One explosion loosened the hand’s grip, another sent her up into the air. Was it from that strange sword of hers? Hannah quickly commandeered a FlameForce mech, and a leprechaun did the same. As Hannah seemingly struggled to learn the controls, the leprechaun appeared to already know, proceeding to destroy a few more mechs. Flame threw Hannah’s mech to the ground, only to have that other mech attack him from behind.
Flame’s mech could only take so much of the attacks of the mech and C.H.D. lasers. It collapsed to the ground. Flame took a lemonade shooter and jumped out of the cockpit. He’d join the infantry if he had to.
Someone jumped on Flame’s back and grabbed his jaw, opening it to pour something inside his mouth. Fizzy lemonade! The person jumped off and began sprinting away, showing himself to be the C.H.D. general. Flame didn’t pursue, focusing on purging the evil liquid from his body.
Hannah brought her mech closer. “I’m allowing you now to have your army retreat. If you don’t, I will take you prisoner.”
“NEVER!”
“Never to which option?”
“BOTH!”
Flame ran to the nearest FlameForce tank. He was no use in the battle, stuck in a fit of coughing. As Flame entered, the sheep inside jumped out. Odd... Since this left no one to drive the tank, Flame went to the controls himself. Before he could touch anything, several hands took hold of him and dragged him back to the opening. The leprechauns threw him out.
Flame turned to the sheep who had jumped out. “YOU TRAITORS! HOW DARE YOU WORK WITH THOSE LEPRECHAUNS!”
“Evil, evil, evil in a cup!!” the sheep sang. The force of their operatic voices shattered their disguises, revealing them to be Sham’s green sheep. Associates of the green leprechauns, and fizzy lemonade’s strongest supporters.
“HOW MANY OTHER TRAITORS ARE THERE HERE?!”
Flame felt his hooves leave the ground. Hannah’s mech had taken hold of him, and she now fled the tennis court.
“DON’T JUST STAND THERE!” Flame yelled to his army.
They made an attempt to come to his aid, but were halted by the forces of the C.H.D. and leprechauns. Hannah didn’t stop until the battle was a safe distance away.
“Where are you taking me?” Flame asked.
“I dunno. I’d take you to the dungeon of my army, except... I don’t have an army after what you did.”
What Flame had done? What about what she did?!
Sham came up beside the mech. “You could have that pigeon army Wyn decided against.”
“A pigeon army actually exists?” Hannah asked.
A new voice provided the answer. “Indeed, we do exist! But nobody wants us...”
“I want you.”
“Really? Yay! We can set up a place to put that sheep you got there. What should it be like?”
“Just a fence surrounding an area of grass. Oh, and soak the grass in this...”
Flame couldn’t see up there very well, but could make out a pigeon flying away with a bottle in its talons.
“It’s fizzy lemonade, isn’t it?” Flame asked.
Hannah laughed.
“I WILL STARVE BEFORE I LET FIZZY LEMONADE TOUCH MY LIPS!!”
Hannah started walking her mech again, laughing more.

Chapter 7: Evil is the Machine
Violet studied her battle plans. While the green leprechauns were mostly the only threat, they were numerous and widespread. Battles were fought across multiple fronts, all of which had to be carefully balanced to ensure the leprechauns did not gain ground.
She would never say it to his face, but Violet no longer envied Flame’s position. He had a gift for managing this war and for making plans in the heat of battle. That and his ability to motivate the army made up somewhat for him being so disagreeable.
Someone knocked on the door. “Colonel Violet!”
“Come in.”
Violet didn’t recognize the sheep who stepped inside, but the pins on his vest showed him to be of relatively high rank.
“This better be important,” Violet said.
“A division of the green sheep wish to discuss an alliance.”
“The green sheep are the most vocal supporters of fizzy lemonade and the color green! How is this even worth considering?!”
“The leprechauns are making a machine so horrid even the green sheep fear it falling into the wrong hands.”
“What does this machine do?”
“Brainwashing.”
A machine with the ability to cause FlameForce to like fizzy lemonade. Stopping this was worth considering an alliance with even the green sheep.
“Where are we to meet?” Violet asked.
“They gave me coordinates for a neutral location within the swamp.”
