This is a topic where you rank the seasons of Ninjago according to your own opinion. A couple things to note before we begin: -I would appreciate it if you shared when you started watching Ninjago. -Keep in mind that we are sharing opinions, not facts. -If a conversation begins to get a bit heated, please just don't respond. We Ninjago fans are very . . . how should I put this? . . . stubborn with our opinions. Feel free to just drop the chain.
Anyway, here's what I think. I started watching Ninjago in Summer 2016.
BEST: Season 4 - Tournament of Elements This season was very intense and exciting, yet at the same time, it was fun and hilarious. There's not a moment about this I don't like! Just kidding, there are some, but very few.
SECOND BEST: Season 6 - Skybound Like Tournament of Elements, intense but fun. The story was great and surprising, and Jay, of course, was hilarious. There were lots of turns and twists, such as ninja being captured by Nadakhan, the ninja being imprisoned, Jay being adopted, and every ninja but Jay being smashed.
THIRD BEST: Season 5 - Possession Okay, so the whole "possession" thing is a bit dark, and often holds me back from complementing this season. However, aside from this grim tone, the season was actually pretty great! First off, I'd like to say that when the ninja team is only the original four, they are hilarious. Don't get me wrong, Lloyd and Nya a good as well, but the personalities of these four bounce off each other so well, it's hard not to adore. Of course, parts such as when Morro ending Lloyd's possession for the Realm Crystal, oh my squash. So great. You got those chills, and you realized how much you missed Lloyd. Also, unlike most fans, I liked that Cole became a ghost. This was surprising plot development which I enjoyed. It shocked me, and I like it when a silly, old, immature "Ninjago" show manages to do something like that. All in all, this was actually a pretty good season.
THIRD WORST: Season 1 - Rise of the Snakes I'll probably get some hate for giving this season such a low rating, but that's only because the other seasons were so good. I enjoyed the story, and of course, the humor. The first two season were the most hilarious, which made them very enjoyable. Of course, it also had those epic "emotion" moments, such as when Zane discovers his past. There's not actually too much to complain about this season; I liked it.
SECOND WORST: Season 3 - Rebooted I always struggle with where to put this season. Once again, I'd like to say that it wasn't bad, but the others were better. The plot-line was, forgive me, a bit dull, and I didn't like the tech so much. Not to mention, the ninja were less funny, and the writers still hadn't completely figured out Lloyd's personality. Of course, this season still had its redeeming moments. Jay and Cole's fights of Nya were hilarious ("I haven't brushed my teeth in a week!" "There are refutable performers who attend clown college!" "Choose blue, Nya, you're comfortable with blue!" "Choose black, Nya! Black is not blue!" "Oh! I'm going to turn you black and blue!" etc. etc.), and of course the ending was one of the greatest things to happen to Ninjago.
WORST: Season 2 - Rise of the Green Ninja At least, I think that's what the season is called. I know many of you are going to hate me for this rating, but it just wasn't as good. One of the producers admitted that the writers "didn't know what to do for the second season," and I can see that. The first few episodes were out of whack of what Ninjago should be. Ninjago is a series of connected events, and, well, you could ignore episodes 2 - 5 and you would miss out on hardly anything. Each episode of the first few episodes was a poorly written twenty-minutes shenanigan not related to the story. On top of that, each episode ended with the Ninja laughing, which seems dumb, but mostly just reminded me way too much of Lego Friends. Of course, there were still good moments. The humor was great, and - well, uh, what else? There was some interesting plot development - really just Lloyd becoming an adult and defeating the Overlord/Lord Garmadon. It just wasn't too good.
Oh, I forgot the pilots and Day of the Departed! Well, I might as well rank them as well.
