A streak of plasma suddenly falls from the sky, as if something had suddenly lept from a rooftop, into the Coliseum.
Nobody was harmed by the falling plasma, thankfully. In fact, a keen eye would be able to tell that there was a great deal of precision involved in achieving that effect, or indeed, the lack of effect.

Nightime in the District of Fire. All is peaceful, I assume. A Matoran is staring up into the stars while pounding a special mask into existance. The mask is a standard Hau, but with a modification, that allows the user to breath in unforgiving climates. As the Matoran stares into the sky, he notices a star is falling. And falling. And falling. Suddenly, with a gasp, the Matoran realizes it is coming straight for his workshop. The Matoran grabs his mask and runs frantically, panicking. NEEEEEOW-CRAAASH! KA-BOO! The Matoran runs over to the crater that was his workshop. A Toa capsule lies amongst the rubble. The Matoran slides into the pit and examines the capsule. The lid is stuck. The Matoran hears life inside, stuggling, trying to escape. The Matoran beguns pulling on the lid. After several minutes, the capsule is opened. A heavily battered Toa crawls out, and collapses on the dirt. His breathing is heavy, strangled. The Matoran drags him out of the pit, not knowing what to do. The Toa's mask had come off. The Matoran picked it up, and realized it was cracked, straight down the middle. The Matoran dropped the two pieces, and glanced at the Toa. His breathing had slowed, but was still heavy. The Matoran glanced between the Toa and the mask he was forging. It wasn't completed, but it was close enough.
The Toa awoke, staring into the face of a Matoran. "Where...where am I?"
"You are in Ta-Metru." The Matoran replies. "As in... Metru-Nui?" The Toa asks. "Yes, Toa." "Then... I have done it." "Done what?" "I have traveled back in time! I am... home." "You are from the future?" "Of sorts. I was searching for my friend, Java Nuva, who had gone into an alternate future." "Sounds confusing." "Quite. Now, tel me, why does my voice sound the way it does?" "Your... mask... it broke. So I gave you a new one. It has a built in device that allows you to breath... I am afraid you cannot live for very long without it."" "...I see. You have saved my life, Matoran. I thank you." The Toa stands. He sees the damaged workshop. "Did I do that?" "Oh, it's no trouble, really. It was a rented space." "I see." "Tell me, Toa, what is your name?" "...I am Toa Takata, Master of Fire." Takata replies. "Matoran, where are the other Toa of my kind?" "I do not know." "Then it is time I learned."
And so Takata begins his journey, to find the Toa, to fight Makuta, and to achieve his destiny.

Okay, first of all:
1. When the Toa Mata fell from the sky, they didn't need specially modified breathing masks
2. Metru Nui is INSIDE of the Great Spirit Robot, and therefore, doesn't have a 'sky' so to speak that you can fall out of you can only go so high before you crash into the island's dome.