“I will gather the commanders and meet with them.”

FlameForce’s commanding officers approached the coordinates in a lone tank. The tank division’s commander, Cactus, drove the vehicle, while the other sheep rode in the infantry bay. It didn’t offer much of a view, but from what Violet could see they did appear to be in a swamp.
The tank came to a stop. Violet waited for Cactus to announce their arrival before climbing out of the tank. Parked nearby was a green jeep. They were already here.
As the sheep of FlameForce approached, six green sheep exited the jeep and met them in the middle.
The green sheep in front spoke. “Colonel Violet. I am Major-General Hedgerow.”
Violet said nothing, stunned. Did he just utter a normal sentence?
“Our senior officers use normal speech,” Hedgerow explained. “But sing, sing, sing I can!”
“I was told you wished to discuss an alliance.”
“Yes. The leprechauns have begun work on a brainwashing machine. The whole army of the green sheep agrees that this is too much power for even the green leprechauns to possess.”
The sheep behind him sang, “Evil, evil, evil is the machine!”
“We know that we cannot destroy it alone,” Hedgerow said, “but my division is the only one willing to work with you to do so.”
“Why is that?” Violet asked.
“Mine is the only division which tolerates cloudy lemonade. We have no preference.”
Violet turned to face her sheep. “That’s one thing going for them. However, these are the green sheep, who—”
“Green isn’t bad,” Commander Emerald said. She had been born a lime sheep, but was dyed orange after the army was created.
Cactus nodded his agreement.
Violet continued, “The green sheep infiltrated our numbers, assisting in the capture of General Flame. They have been enemies from the beginning.”
“It is difficult to trust them. However, the alternative is brainwashing,” Colonel Silver said.
“We’re a strong army. Can’t we just destroy whatever they have of the machine ourselves? What benefit do these green sheep provide?”
“We have the leprechauns’ trust, and do not underestimate our music,” Hedgerow said.
Violet pondered the matter. The arguments against the alliance had been countered.
“This alliance will be only temporary, for the purpose of stopping the machine,” Violet said.
“Indeed,” Hedgerow replied.
“You’re lucky Flame isn’t here; he would not even consider this. Since he is absent, I accept.”
The green sheep returned to their jeep, singing, “Good, good, good is this alliance!”
The FlameForce sheep walked back to their tank.
“If we’re going to be working with green sheep, can we have our green colors back?” Cactus asked.
“That won’t go over well with Flame,” Violet said.
“He’s not here, though.”
Violet paused. “Fine.”
A basic attack plan could be created before finding the location of the machine, but they would need to learn that before figuring out the details. Violet would have some of Shadow’s spies search for it.

*** Finding the location turned out to be another matter where the green sheep were useful. A few days after forming the alliance, the battle was nearly at hand.
A nearby hill provided a good place to conceal the forces of FlameForce from the leprechaun base. The leprechauns knew this, so their defenses were concentrated on this side. Still, this was the best direction for the plan.
Hedgerow’s sheep moved past and toward the base. This began the timer. FlameForce would attack in two minutes. They were merely the distraction while the green sheep did the work inside the base.
Violet connected with Captain Sky on comm. “How close are your planes?”
“We’re almost there, a couple more minutes.”
“Just in time.”
Leading the planes would have been Commander Pete’s job were he not captured as well. His last communication indicated that he, too, was in HannahDash’s clutches.
Violet counted down the time in her head. One minute. Forty-five seconds. Thirty seconds. Fifteen seconds... Ten seconds... Five, four, three, two, one.
“CHAAAARGE!”
The army emerged from behind the hill. As the tanks began firing on the walls of the base, the mechs advanced ahead of them to engage the leprechaun ground troops. The LAF launched and fired on the tanks until the FlameForce planes arrived.
This continued for a few minutes until the leprechauns on the ground began retreating. Shouting about something, they returned to their base.
“Evil, evil, evil in a cup!!” several voices sang.
That was the signal. The tanks and mechs pulled back and stayed behind the hill while the planes remained to keep the LAF occupied.
They had lost quite a few mechs in that battle. Now all they could do was wait. Hopefully the green sheep would actually do their part, and make the sacrifice worth it.
A green van approached and joined them behind the hill.
