Each season covers a year. Then the next year the same characters, but better abilities. Then the cycle repeats.

Yeah, but fans don't seem to mind the show changing.
It's non-canon to the show, so I'm going to try to enjoy it. As long as Zane does something besides stand and smile.

At the very least: it will be a brilliant standalone movie, and will summarize the Ninjago universe to a lot of people who otherwise didn't care about Ninjago
And then they will watch the show and have an opposite reaction to people who think things changed a lot between them.

The new Power Rangers movie is out. Not a huge Power Rangers fan myself, but I will probably watch it since I get in free.