EVEN WORSE: Day of the Departed I think this was just a way for Ninjago to change a couple things. People complained about Cole being a ghost, the "Temple of Airjitzu" set was inaccurate, and (supposedly) they didn't have enough time to make the next season. I think these are the only reasons Day of the Departed happened. They mended these plot-holes, but had to have the other ninja involved. Instead of thinking of a new type of army, they brought back old villains from previously seasons. Although these guys proved to be major threats, they were defeated in two minutes.That's pretty pathetic. While we're talking about lack of effort, they also just spiced up the original suit designs instead of creating new ones, and imitated an old vehicle. Remember how the pilots had this huge wave of sets? Well, this special had a small wave, with a couple sets from Skybound because there was nothing else to make sets out of. This special bothers me so much that I re-wrote it as a story on the original LMBs. I may or may not re-post it on LMBE, but I'm thinking of putting it on the Galleries, at least.
IT DOESN'T GET WORSE THAN THIS: Pilots Once again, there will be many people who strongly disagree with me. However, each character's personality was shaky, the "Underworld" thing was a bit dark, the plot-line was, forgive me for saying this, dumb, the skeletons didn't make sense (eat food, but don't have organs?), and only Michael Adamthwaite is allowed to play Jay. Looking at the long, detailed review I gave for DOTD, this is looking not as bad as DOTD, but I still think it was. It was just dull, with few good spots to look upon.
As stated earlier, these are just my opinions. Pleasure share what you think as well!
I started watching at the very beginning in January 2011
Season 2 - HIGH QUALITY - The Show was at a good point here, and had a lot of things established.
Season 1 - QUALITY - The first season was able to take the garbage that was the pilots and shape it into an engaging TV series.
Season 4 - QUALITY - This season was able to explore a lot of things in Ninjago we never would've even thought of.
Season 3 - PRETTY GOOD - I know this one gets a lot of hate, but the story was told pretty well for a very limiting 8 episodes.
Season 5 - PRETTY GOOD - The story of Morro and the threat of the cursed realm carries over well from Season 4 and for many it's their favorite season.
Season 6 - OKAY - This season was pretty interesting, but the ending ruined it for me.
Day of the Departed - MEH - It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible.
Pilot Episodes - GARBAGE - These first two episodes were incredibly cliché and really on interested many of us because we were too young to cringe at it
Season 7 - COMPLETE AND UTTER TRASH - Oh geez, if Day of the Departed was on the bottom of your list before, you won't like this season. It's pretty much everything bad about Day of the Departed x10. Thank goodness the Hageman Brothers are writing Season 8.
I started watching Ninjago at the pilot episodes in 2011. I started getting the sets in 2012, because none of the 2011 sets ever interested me, except a few spinners and Zane's dragon, which I have yet to get. (All my opinion)
Season 1: Rise of the Snakes- BEST This season is the most enjoyable to rewatch, had the best villains, the best vehicles, and the best story. The serpentine were made back when snake-themed villains were actually an original idea and not just a rehash, so they still hold up as the best Snakes to this day in my eyes. The stories with the green ninja, great devourerer, Garmadon, and true potentials were all equally interesting. Some of the only problems were that the multiple stories didn't always flow together well, and none of the serpentine generals were mentioned by name aside from Scales and Pythor. This causes people to forget their names to this day, which triggers me (probably more than it should).
Season 2: The Final Battle- 2nd best It is a common misconception that the first 5 episodes of this season are just filler. They actually aren't, as episodes 14, 15, 17, and 18 advance the story in different ways, even if they are small advances. Episode 16 is technically the only filler episode from season 2. I like this season because of the storyline that went with it. The serpentine didn't get proper closure in season 1, so it was cool to see them as the villain army for the first half of season 2. The problem with this, is that the stone army got much less screentime, despite being cool villains. I think if this season was longer it would've solved most of its problems, but the seasons were 13 episodes at the time, of course.
Season 4: The Tournament of Elements- 3rd best This season is a lot of fun. It has a great story, but of course the best part of that story was the flashback that connected the elemental masters to the serpentine war, fitting all the puzzle pieces together. Pretty much the only downside was that Zane and Cole didn't have their elemental powers for most of the season, but hey, that's just the way the story needed to go, and it definitely paid off with the awesome finale.