A green sheep stepped out. “Destroyed, destroyed, destroyed is the machine!”
Another sheep exited the vehicle and opened the back door, revealing several tied-up leprechauns. “Captured, captured, captured are their scientists!”
The two sheep unloaded the prisoners onto the ground before driving away. FlameForce carried the leprechauns into tanks before leaving the area.
A message came through Violet’s comm. “Colonel Violet! This is Commander Shadow.”
“Have your spies learned something?”
“We found the General.”Okay, this is the last of the canon events, everything after this is part of an alternate timeline. Actually, this chapter's event was started in a quote chain that got interrupted by the Boards' closure, so while it's probably canon it never played out and I made most of it up.

Chapter 8: Rescue
Flame lay down on the grass, but not in sleep. He couldn’t sleep anymore. Grass right in front of his face taunted him. Perfectly good grass, tainted with fizzy lemonade. The evil liquid, used as the weapon of an evil woman.
Two pigeons stood on the fence currently. There was always at least one.
“I think he’s actually not gonna eat it,” one said.
“Hannah will be back and intervene soon enough,” the other replied.
“She wants this!” Flame growled. “The sight of grass before my eyes, the stench of fizzy lemonade in my nostrils. And she smiled! She laughed!”
“It is rather laughable, though tragic.”
“It’s not funny! If you had a shred of decency, you’d let me go!”
“You’re doing this to yourself.”
A different stench soon entered the air. Smoke.
The pigeons in this base began fluttering about. “FIRE!!”
This was another issue. Even if Flame could get past the fence, he lacked the strength to flee. This event revealed one big weakness of the pigeon army: their bases were built in trees, so they were susceptible to burning down. Not that it was the pigeons’ only weakness. They also had no vehicles. All they had were endless numbers.
Most of the pigeons busied themselves with attempting to extinguish the flames. They filled buckets with water and fizzy lemonade to pour on the fire, but it was clear their efforts wouldn’t be enough. A few pigeons weren’t helping, instead perching on the branches nearby.
“What should we do with him?”
“We can’t just leave him here. But we can’t let him escape, either. If we let him out, he’s too strong for us to stop.”
“He doesn’t look very strong anymore.”
Another shout rose from pigeons in the distance. “We’re under attack!”
The nearby pigeons left to deal with the threat. So this was a larger attack. That would explain how the fire started. Could it be... had Flame’s army come to rescue him?
The fire drew nearer, as did the sounds of battle. Something was pushing through the burning growth and coming closer. A FlameForce mech. It came close, but not close enough. It began going another direction.
Flame mustered what strength he had left to raise his voice. “I’M OVER HERE!!”
The mech stopped and turned his direction. It fired non-fizzy lemonade to quench the nearby flames. Once close enough to Flame, the mech took him in its hand and lifted him from the prison. The mech made its way out of the base, following the way it came.
After emerging, the mech took a path around the nearby battle. Hannah was here, making short work of mechs with her magical sword. This mech attempted to avoid that fate, but Hannah was coming closer. She could probably tell this was the one with Flame.
Other mechs blocked the way to keep Hannah from getting to him. This mech continued to run. As it left the battle behind it, the rest of the army began to follow. Soon the pigeon base was well behind them. Hannah must have given up.
Exhaustion began to overtake hunger. Flame felt his eyelids drooping. He was going to be alright. He could sleep now.

“Is he still alive?”
A hoof prodded Flame’s side.
“Flame?”
Flame opened his eyes to see his sister staring back down at him.
“What did Hannah do to you?” Tulip asked.
“The grass... it was soaked in fizzy lemonade!”
Tulip turned away. “General Flame needs food, ASAP!”
Violet was the next to arrive. “I guess I’ll have to give command back to you.”
“Once he’s recovered from almost starving,” Tulip said.
Violet didn’t seem very concerned, as expected.
“Have you found Commander Pete?” Flame asked.
“Not yet.”
“We can only assume Hannah did the same to him as she did to me. He better not have succumbed to temptation...”
“We will keep searching until we find him.”
“HannahDash will pay for putting me in there!”

