His dad stated coldy. "Now listen. Tomorrow morning, you will travel to school, on time, and without complaint. Is that clear?"
