The Man In the Bandana grabs Elijah roughly by the shoulder with his good hand and pulls him forward, meeting him face to face. "Look here newcomer!" He raises his other hand, now wrapped in bandages, and yells. "You've made a mess of my firing hand. Hey! I said look here!" He pulls on Elijah's collar to get his attention away from the Tavern door and shouts even louder.
Outside, the Injured Figure hastens toward the outskirts of the Fort, but the Man In the Bandana's constant yelling alerts the rest of his crew who immediately head for the Tavern. Brushing past the Injured Figure, they kick the Tavern door open and pull out their weapons. Their leader, the tallest of the bunch, rasps out a command. "Stay put and drop 'er weapons!" A frightened waiter tries to return his tray, but the Leader aims his rifle at him. "I said stay put!" How is it my fault, son? "You-you!" The Man In the Bandana's face grows red with fury until one of his compadres pushes him aside to face Elijah, coolly tipping his hat towards him.
"Forgive my friend here. Seems like the midday heat has finally got to his head." He slowly looks around the room and catches eye of the Waiter, who continues to shake violently in fear of being threated a second time. Giving him a sly smile, the Friend motions for him to come forward and reassuringly pats him on the shoulder. "Say, how bout' a round of drinks on me?"
***
Outside, the Injured Figure continues to dodge glances from passerbys. Keeping careful watch for any appearance of the Bandana Men, she begins to plan her escape from the Fort until her thoughts are interrupted by the quiet cry of frightened child. The noise came from a nearby general store —in the direction of the Tavern.

Hesitating for a moment, the Injured Figure attempts to ignore the crying child and proceed with her plan, but the noise drowned out any further thoughts of escape. Although the Fort buzzed with activity that day, her mind solely focused on that one frail sob. Giving in, she pursues the sound.
Upon entering the General Store, she is surprised to see that it had been left in disarray. Surrounded by a pool of broken glass was a young boy weeping profusely as he inspected his injured hands and knees. The creak of a floor board caused him to look up and he fell back in bewilderment at the sudden appearance of the Injured Figure.
Immediately returning her weapon to her holster, the Injured Figure raises her hands near her head as a sign of peace. Pulling a small box from her pocket, she shows him her medical kit and motions for him to come forward. Still frightened, the boy shakes his head in refusal.
In an attempt to ease his distrust, the Injured Figure approaches him slowly, kneeling down to his eye level. Extending her hand for a shake, the boy inches closes and finally accepts it. As she pulls her hand back, a bouquet of flowers appear in the boy's hand, seemingly from the Injured Figure's sleeve.
"May I help you out of there, son? Or are you content to sniff the roses on your little island here?"
His eyes glow with wonder, but soon turn into a look of confusion. Pondering for a few seconds, the child finally accepts her help and raises his hands toward her. Picking him up, the Injured Figure carries him to a safer spot and offers him a stale biscuit from her stash.
"I reckon no tornedos have hit in the last few days. Who did this too you?"
The boy points to torn piece of bandana hanging from the door.
Narrowing her eyes, the Injured Figure inquires further. "And where did they go?"
The child points outside—to the Tavern.

"Mighty fine of you to knock him over the head like that, should give 'em enough time to think about his choices in disturbing this peaceful little establishment. 'Twoud be nice to find a suitable replacement."

Is there a sheriff in this town? The Friend leans back in his chair, rubbing his chin. "Not in this town, but I suppose you'll be looking forward to becoming our new lawman, eh?" He turns to the patrons. "What do you think? Shall he be our new sheriff, huh?" The rest of his gang glare at the crowd who respond with murmurs of agreement.
Slapping his knee, the Friend looks back at Elijah and laughs. "Then it's settled." He raises a glass and shouts triumphantly, "Cheers for the new sheriff!"

He raises a glass and shouts triumphantly, "Cheers for the new sheriff!" *Eli raises his glass.* The whole saloon gets a round of drinks on me! Closing her pocket watch, the Injured Figure returned it to its place before leaning on the side of the Tavern doorframe—a playing card in one hand and the other hiding a weapon.
While the Man in The Bandana is laughing with Eli over a joke, the Injured Figure quietly strolls up behind him and steals his hat. Sensing this, he turns around to find her holding it upside-down.
"What in tarnation are you doing?" He says while readying his weapon. The Injured Figure merely waves it off and motions for him to look into the hat.
"Do you think I'm a fool? They're ain't nothing in there, so give it back!"
The Injured Figure waves her hand over the hat three times before seemingly pulling out a bouquet of flowers out of it. This stuns the Man in The Bandana, who excitedly exclaims, "Are those real?"
The Injured Figure motions for him to come closer to see for himself. Leaning over, the Man in The Bandana sniffs the flowers, but immediately begins to scream in terror. "My eyes! Argh, they burn!"
Furiously rubbing his eyes to relieve himself of the pain, the Man in The Bandana begins to hop back and forth around the Tavern before falling over a chair and into a piano. A few of the patrons begin to laugh.
The Friend mutters under his breath while he watches his comrade make a fool out of himself. He soon notices the Injured Figure heading for the door and nudges Eli. "Aren't you going to do something? That stranger has disturbed the peace!"

The Injured Figure keeps walking without a word. She heads for the building in front of her. *Follows her.* Upon entering the General Store, The Injured Figure motions for Elijah to view the destruction. Leaning on the side of the wall, still holding her playing card, she breaks her silence. "You can come out, it's me."
The young boy from earlier emerges from his hiding spot behind an upturned chair. He stares at Elijah in bewilderment, but The Injured Figure is quick to reassure him. "Our new Sheriff." Looking at Elijah, she twirls her playing card once before standing upright. "Say Sheriff, what will you do about the robbers around here. Quite a nuisance indeed." She pulls from her pocket a torn bandana, the same worn by the Bandana Men.Meanwhile, The Friend strokes his chin as he watched Elijah enter the General Store. Leaning to the Man In the Bandana, he expresses his distaste in a low voice, "Look's like our new Sheriff will need some backup." He leaves his seat and waves his hand for the rest of his crew to follow him.

Back at the General Store, the Injured Figure shakes her head at the Elijah's comment. "If you'd truly wish to do justice to your badge, then might I suggest a change of posse?" Without warning she pulls out her weapon and aims it toward his head.
Standing behind the Sheriff was The Friend, along with the remaining Bandana Men.
*The Sheriff knows he's in danger.* We can negotiate. The Friend quickly comes to Elijah's defense. "Sheriff, we thought you'd be needing help in arresting this crook, and I'm mighty glad we did." He aims his weapon at the Injured Figure's head, and following his example the rest of the Bandana Men followed suit.
The Injured Figure merely smirks. "Watch your back—Lawman." Performing a sleight of hand, she purposefully drops a small object onto the ground that immediately crackles to mimic the sound of weapon fire. Filling up the room with thick smoke, the Bandana Men frantically duck and one of the members loudly shouts. "It's an ambush! We're surrounded!"
Pulling a second weapon from her back, the Injured Figure moves quickly and takes the frightened child from his hiding spot to a door in the back of the General Store. Being the first to notice he had been fooled, the Friend begins firing in that direction. He hollers to his men, but the chaos of the scene mixed with the loud crackling prevents him from being heard.
He grabs Elijah out of the way of random weapon-fire from one of his men, and leaves him behind a shelf. Catching his breath, he looks to the Sheriff for guidance. "The culprit is fleeing through the back door, we can't delay any further."