Chapter 9: Alliance
Two more days went by without a sign of Commander Pete. At this point, FlameForce’s plan was just to tear down the pigeon bases one by one. The hard part about that would be finding the bases. They blended in so well with the surrounding forest. Once found, however, these bases would be easy to crush.
“Not only are we struggling to find their bases,” Shadow said, “but they may be finding ours.”
“How so?” Flame asked.
“One of my spies reported that she noticed a pigeon following her. Pigeons are so ordinary that they’re naturally good spies. And there’s no telling how many there are.”
“We cannot allow ourselves to be outclassed by an army of dumb birds!”
“If it makes you feel any better, they don’t seem particularly dumb.”
Flame gave no reply, instead leaving the room. It didn’t matter if the pigeons were dumb or not. Being outclassed by anyone was an issue. Especially now that both the leprechauns and the pigeons were enemies.
Flame’s communicator buzzed. Odd, why would anyone be using that while they were all in base? Flame pulled it out to see who was calling.
Commander Pete.
Either Pete had escaped or, more likely, Hannah was using the communicator. Flame wouldn’t assume who was on the other side.
“Speak,” Flame said.
“Hello, Flame.”
“HANNAH! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH COMMANDER PETE?!”
“Oh, he’s still alive. He’s here in the cell beside me.”
Pete’s voice came through. “General! This isn’t—”
“Quiet!” Hannah shouted.
“Did you call just to taunt me?” Flame asked.
“No, actually. I want to meet with you in battle, to end this once and for all. Just me and your army, at noon tomorrow, just north of the swamp at the bend in the river.”
“Just you?”
“What would I bring with me, some pigeons?”
“Precisely.”
Hannah paused. “Well, I’m not bringing pigeons. I expect to see you there.”
***
FlameForce made sure they arrived well before noon. They’d been waiting here for three hours already. Now it was past eleven o’clock, and Hannah still hadn’t shown.
“Have we heard anything from the other bases yet?” Violet asked.
“Still not a word. Maybe this isn’t a distraction,” Flame replied.
“I don’t like this. Something isn’t right. Why would Hannah wait until now to do this?”
“She’s no tactician. Poor strategy from her is no surprise. Perhaps she thinks that showing up at the agreed time is actually a good idea.”
A helicopter appeared in the sky. This was a typical vehicle of the leprechauns and green sheep, but this helicopter was not green or orange. It was black.
“Don’t attack yet,” Flame said. “It could be someone else passing by.”
That became less likely when it landed. Someone stepped out. That was Hannah, alright.
“FIRE!!”

The mechs and tanks emerged and began firing. The Naval Team’s vehicles in the river joined in. But despite being bombarded with non-fizzy lemonade and paintballs, Hannah did nothing to retaliate. She just stood there and took it. So far, she was right about there being no pigeons.
Flame stepped his mech closer. Hannah was holding a different weapon. Instead of a sword, she held some combination of an axe and a pickaxe. The fact that Hannah wasn’t doing anything made the situation somehow more infuriating.
Flame reached his mech’s hand down to take hold of her. Hannah jumped out of the way and—
And grew to stand as tall as his mech!
“What the brick?!” Flame exclaimed.
Hannah laughed. “I knew pretending to be HannahDash would bring you here. I am not HannahDash. I am HannahSmash, commander of the dark leprechauns!”
“Do you really expect me to believe that?”
“Hear me out. As you can see, I don’t have the Explodium Sword with me. I instead wield this new weapon I just obtained: the Growthium Mattock. I haven’t attacked your army because I wish to discuss an alliance.”
“Why should I agree to that?”
“HannahDash is the enemy of us both. Everyone is, for that matter. But there’s no reason for us to be fighting each other. Together we will be strong.”
“What about Commander Pete? Last I heard, he was with HannahDash, so how did you get his communicator? And why did you put him in a cell?”
“HannahDash did that. She led him to my base then pretended to be me, telling my leprechauns to imprison him. Now, I don’t wish for your commander to be captured, so I brought him with me to return him.” HannahSmash looked at the helicopter and motioned with her arm.
A door opened, and Pete exited and sprinted toward them. Flame took Pete in his mech’s hand and lifted him to the level of their heads.
“Don’t do it, Flame!” Pete said. “These dark leprechauns are bad news!”
