I actually disagree with you here, they were meant to be.
*gasp* I'm surprised you disagree, but I respect your disagreement. I just always found it refreshing that they didn't fall in love in JP, in every other movie those two characters would end up kissing by the climax.
It is refreshing that they don't have a gratuitous kiss scene, but they were said to be a couple in the film.
Okay, but why not? If they'd had a little more chutzpah they could have gotten away with it.
That's a fair point. Idk about Con's suggestion of Ian Malcolm because he's always been the most against the dinosaurs, and thematically the Jurassic series tends to kill off those who disrespect nature. This is even more evident in the book where Hammond and Wu die, but Muldoon survives. It could've been interesting to see Owen or Claire get killed off, although they have a child now right? I can't remember but didn't they kidnap clone girl?

I feel like it was only very loosely (I can't remember but is it just when Grant and Malcolm are talking? I always assumed Grant said that they were together to protect Sattler from becoming the next "Ex-Mrs.-Malcom"), but I guess I need to rewatch the movie to make sure. Always looking for an excuse to see Jurassic Park again.
It's canon that they're platonic. There's literally an entire conversation in the book about their relationship status and Grant explicitly says he has no intention of pursuing anything.
In the book, yes, but in the first movie it's made clear that they're dating.

There is that, which Grant seems very matter-of-fact about. But there's also the scene at the dig site. They argue about kids in a way that seems like a point of contention in a relationship, i.e. Sattler wants to convince Grant that he would want to have kids someday. He also embraces/touches her in a very "more-than-friends" kinda way. It's subtle, which I appreciate, but I do think that scene establishes it pretty well.

Yeah, I do agree they kind of left it open. I just assumed they never actually were dating, but there definitely was some interest there.
