Yes, we get paid an adult wage at 21, ironic considering I can legally do everything else at 18. Your wage increases each birthday. You can almost hire maybe three 15 year olds for less than two 20 year olds. So they usually put the kids on part-time contracts for after school/during if they dropped out. I'm only casual, so I'm not guaranteed any shifts and I cost even more with casual loading. Starting to think we should go China's route and make it illegal for under 18's to work. Youth unemployment is an epidemic, something needs to be done.
In the USA it's illegal to drop out of school and work until after you're 18! All Australia would need to do to fix this is make minimum wage the same for everybody. It seems like a pretty obvious solution to me:S.
I don't like that idea. Means they'll drop the adult wage to line with the youth wage. At the moment, my minimum wage is more than most places. Just bar kids from working until graduation. They should be out volunteering, playing sports, studying, finding out what they like and what they want to be.
We have rules against kids dropping out of secondary school, but the government doesn't bother to enforce it. You can leave after year 10 (15 years old) so long as you have a full-time job/apprenticeship. People still leave before and without a job and nothing happens to them. They struggle to find work because they have absolutely nothing to their name.
There are 1.8 million under/unemployed people in Australia and less than 200,000 jobs available each month. There just isn't enough jobs. Limiting the market to over 18s will help those in desperate need of a job. Only then can we work on "creating jobs".

Personally I'm fine with that. Everybody should get paid the same for the same job. And kids need jobs to pay for college and leisure activities.

Only it isn't the same job. The teenies at my work are lazy, emotional and don't show up half of the time. Australia is vastly different from the USA. Almost everyone is entitled to a HECS loan. You don't need a job to pay for university upfront. The government will pay, you just repay them the same amount (no interest) when you earn enough to do so. University leisure activities can be added to you HECS loan as well. Most people finish secondary school at 17/18 anyway. You'd only have a few months of university life without the right to work.
I don't think it'd cause problems in Australia. It wouldn't work in the USA though.
*Over flourishes wand* STUPEFY! *Wand flies out of my hand* Ouch!
Yeah, I think we need some help:P. Professor?
I honestly don't know what you're doing wrong. Maybe you're too over-excited and your wands are getting jumpy. Try focusing more on the spell itself and not doing so much foolish wand-waving. The motion is just as simple as pointing.

Let me try again. *points wand at Hugh* STUPEFY! *nothing* I'm hopeless:(.

In a good way or a bad way? We're quite socialist, though no where near radical. Most, if not all Commonwealth members are the same. I know Britain and New Zealand are.
Pretty sure we were founded as a social democracy. We've since moved towards a liberal democracy. University used to be free in the 70's, i.e. paid for by the taxpayer (everyone who spends a cent) as most things still are.

Okay *Tries not to get excited* *Is so focused on not being excited, points wand at the chandelier rather than Dig* STUPEFY! *Watches as it crashes to the floor.* Sorry. We're absolutely dreadful.

No offense, but bad way. IDK, it just seems like your economy is horrible right now if you can't find ANY jobs. And it also is confusing why older people get paid more for the same work. All I know is that in the USA we have TONS of jobs all the time in most fields!