“He still isn’t convinced I’m a different person,” HannahSmash said.
“That’s not the only issue!”
The dark leprechauns couldn’t be that bad. Pete looked to be fed, so that itself was something the dark leprechauns had over HannahDash.
“How about your beliefs on lemonade?” Flame asked.
“I drink flavored seltzer myself. Thus I do not drink fizzy lemonade, and you will not see any of my leprechauns drinking it,” HannahSmash answered.
“Good. Are you as angry at HannahDash as we are?”
“It’s impossible to be as angry as you, General.” HannahSmash grinned. “But I can assure you that our attacks against her will be just as fierce.”
“Then I accept your offer.”
Pete shook his head. He’d get over it soon enough. He’d only known these people from the inside of a prison cell. He, and the rest of FlameForce, would come to know them as allies.

Chapter 10: A Typical Battle
The pilot entered his squad’s barracks. Many looked to still be asleep, which wasn’t surprising considering the hour.
“EVERYBODY UP! Let’s move! We attack at dawn!”
After several voices of “Yes, sir,” the soldiers scrambled to ready themselves. This was the first they heard of there being a battle today. The pilot himself didn’t learn much sooner; he had been awakened in similar fashion.
The pilot left to receive a briefing on today’s battle. This was big. They were to attack a base of HannahDash’s pigeons which had just been found. It was one of their key bases, so HannahSmash and the dark leprechauns would be joining the battle.
The pilot met his squad in the hangar, and they entered their planes. Once in the air, he gave them a summary of what they were facing.
FlameForce’s alliance with the dark leprechauns changed the war. Never before had FlameForce fought with such a strong army alongside them. The other armies used to think them a joke. Not now. Most of their technology remained as before, the biggest difference being a new projectile: flaming coal blocks. These caused more damage. Damage which HannahDash deserved.
Before the alliance, the war felt just a little pointless. Now they had a purpose, a drive, to rid the world of HannahDash’s evils. They were reminded continually of these evils: her support of fizzy lemonade, her treatment of General Flame.
But despite that, something still felt wrong. Something about those dark leprechauns. Something about the aftermath of every battle. The pilot suspected that he wasn’t the only one who felt this way, but no one ever spoke of it. Perhaps this was why they were so frequently reminded of HannahDash’s evils.
She deserved this.
General Flame’s voice came through the comm. “This is the spot, soldiers! BURN IT TO THE GROUND!”

The barrage of flaming coal began. This patch of woods looked just like the woods they had been flying over to get here, but the pilot had been in enough battles to know that meant nothing. Blending in with the surrounding forest was the only method the pigeons had to keep their bases safe.
The pilot couldn’t see much from up here, but more of the chaos down below was revealed as the trees burned. The pigeons weren’t standing a chance. All three armies were here, and there was HannahDash—moving up toward the planes, toward the pilot!
The pilot and the others nearby tried to avoid her, but it was no use. Each plane she neared was brought down by an explosion or two. She reached the pilot’s plane, sending her sword through the cockpit glass and stabbing his controls. She glanced at him only a moment before moving on to the next plane.
With his controls gone, the pilot could only sit and watch where the plane ended up going. It was headed for the ground. His ejector seat used a separate control, so he was able to use that to descend safely to the ground. He stayed in the untouched part of the forest for now, not wanting to enter the dangerous battlefield.
Despite that his interaction with HannahDash lasted only a second, the look on her face said a lot. When the pilot first met Hannah, she didn’t seem to be taking the war seriously. She was ready to leave it and her army behind. Now they knew that she was avoiding her army because she had already betrayed them.
When the pilot looked into her eyes, he saw that she no longer considered this a joke. She saw this for what it was. War. One which she was losing.
The pilot dared to get a closer look at the battle. There wasn’t much left of the pigeon base. FlameForce was mainly using their non-fizzy lemonade blasters now, extinguishing the flames at the edge before a forest fire began. The dark leprechauns were finishing off the pigeons while HannahDash was locked in a duel with HannahSmash.
HannahSmash’s larger size meant that HannahDash’s explosions had less effect on her. HannahDash made the most of the agility her sword granted her, doing loops around HannahSmash and avoiding the massive mattock. HannahSmash, as she retaliated, looked like one swatting a fly.