Season 3: Rebooted- The one in the middle (4th best/4th worst) This season had a great story, but not enough time to tell it. My favorite ninja was the main character, and the Overlord was finally defeated for good. Cool new villains were introduced, but the serpentine returned for a cameo as well, which I loved. Really the only downsides for this season are the way-too-short length and the forced romantic subplots that literally didn't make any sense.
Season 7: Hands of Time- 3rd worst (No spoilers here) This season was enjoyable, and, like season 4, had an epic backstory. However, it did have some big flaws, such as some oddly paced events and the way some vehicles and characters were represented. These vehicles and characters were cool, but not without problems. Commander Machia might be my least favorite villain in Ninjago. She was the kind of villain who's so bad (not in a good way) that you almost want her to just leave the show with no explanation after 1 episode. Her lack of personality and unrealistic perfection at everything made her a very annoying "character" (quotes intentional). The 3rd use of snake-themed villains makes me think that Ninjago is running out of ideas, but the vermillion were still pretty cool overall. The Time Twins were very cool, and the finale was great, but the season as a whole had some problems. HoT was a mixed bag for me, but I liked Rebooted more from a writer's perspective, so that's why this is my 3rd worst.
Season 5: Possession- 2nd worst Look, I like this season and it has a good story, but it was below HoT in quality IMO, now that I look back. The locations were underwhelming in this season, to say the least. Stiix is a very bland and boring city, and the other locations were nothing spectacular, aside from Cloud Kingdom. The realm-crossing bit was cool, and we finally got our Chima crossover (even if it was way too short), but it got me hyped for season 6, only to let me down. The cursed realm only appeared at the end, and its interior was shown very little before it was destroyed forever. This season had so much potential to take place within the cursed realm, but it failed to live up to that. Overall, the characters, vehicles, and story were good, but the main location of Stiix was very boring. The show also took on a darker and edgier tone in this season, which kinda went against Ninjago and LEGO. Lloyd was also possessed for most of the season, unfortunately (I thought it would be for about half the season, but it was dragged on too long). Possession was good, but doesn't hold up when compared to other seasons of Ninjago.
Season 6: Skybound- WORST When I learned the Ninja would be fighting sky pirates, I thought it would be an epic season of ship battles in the sky, with the Destiny's Bounty going up against other flying vessels in a huge conflict for Ninjago. Nope. Imagine a cringey "Jaya" fan fiction loosely based on the Skybound LEGO sets. Now imagine that it gets turned into a full season of Ninjago. Now you don't have to imagine anymore. Skybound was basically an entire season of fan service for the shippers (and not the good kind). And what about those of us who want to see fighting and epic sky battles in this, you know, Action and Adventure show? Nope, most of this season is taken up with shoved-in-your-face romance and boring scenes. The forced romantic stuff from Rebooted is amplified x10 in this one, literally taking over the story. Oh man, I miss the seasons 1-2 and seasons 4-5 days when the Jay and Nya couple was just a cute, funny subplot. In season 6, it seems more like a cliche drama/soap opera that fills the story. Like seasons 5 and 7 though, Skybound has many redeeming qualities, such as the pirate characters (particularly Clancee), action scenes (there starts being more action towards the end), ending (I guess I'm the only one who liked that end), and backstory expanding Ninjago's lore. Skybound is still enjoyable to watch, but compared to all the other seasons of Ninjago, it's my least favorite.
Again, just my opinion, of course. I didn't include the specials because they aren't technically seasons.

I agree with you on Hands of Time. It still remains, in my eyes, the worst season of Ninjago. However, I found DotD to be worse, and the pilots were...not really as bad as HoT, but still weak.

I honestly think rise of the snakes and rise of the green ninja were pretty good. (I think does were the ones I watched) I honestly think the worst was when the Ninjas fought terminator robots Nindroids
