Now imagine an elephant with tons of heavy armour on it They also appear to have quite stubby legs, so that height advantage isn't much
Wasn't Hannibal in heavy armor? And the fact remains that we never see a troll move more slowly have a speedy human walk.
As far as I can tell they weren't for several reasons. There aren't really many true trolls in the books that I recall, unless the Olag-Hai count, which I don;t think they should because based in RotK they are short enough for a hobbit to reach their armpit. Or am I remmebering that wrong?

Olog-hai I know aren't true Trolls. Tolkien at least implied that they were a half-breed of Troll and Orc, making them smarter and more agile, but not as strong.
Anyways, given the average Troll's stature, I don't think the armor will make that much of a difference. If these Trolls were pushing fifteen story siege towers, that would, but I don't think just the armor is enough.
No, because that HArmored Trolls are fairly resistant to javelins, and you still have no counter to the Ranged Cavalry argument. The fact that they don't move in sunlight is a pretty good indicator. OK, their were theoritically weeks between that time. Due to the fact I wasn't building, you would have stopped sending scouts out. Why were they camped that way? Camped able to attack at a moment's notice, maybe. But it is impossible to keep a camp for weeks with it able to be packed up at a moments notice. You can't even do that for a day, because of the cook's supplies. Because I have cavalry myself. If cavalry "threatens the lives of my orcs" or whatever, the same would happen to you. You wouldn't have caught up to me in the first place, so those preloaded crossbows wouldn't come in to effect, especially not against Trolls.
I think his point here is that if the orcs are going very fast they will leave the trolls behind because trolls are slow.
...or something like that
Thats not quite right. If the trolls engage with the cav and if the orcs leave they will leave behind their trolls.
But then you would loose your trolls. Not because they where smashed by the archers. And could you please give me one good piece of tolkien that says that orcs are nocturnal? If I remember I was in battle order in a battle, and if this was real life I would wonder why you weren't attacking and would have sent out scouts to see, which would have alerted me to your movement so then I could send my cavalry to attack you the moment you left your fort. And my troops weren't camped so they could march almost on a moments notice. Which they did. Why would my troops be in a formation? They are chasing you, they would be in a quick marching order but nor in a formation. You forget that it takes time to fire bows. Normally Bows where not carried pre-slung, and you would have to string the bows. Which takes time, as does gettinga large number of people to do anythings and with as unorganized as the orcs it would take longer. Giving my army plenty of time to fire a volley of preloaded crossbows. If this is going to get this picky I would like to summon the great and mighty KitKat

Javelins maybe but not crossbows and charging knights. They don't move in sunlight, but there is things called clouds that can block sunlight. Actually I believe we were in battle time, which would mean that there was only a few hours. Though I not that you haven't sent out one single unit to harass my troops. Besides you are forgeting the several thousand breelanders here.

What breelanders are harassing me? And crossbows are still not getting through troll armor AND troll skin. Charging Knights, maybe, but I'll note that you haven't actually SAID that you sent your cavalry out in front, you just said you COULD. Therefore, I'm long gone. please stop arguing this, KK is on my side. And we weren't in battle time, you waited several days before and after your first move, a preparation move if anything. We weren't in battle time yet. OH, and as for cloud cover, yes that's why we see them occasionally in the day. But clouds are 1. moving objects, meaning that it will be rare the orcs can move as daylight dwellers and 2. typically mean rain, which means that what time they can move, they'll be moving in the worst weather conditions they can. Oh, and the fact that Aragorn says "we have until Nightfall" after leaving Moria also implies that they typically sleep in the daytime, and the Fellowship just woke them up at that time.

I'm going to point out now that clouds do not mean rain, and I think my lifeguarding job makes me more than qualified to point that out.
However, I would ultimately say that 8L is in close pursuit of you, and leave it at that. Not so close that you two could engage, but if you get stalled by any outside factor he'll catch you.

I've been looking at EE's notes and apparently he sent a force of Breelanders here to intercept the Orcs. I'd like to make a very retrospective move and use those to ambush or engage your force. Is that Ok or will you be not happy and not like my very old move?

OH! you're talking about the breelanders he sent to engage my force "going to Bree". He lined them up so I'd engage them going to Bree, not realizing I was heading to Rivendell. So sorry, they're not in a position to ambush my merry little Force.

So unless MLB actually has a force here available to stop me, both me and 8Legos are at Rivendell. Awesome.

Ignoring MLB's forces, yes. You're at Rivendell, trapped between a rock and a hard place.
With MLB's forces, I believe he can intercept you. Traditionally, any army sitting in a region before another army arrives can intercept the passing army (given nothing unusual happens). So unless it can be shown that MLB's army is for sure situated in a place where he couldn't intercept you, you'll have to deal with him.

Actually, I just trapped Rivendell and Bree forces between Rocks and a hard place And then I'll take care of Dale units as an afterthought.
He's actually arguing that a force that entered roughly the same time from the opposite end of the region can intercept me. Oh, and the fact that they chose instead to spread out on the borders headed towards Bree.

So it sounds like you've a rock stuck between a hammer and an anvil and a hammer stuck between a rock and a hard place.
If he's in the opposite side of the region, then he can definitely intercept you as you're going straight for each other. Unless, of course, they are specifically stated to be on the wrong border, in which case you've got more arguing coming.

And that Hammer was never expected to survive. Because if I destroy Rivendells siege engines and mammoths (which I can now do), then they'll have nothing to counter my tanks and siege engines, meaning I'll eventually take the region. They are specifically stated to spread out near the wrong border.