HannahSmash finally managed to land a blow, sending HannahDash to the ground. It took her a second to get up, and when she did, she fled. Not that it was worth staying anyway. The battle was over.
The pilot ran closer so he could be seen and return to base with the others. It offered him a closer look at the aftermath of battle than ever before. No wonder HannahDash took the war more seriously now.
“Another crushing blow has been dealt to HannahDash this day!” HannahSmash yelled.
“This world will be purged of her evils!” General Flame added.
Looking on the battlefield, the pilot felt even more that something was wrong...

Chapter 11: Enemy Eliminated
“There is one foe we have put off facing for far too long,” the Dark Leprechaun-in-Chief said.
“No, there isn’t,” Flame replied. “We have fought HannahDash and her pigeons, we have fought the green leprechauns and the green sheep and even Shamrock a few times, we have fought the C.H.D. when they thought it a good idea to fight HannahDash at the same time as us. We even got into a skirmish with the HSDTSFCFTPs!”
“You’re forgetting the orange leprechauns.”
“They aren’t an enemy! They are enemies of the green leprechauns, and they helped us build this army at the start!”
“Did you think to ask about their lemonade preferences?”
“Why would I? The green leprechauns like fizzy.”
“So? The only difference between the two groups is their colors. And perhaps orange is the better color of the two, but—”
“It certainly is!”
“The orange leprechauns also like fizzy lemonade, General.”
“THIS WHOLE TIME?! AND I THOUGHT THEY WERE ONE OF THE FEW ALLIES WE HAD IN THIS WORLD!”
“The other factions all fall short.”
“THAT’S NOT JUST FALLING SHORT! THEY ARE ANOTHER WHO BETRAYED! THEY MUST BE PUNISHED!”
“As soon as you’re ready, we shall plan an attack.”
***
The orange leprechauns wouldn’t stand a chance. They wouldn’t see this coming. And even if they did, Flame had been to their main base enough times to know its weaknesses.
FlameForce approached the base. Not many dark leprechauns were with them, and the one who did were waiting inside the FlameForce tanks. The surprise attack would be more effective if it appeared that only FlameForce was coming.
The base looked like an ordinary house, but Flame knew better. The walls were surprisingly sturdy, and the base was heavily armed with orange paintball guns. Paintball guns which were quite ineffective since the FlameForce vehicles were already orange.
The army approached without raising their weapons, in an attempt to appear non-hostile. The orange leprechauns would probably realize something was up based on the size of the incoming army. But by the time they did, it would be too late.
“Come no further!” a voice said. “We know you now work for the dark leprechauns!”
“AND WE KNOW YOU LIKE FIZZY LEMONADE!” Flame yelled back.
FlameForce began the attack without another word. The flaming coal blocks burned away the exterior covering, making the base look like the fortress it really was. FlameForce prioritized the base’s weaponry. Orange leprechauns began pouring out the base, wielding paintball guns of their own.
“There’s an opening,” HannahSmash said through comm. “General, you and your commanders come meet the Chief and I inside.”
“Why? That isn’t part of the plan!”
“It’s part of the Chief’s plan. We wish to see the Orange Chief kneel in person.”

That was reason enough. Flame relayed the message to his colonels and commanders. “We’re going inside through that opening the ground troops are coming out of.”
“Our whole army?” Colonel Silver asked.
“No, just us.”
The mechs of the colonels and Commander Tulip made their way to the opening. Flame stopped his at Commander Cactus’s tank to bring him to the opening more quickly. HannahSmash left the tank she was in and used the power of her weapon to clear a path through the ground troops.
The door began to close, but too late. The three mechs that arrived first held it up while the others arrived. Flame and Cactus stepped inside. HannahSmash set the Dark Leprechaun-in-Chief down inside then decreased her size to enter herself. Two planes made a close approach, and Commanders Pete and Emerald jumped out before their planes crashed into the base. The mech pilots stepped inside, and the door was able to come down. This was everyone.
“Let’s take some of their extra paintball guns and move!” Flame said.
Flame himself didn’t grab a paintball gun. His hooves would suffice.
“I’ll tell you the plan before we do it so you aren’t surprised,” the Chief said. “The orange leprechauns are leprechauns just as we are. My thinking is, why destroy the orange leprechauns when we could have them join us?”
“Because they like fizzy lemonade! They need to be destroyed!”
“They will no longer drink fizzy lemonade, General. They will become dark leprechauns as we are. You will see.”
Flame led the way through the base’s corridors. Several orange leprechauns attacked them on their way, but all that did was delay. They soon arrived at the room where the Orange Leprechaun-in-Chief stayed. HannahSmash chopped down the door with her mattock.
They stepped inside the room. The Orange Chief was indeed here, cowering in the corner.
“You’ve allowed the dark leprechauns to twist your minds!” he said.
“They have been enlightened, and you also will be,” the Dark Chief replied. He stepped closer. “You just don’t understand. The dark leprechauns will rule all. You will join us in that. Your leprechauns and my leprechauns will become one.”
“I will never submit to you!”
The Dark Chief leaned closer. “Do you see? The darkness is inevitable. You will join us.”
They stood in silence for several seconds. Eventually, the Orange Chief’s face changed.
“We will join you. We are one,” he said.
“Very good.” The Dark Chief smiled. “We will inform the rest of your leprechauns, and the battle outside will cease. And you will no longer drink fizzy lemonade.”
Flame turned to his commanders. “We are victorious today!”
Most of them nodded approval. Pete was still uneasy about the dark leprechauns. And Tulip stared at Flame with an expression of horror.

Chapter 12: Defectors
Tulip watched the Orange Chief’s face change. Something came over his eyes. “We will join you. We are one.”
The Dark Chief looked quite pleased with himself. “Very good. We will inform the rest of your leprechauns, and the battle outside will cease. And you will no longer drink fizzy lemonade.”
Flame turned around. “We are victorious today!”
His eyes... they looked just like those of the Orange Leprechaun-in-Chief!
Flame set those hazy eyes on Tulip. “What’s wrong?”
Tulip couldn’t meet his gaze. “It’s... nothing, sir.”
The Dark Chief approached. “Your commander has doubts.” He looked at Tulip. “Do not fear the darkness.”
“No! Don’t talk to me!”
Tulip bolted from the room. Pete was the first to follow. Tulip could only hear the footsteps of the next, but she knew it was Flame. They would have to do more than simply run to escape him.
“Where are you two going?” Flame asked.
Tulip gave no reply. She wasn’t sure where she was going. She only knew that she needed to get away. Flame’s mind had indeed been twisted, and Tulip wasn’t about to let hers be as well.
She pointed her paintball gun backwards and fired at Flame, with little effect. She then chucked the gun itself at Flame’s face.
“OW! What do you think you’re doing?!”
What ended up delaying Flame the most were the orange leprechauns. Apparently these ones had not yet learned that they were to be loyal to the dark leprechauns now. When they saw that Flame was the pursuer, they targeted him. They weren’t able to stop him, but this allowed Tulip and Pete to pull ahead.
They entered the room from which they had come into this base and pressed the button to open the door. As soon as it was high enough, Tulip ran to her mech. She climbed inside and took Pete in its hand. Flame came into view. Tulip fired a blast of lemonade at him before turning and running.
It wasn’t long before Flame spoke in the comm. “TULIP! Get back here now!”
“I can’t do this anymore.”
Flame said nothing for a second. “Commander Tulip is capturing Commander Pete! Stop her!”
That message went to everyone. And everyone turned to pursue.

Tulip sent a message of her own. “Commander Pete is coming with me willingly. The dark leprechauns are more evil than HannahDash! We can no longer work with them, and I don’t get how any of you can either!”
“Commander Tulip has lost her mind!” Flame replied.
The army seemed to agree with Flame. As Tulip made her way to the treeline, the tanks and mechs chasing her fired all their weapons. The paintballs and lemonade did little, but a few flaming coal blocks hit. Tulip held Pete close to the mech’s body to shield him from the projectiles.
Entering the woods helped, but this wouldn’t be enough. The area would be crawling with mechs. And Tulip’s, being larger with pink accents, would stand out. She needed to leave her mech.
She lifted Pete up to the branches, then lowered the mech’s hand so it would be less clear where they went. Tulip opened the cockpit and stepped onto the mech’s shoulder. She jumped up, and Pete caught her and lifted her into the branches.
They jumped to another tree and stayed there, going toward the trunk where the branches were more sturdy. There they waited. They could hear mechs below them, but none found them. Eventually they left the region.
“Did you see the look in Flame’s eyes?” Tulip asked.
“No, that’s kinda hard to do when you’re running away from him.”
“Before that. When the Orange Chief was swayed, I saw a look in his eyes. Compelled into submission. Then Flame turned and I saw it in his eyes too.” Tulip felt herself beginning to cry. “Flame was always the one to lead the charge against evil. Now he serves it.”
Pete said nothing in reply, instead wrapping his arm around hers, the sheep’s form of a hug.
“You warned us about the dark leprechauns, and nobody listened,” Tulip said.
“If you were able to see their evils, maybe General Flame will too.”
“He’s too focused on hating HannahDash to see what he’s doing. He never would have supported this... I don’t know how I stood by so long. I guess I was also thinking about HannahDash.”
“Serving the lesser of two evils.”
“Are the dark leprechauns really the lesser, though? Is fizzy lemonade really so evil that liking it is worse than the evils of the dark leprechauns?”
“Don’t ask me. You’re the one who was there from the beginning. Why is fizzy lemonade evil?”
“HannahDash told us so.”
“If she did, then why did she betray that?”
“We always assumed she fell into temptation.”
“There’s only one way to find out for sure,” another voice said.
Tulip looked up and saw a pigeon watching them. “How’s that?” she asked.
“Talking to her about it. Maybe you misunderstood her. She always told us that lemonade preference means nothing.”
“Spoken like someone who doesn’t want to believe she’s doing wrong,” Pete said.
“The pigeon has a point, though,” Tulip said. “Can you take us to her?”
“I sure can,” the pigeon answered.
Pete shook his head. “Tulip, we can’t go to HannahDash!”
“Do you have any better ideas?”

The pigeon stopped. “She is close. I’ll tell Hannah of your arrival first.”
The pigeon continued into the trees. There did look to be a base up there, but it was hidden well. Tulip wouldn’t have noticed it if they hadn’t stopped here.
The pigeon soon returned. “I’ll show you where Hannah climbs in from.”
He led them to one of the trees. This one was smaller, so the branches were easier to reach. Tulip and Pete followed the pigeon up into the base, and stepped onto a platform made from woven branches. The pigeon flew to the end of the platform, a room also made of woven branches.
“These are the sheep,” the pigeon announced.
HannahDash peeked out. “These aren’t just any FlameForce sheep! These are two of their commanders!”
“Like I said before, from their conversation I heard, I don’t think they’re even in FlameForce anymore.”
“That’s right,” Tulip said.
Hannah motioned with her hand. “Alright then, come in.”
The pigeon left, and the sheep stepped inside. Hannah sat down and stared at them. Waiting for them to explain themselves.
“Why did you betray us and turn to fizzy lemonade?” Tulip asked.
“You’re the ones who betrayed me! First me, then you betrayed all that’s good!”
“You betrayed good when you turned to fizzy lemonade!”
“Lemonade isn’t good or evil. It’s just a matter of what you think tastes better.”
“You yourself told us that fizzy lemonade is evil.”
“When did I say that?”
“It was when Flame asked you what the liquid in your bottle was.”
“I never said fizzy lemonade was evil. What were my exact words?”
Tulip took a second to remember. “You said, ‘Some people say that non-fizzy lemonade is evil, but it’s not.’”
“I didn’t say fizzy lemonade is evil. Non-fizzy lemonade not being evil doesn’t make fizzy lemonade evil.”
Tulip and Pete said nothing, looking at each other. This whole time, they had been fighting for a meaningless cause...
Hannah filled the silence. “And you wonder why people think sheep are stupid!”
Tulip held her head low. “I’m sorry...”
There was nothing more to say. Hannah wasn’t wrong. It really was stupid.
Hannah’s expression softened. She stood and placed her hands on the sheep’s shoulders.
“HannahForce is reborn. You’re not much of an army, but neither were the Sixteen. This is a start.”
